Chapter 579: Chapter 348: I’ll Get Better Once I’ve Had Enough Rest [Part 2]

Glaring coldly at him, Crystal Hughes asked irritably, "So can you leave now?"

"Give me an answer."

"I’ve given you the answer, but you don’t believe it." Crystal took a breath, steadying herself to stand firm, and asked word by word, "Clinging to it, just to get the answer you want, does it make sense?"

"..."

Camilo Nogueira looked at her with a slightly furrowed brow.

She was sweating, the sweat was cold, the temperature of her wrist was gradually cooling, strands of her hair clung to her forehead, her face was pale, yet her gaze was bright, and it seemed like all her strength was bursting from her eyes.

Mysteriously, she had a certain allure.

Yet, her whole body was light and trembling slightly, on the verge of collapse.

Such a fragile and pitiable sight easily broke Camilo Nogueira’s rational control.

He kissed her.

She struggled, but her feeble resistance was no match for him.

Not until he saw the tears shimmering in her eyes did he suddenly come to his senses, stunned, releasing her from his grip.

"Get out!"

She pushed him, uttering two words, and tears dropped down.

He paused, instinctively brushing away the tears at the corner of her eye, only to be pushed away again.

Her lips were slightly red, and she broke free from him, retreating a few steps to distance herself, fully alert and guarded.

Realizing his inappropriate behavior, Camilo Nogueira looked at her with a few stunned glances, furrowing his brow, "Sorry."

He put the Band-Aids into her hand.

Then, his gaze swept over the two fingers of her right hand, pausing slightly.

The wounds that had stopped bleeding were once again seeping blood after that struggle.

Crystal Hughes held the two Band-Aids but stepped back half a pace, clearly showing resistance and caution in her every action.

Tears still wet in her eyes, she wiped them with her sleeve, then with reddened eyes and weak breaths, she asked him one word at a time, "Can you leave now?"

Camilo Nogueira stood quietly for a moment.

In the end, he didn’t say anything more, nor did he make any further moves, turning around to leave.

The door closed with a ’click’.

The tension left Crystal Hughes in a sudden breath of relief, but all her strength disappeared with it; she stood dazed for a few seconds before falling back onto the sofa.

The injured fingers were still bleeding, gathering into a drop at the tip, then falling.

She left it alone.

Breathing lightly, but without anger, frustration, or worry... all emotions were hollow.

The sense of powerlessness spreading through her body left her unwilling to move even a finger, just staring blankly ahead.

She gazed at the floor-to-ceiling window leading to the balcony.

It was a bit dirty.

Since the day she came back, she had wanted to wipe it clean, but it had been days, she watched it every day, thought it dirty every day, yet never took any action.

She looked at the two pots of Devil’s Ivy on the balcony.

Some leaves had withered yellow, the water had dried up too.

She always meant to cut off the dead leaves and add some water, but never did.

She saw the workbook on the coffee table, Andrew Hughes’ handwriting was childish, but each word was written neatly.

A couple of days ago was the weekend, Andrew Hughes had a break.

For a long time, she had been thinking of taking a weekend to spend some quality time with Andrew Hughes, treat him well, play with him when free, teach him to do problems, cook for him...

...

These days, she felt dead, doing nothing at all.

Her time seemed frozen, unable to move forward even a step.

"Mom?"

A tender voice rang out, suddenly drawing Crystal Hughes’ attention.

She turned slowly and saw Andrew Hughes standing at the doorway of the master bedroom, looking worried and tense, so her dull eyes gradually regained some focus.

Andrew Hughes came over, full of concern, "What’s wrong?"

With her face all wet, Crystal Hughes wiped it with her hand and realized that at some point, tears had been streaming down her face.

Quickly pulling out a couple of tissues, she wiped her face roughly, looking at Andrew Hughes who was now in front of her, slight laughter breaking through the tear stains as she lifted her injured hand. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Mom’s fine," she smiled, though her tears hadn’t dried, "just hurt my hand, it hurts."

Andrew Hughes didn’t say a word, looking up, he watched Crystal Hughes for a while.

In a trance, for a moment, Crystal Hughes almost thought it was Camilo Nogueira watching her.

A few moments later, Andrew Hughes still said nothing, he just took her other hand, retrieved the Band-Aids from her palm, tore open the packaging, and took them out.

Then, extracting a tissue, gently wiped the blood off Crystal Hughes’ fingers.

After wiping the blood clean, he opened the Band-Aid and placed it over Crystal Hughes’ wound.
