Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 108: Pretty Pointless
Aaron Carson stayed calm on the surface, but inside he was both surprised and delighted.
To be honest, when Ryan Ford’s words came out just now, even though there was some misunderstanding, it was enough for him to ’die’ in front of Julian Ford.
Yet, not only did he not end up ’dying,’ the boss seemed not the least bit angry and even instructed him to ensure Scarlett Shaw wasn’t troubled. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
It was clear that Scarlett Shaw’s importance in the boss’s mind had undergone a subtle change.
Ryan Ford’s appointment documents came out quickly and were publicly announced internally at Veridian that afternoon. Scarlett Shaw felt quite worried that Ryan would cause trouble, but a week passed, and apart from occasional encounters in public areas like elevators and hallways, Ryan Ford was indeed behaving, not uttering a single inappropriate word.
However, while Ryan Ford didn’t make trouble, Chloe Grant increasingly found Scarlett Shaw displeasing.
Others merely assumed Ryan Ford was placed by the Ford family.
But how could she not know that Ryan Ford intended to win Scarlett Shaw back?
The frustration and unwillingness were suffocating Chloe Grant, making her unable to breathe as she tried everything to break Ryan and Scarlett up, yet Scarlett Shaw had to do nothing to make Ryan change his mind.
Was she really that fond of Ryan Ford?
Not really.
But when someone she disliked was living comfortably, it felt as sickening as swallowing a fly.
Scarlett Shaw only realized, hindsight, that her previous travel expenses to and fro Bryland were still pending when Skyler Miller remarked that reimbursements finally came through.
The commission from the collaboration with Roman Lawson had a long company approval process and would probably take half a year to come through.
With the New Year approaching, she planned to use those reimbursement funds to buy something for her grandmother once they arrived.
Seeing the Spring Festival holiday approaching in a week, Scarlett Shaw felt compelled to check the progress during the busiest time for finances.
"Your form is with Chloe Grant," a finance colleague said.
Chloe Grant was reconciling accounts receivable.
Scarlett Shaw approached, and before she could speak, Chloe Grant said coldly, without lifting her head, "I’m too busy now."
Scarlett Shaw patiently asked, "When will you have time then?"
"Can’t you see I’m busy? With so many year-end payments coming in and going out, the company isn’t just opened for you. I hardly have time to look at your little reimbursement!"
Chloe Grant’s voice was cold; she didn’t speak loudly, but her tone conveyed impatience, painting Scarlett as someone immature and penny-pinching over trivial gains.
Several colleagues in the Finance Department glanced over at them.
But none spoke since everyone was genuinely busy, hoping to get everything done quickly and start their holidays early.
Reimbursements, lacking KPI requirements and cumbersome, were usually delayed unless specifically noted by higher-ups, often pushed to post-holiday periods when things were less hectic.
Scarlett Shaw wasn’t in a particular hurry for the money.
But the issue was that her colleagues, who submitted reimbursements at the same time or even after her, already got their expenses cleared.
Yet hers was still with Chloe Grant.
If she couldn’t see Chloe was deliberately stalling her process, she’d truly be an idiot.
Considering not to bother other colleagues, Scarlett Shaw didn’t continue arguing with Chloe Grant and turned away.
It wasn’t until evening, when Chloe was getting ready to leave work, that Scarlett stopped her, "Now, do you have time to look at my form?"
Chloe Grant frowned, "I have personal matters. Let’s talk tomorrow."
"Chloe Grant."
Scarlett Shaw calmly blocked her.
"If you were truly busy, I wouldn’t press you like this. But my reimbursement form has already gone through all the platform processes, and the receipts I submitted were attached according to company requirements. All my colleagues, whether submitting at the same time or later, have had their costs reimbursed, except for mine. Regardless of whether you intentionally did this, it’s negligence."
Chloe Grant: "I told you, I’d look at it tomorrow."
Scarlett Shaw: "Then tomorrow you’ll have another excuse and drag it to the day after tomorrow, is that it?"
Chloe Grant: "Scarlett Shaw, you—"
"Look at it now."
Scarlett Shaw couldn’t be bothered to say more, standing directly in front of Chloe Grant’s desk. She glanced around and saw her reimbursement form tossed aside.
Scarlett reached over, picked it up, and handed it to Chloe, "Accountant Grant, see any issues here?"
Chloe Grant looked displeased, but after flipping through the form, couldn’t find a single non-compliant aspect.
Ten minutes later, Scarlett Shaw’s reimbursement was transferred.
"Really appreciate it, Accountant Grant," she said with a cheerful smile.
As for Chloe Grant, her face was as dark as pig liver.
Before Scarlett left, she glanced at Chloe, put away her smile, and said coldly, "Chloe Grant, you’re really being pointless this way."
Chloe scoffed, "Put away your self-righteous act, Scarlett Shaw; I’ve disliked you since we were young."
"That’s great,"
Scarlett looked at her and said.
"Life is short, less than thirty thousand days; the fact that you can keep thinking about me is a sentiment I accept."
With that, Scarlett walked out of the Finance Department, returned to the Investment Department, packed her things, and got off work.
Veridian headquarters, located in the prime center of Capitoline, was surrounded by bustling cars and people on the street next to the office building. As Scarlett stepped out, Ryan Ford walked from a nearby flowerbed, one hand in his pocket.
Under the streetlight, the man’s charming eyes were full of clarity, as if he expected her to appear at this time.
Scarlett couldn’t help frowning.
Behind her, the sound of high heels clicked as Chloe Grant emerged. Ryan nodded at her, "Thanks."
"You’re welcome." Chloe’s cold gaze brushed past Scarlett with mockery in her almond eyes.
She wouldn’t fight Scarlett Shaw over Ryan Ford.
How pointless.
Scarlett Shaw now had Aaron Carson as her boyfriend, clearly showing her interest wasn’t on Ryan Ford, while Ryan, aside from sleeping together, obviously had no romantic feelings.
Instead of fighting over Ryan Ford’s unreliable affection, it was better to keep a working relationship and ensure Ryan doesn’t let Scarlett off.
This way, not only would it benefit herself, but it would also make Scarlett uncomfortable.
How long could Aaron Carson, being the current boyfriend, tolerate a woman entangled with her ex?
In the end, Scarlett Shaw was destined to find herself displeased on both fronts.
The mockery in Chloe’s eyes unconsciously switched to triumph as she stepped away in heels just as Ryan closed in on Scarlett.
"Isn’t Aaron Carson your boyfriend?"
Ryan Ford looked at her and said.
"You’re working late, and he’s your colleague. Didn’t he offer to take you home?"
Scarlett: "He’s busy."
Ryan chuckled, "You sure are considerate."
Scarlett nodded, "Yeah, otherwise how could you have put a whole soccer team’s worth of green hats on me?"
Ryan pinched his brow and raised an eyebrow, "Scarlett, I apologize for the past. I’m genuinely seeking reconciliation this time. I promise not to fool around again. Can we have a proper relationship? At least give me a chance to pursue you, okay?"
"Oh, please spare me."
Scarlett looked utterly unimpressed.
"Ryan, that overnight escapade with a certain starlet was trending for days, and you still dare speak of sincerity with me. Did you guys listen to Liang Jingru all night, gave you the courage to say this to me?"
