Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 445 - 423: Parting Sorrows
When Simon Forrester turned her over, she didn’t know it was to apply medicine, thinking he was just going to wipe her body to cool her down. Half-asleep, she didn’t say anything.
When the medicine touched her, she was stunned. Her eyes widened in surprise for a moment, and a few seconds later, she belatedly cried out, "It hurts!"
He felt heartache too, held her gently for a while, and then started another round of physical cooling.
After a whole night of tossing and turning, Sienna Thornton finally broke her fever by the morning.
Simon Forrester hadn’t slept all night. Seeing it was past seven, he didn’t bother to sleep. He went out to make some lean pork congee, and when he brought it into the room, Sienna wasn’t in bed.
Startled, he put down the congee and strode into the bathroom, only to find it empty as well. Finally, he went to the wardrobe, where Sienna was changing clothes.
He walked over, placed a hand on her body, felt her forehead, and breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, no fever again." But seeing her pale face and her work attire, he tensed up, "Are you going to work?"
"Yes, since the fever is gone, it’s fine. I’m leaving for Valois tomorrow, and there’s still so much preparation to do. I have to go to work."
"No way!" Simon Forrester rarely put on a stern face, his tone as cold and hard as scolding a subordinate, "You’re going to work with a high fever? It’s because you’ve been overworking yourself with overtime that your immunity dropped, causing the fever! If this continues, your body will break down!"
He rarely spoke to her so harshly, and she was stunned for a moment, then suddenly hugged his waist and softly said, "You didn’t sleep all night, you must be tired. I’ll go to work and you take a good rest today."
Simon Forrester didn’t move.
Actually, after he finished speaking, he realized his tone was too harsh and was worried she’d be unhappy because of it and his interference with her work. But instead of getting angry, she gently instructed him to rest well, which made him feel even guiltier.
He sighed, sat down with her in his arms, and softened his voice, "Sorry, I was too harsh earlier. I’m just worried that if you insist on working like this, it’ll be troublesome if the fever comes back."
She rested her face on his chest, clutching the hem of his shirt with her small hand, shaking her head, and quietly bargaining, "I’ll take the thermometer to work. If I get a fever, I’ll call you to pick me up and bring me home to rest, okay?"
Since she had compromised so much, Simon Forrester couldn’t insist anymore and relented, "Alright, but I’ll pick you up at noon to rest."
"Okay."
After breakfast, Simon Forrester took Sienna Thornton to her workplace on time and then went to a nearby grocery store to buy beef bones, meat, and vegetables, planning to make beef congee for her at lunchtime.
After all this hustle, by the time he finished cooking lunch, it was already after eleven. He tidied up a bit and drove to pick up Sienna Thornton to bring her home.
Sienna didn’t have a fever again, and after lunch and a nap, returned to work at two.
Perhaps knowing Simon would worry, she didn’t work overtime that evening and was back by six. After dinner and a hot bath, she started packing, not touching any work, and was in bed before ten.
When Simon came out after his bath, he saw her lying in bed like a good girl. As usual, he took her temperature, made her drink water and take her medicine. Before sleeping, he didn’t forget to place the thermometer and fever reducer on the bedside table, just in case.
Turning off the light, he gently embraced her weakened form, covered her with the quilt, and softly kissed her forehead: "Sleep early, I’ll take you to the airport in the morning."
"Okay."
Sienna wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her face on his warm chest, feeling cozy and content.
-
The flight was at noon the next day, so that night, Sienna had a good sleep. Having taken cold medicine that made her drowsy, she slept until nine in the morning the next day.
After breakfast, and dilly-dallying for a bit, they left at ten. Simon Forrester carried her suitcase as they went downstairs together.
As the car left the SY Design Firm complex, Sienna thought she saw her old light blue Volvo entering.
Remembering that the car was now used by Simon’s assistant, Sienna tapped Simon’s arm and asked, "I think I saw Gavin Gale go into the design firm. Was he looking for you?"
Simon paused for two seconds before answering, "Maybe he has business with Harrison Rowe."
Though Sienna couldn’t think of what official business the Forrester Group chair’s assistant would have with the SY Design Firm’s director’s assistant, she didn’t question further because of Simon’s explanation.
Regent Street to the airport via the highway took forty minutes. During this time, Simon constantly reminded Sienna to take care of herself on the plane, eat her meals on time, and not just sleep and skip eating.
Sienna found him nagging but took every word to heart.
At the airport, after parking, Simon carried the suitcase and led Sienna to the departure hall.
Initially compliant in letting him hold her, she wrapped her hand around his arm after a few steps, snuggled her head against his shoulder, and earnestly said, "While I’m away, you mustn’t run off. Come home on time every day after work, or I’ll make surprise checks!"
Simon laughed, "How will you make surprise checks?"
"By checking your location!"
Simon laughed even more heartily, "What if I leave my phone at home and go out?"
Sienna: "..."
Seeing her both angry and helpless, Simon stopped laughing, pinched her nose, "Don’t worry about such things, you know I wouldn’t."
Hugging his arm with a grin, Sienna said, "I know you wouldn’t, but I had to say it. It’s part of the ritual!"
The two of them chatted and laughed their way into the terminal. After getting the boarding pass and checking in the luggage, Simon took Sienna to the security checkpoint.
At this moment, Sienna felt a bit of a lump in her throat, and her mood turned melancholic.
Holding Simon’s hand, she lowered her head as they walked to the security checkpoint, suddenly wrapped her arms around his waist, and buried her face in his neck, her voice muffled, "Will you miss me these days?"
"Of course, I’ll miss you every single moment."
"Then will you video call me every night before bed?"
"Yes."
Sienna still wanted to tell him she remembered his birthday and had prepared a gift for him, but before she could, she spotted the colleague accompanying her to Valois.
The colleague called out "Director Thornton," and hearing this, she quickly disentangled from Simon, suppressing her feelings of sadness and womanly parting emotions, and instantly returned to the competent and straightforward Director Thornton she usually was.
The colleague, noticing she was saying goodbye to a lover, offered a few pleasantries and then went through security first.
Sienna continued to act coy with Simon for a little while longer before reluctantly heading to the boarding area.
Turning around three times as she walked, she waved goodbye to Simon until his tall, upright figure turned into a dot before she lowered her head and continued on to the lounge to meet with her colleagues.
