Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 109: Not Quite Like Before
Ryan Ford said unflinchingly, "You knew this about me when you met me. I’m just like this, but I can tell you clearly, in my heart, there’s only been you."
"That’s not necessarily true." Scarlett Shaw looked at him, smirking mockingly, "Your heart is like a durian, there might be different women standing on every spike. Don’t pretend to be all profound and affectionate with me."
At this, Ryan paused, giving her an unexpected glance.
Scarlett stepped back cautiously.
Ryan: "You’re not like you used to be."
Scarlett: "People change."
Ryan: "I’m really curious, what exactly did Aaron Carson do to influence you so much?"
Scarlett: "He doesn’t have to do anything, my liking him is enough."
Ryan’s expression turned cold, watching her solemnly.
Scarlett’s gaze was firm, without a trace of lying or wanting to escape under Ryan’s aggressive stare.
In fact, she could clearly see her own heart. When she said this, Ryan Ford flashed through her mind.
"I had barely broken up with you for a day when you slept with Aaron Carson. Now, six months later, you’re telling me you adore him. Scarlett, are you really that casual, you’re really like——"
Ryan’s eyes were dark with anger, like a volcano ready to erupt.
Scarlett: "Like what?"
"Nothing."
Ryan’s jawline tightened, looking into her eyes, under the night sky, there was an indescribable depth.
"I’m not giving up on pursuing you." Ryan issued a harsh warning, "If you really like Aaron Carson and can’t bear to break up with him, don’t blame me for using any means necessary."
"Isn’t The Fords’ Second Son too confident? If you want to confront me, be my guest."
Aaron Carson appeared next to Scarlett at some point, smiling, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes, carrying a warning and determination.
Of course, Aaron’s determination was all an act.
He was on a mission, and he had to perform at Oscar level.
Ryan squinted his eyes.
"You haven’t forgotten President Ford’s words from a few days ago, have you? I’m a professional assistant, so regarding today’s matter——"
Aaron paused, smiling smugly:
"Rest assured, I will report every word to President Ford."
"You’re daring to use my brother against me. Aaron, we’ll see about this."
Ryan sneered, extinguished the cigarette in his hand, tossed it on the ground, and turned to leave.
"Wait." Scarlett called out to him.
Ryan turned back.
Scarlett: "Pick up the cigarette butt and protect the environment."
Ryan: "..."
Aaron suppressed a laugh, "..."
After speaking, Scarlett couldn’t be bothered to see the expression on Ryan’s face, she just turned to Aaron and said, "Let’s go."
When they were far enough away from Ryan, Scarlett stopped and said.
"Rhonda, thanks."
Aaron raised an eyebrow, "No need to thank me so early, when The Fords’ Second Son really comes to trouble me, I’ll naturally protect myself and stand by silently."
"..."
Aaron’s honest words were reasonable enough.
But his animated expression while speaking was irritating, making Scarlett’s teeth itch, she couldn’t help but try to drag him in:
"Rhonda, haven’t you ever heard the saying, ’If you’re going to help someone, see it through to the end’?"
Aaron stood firm, "I’ve also heard of the story of the Calabash Brothers saving their grandfather, it was—go there and save, save there and leave."
Scarlett: "..."
Why is it recently when talking to her that this guy seems so much more confident?
Scarlett stared at Aaron for two seconds before asking, "Before you went to Bryland last time, I remember you asked me to visit your place over the weekend. How come after you got back, I never heard from you?"
"..."
How would he dare to have any news?
He had been caught red-handed by Julian Ford, and bringing her home again would definitely turn the fake show into a real disaster.
But now, he couldn’t directly tell Scarlett that their relationship in front of Julian Ford was already as exposed as if they were streaking, who knows what plans President Ford has.
Aaron coughed a couple of times, cleared his throat, and while signaling for Scarlett to get in the car, he changed the subject:
"For today, don’t thank me. On the day The Fords’ Second Son joined, President Ford specifically told him not to trouble you, and to be on the safe side, he ordered me to keep an eye on Ryan. I’ve done nothing a proper assistant should these days, just becoming your personal hidden camera."
Scarlett paused as she was getting into the car, looked up at him, "Julian Ford?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Aaron scoffed, "Who else do you think I’d actually help you for and offend The Fords’ Second Son?"
Speaking of which, Aaron felt aggrieved.
After all, he’s an elite with exceptional ability.
He’s doing this spy work every day, with nowhere to use his skills, it’s natural to harbor resentment.
Aaron drove the car with a full heart of resentment, and as for the person in the passenger seat, she remained oblivious and continued to question, "Why did Julian Ford ask you to do this?"
Aaron glanced at her, "When a leader gives you a task, do you still ask why? Don’t want to do your job?"
Scarlett replied earnestly, "That’s not right, by proactively asking for the reason, you’re aligning yourself with the leader, which is more conducive to understanding the core leadership thought and doing your job correctly, you know."
"..."
Aaron’s mouth twitched, "Do you investment people not ponder financial data every day but instead think about this?"
Scarlett: "Rhonda, are we comrades in arms or not, fighting side by side?"
Aaron said nothing, instead turning on the music.
The melody was grand, yet mournful.
"What song is this?" Scarlett asked curiously, humming along, "Sounds pretty good."
Aaron: "Anthem of Betrayal."
Scarlett: "..."
Unconsciously, the car had already arrived at Scarlett’s apartment building. Aaron, glancing out the window casually, paused slightly, then turned to Scarlett and said, "If you want to know why, you’d better ask President Ford yourself."
Scarlett: "Hmm?"
Aaron: "Better hurry and get out."
Aaron, driving as if in a rush to be reborn, ushered Scarlett out of the car and drove off.
The Anthem of Betrayal was still playing in Scarlett’s mind. When she looked up, in the scattered light from street lamps under the shimmering moonlight, there was a tall, slender figure standing by a black sedan not far away.
In the cold, dim light, Julian Ford’s already aloof face appeared even more stern and deep.
Scarlett was momentarily stunned.
But her steps didn’t falter, instead quickening until she stopped in front of Julian Ford, her amber eyes reflecting the moonlight as she raised her gaze to meet his.
"President Ford."
Her face tilted slightly upward, and the intermingling streetlamp light and moonlight cast down into her eyes, appearing as if stars had fallen within them, bright but not harsh.
"Aaron said it was you who specifically instructed him to watch over Ryan Ford, not letting him trouble me, is that right?"
"Yes."
Julian Ford didn’t deny it, and Scarlett’s eyes brightened even more, only for the man to continue in a cold indifferent tone, "Ryan causing trouble at the company would be problematic."
The implication being, it has nothing to do with her.
Scarlett wasn’t surprised by Julian Ford’s response. Honestly, considering this person didn’t directly tell her not to be self-deluded, saying he can’t be bothered with someone like her, was practically an act of kindness.
