Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 771: Changes Across The Sea 2 ()
Silence. It was that first reflexive response when one was exposed to information that did not seem logical in any sense, yet was a reality.
And then, there was disbelief.
"But that... that’s not possible. He...has to be bluffing." Neveah finally muttered, more to herself than to Alpha Nolan. But from her tone that was barely above a whisper and the uncertain look in her eyes, it was clear that she wasn’t entirely confident in her statement.
Alessio from some years ago knew nothing about Neveah’s true heritage, he genuinely believed he and Neveah shared blood relations through Lothaire Raul, and he certainly did not know her birth mother was a shifter, or even affiliated with the prestigious Winter Domain, and not just a random affiliation, Eira was by blood and birthright, Alpha King of the Domain.
Even Neveah had been under the impression that her birth mother, Eira, was human for most of her life. She only came to know the truth after meeting Kaideon. So how exactly could Alessio discover it?
And if he now knew so much, what was to say he did not know where Neveah’s mother was? Eira’s death had never been confirmed, as no word was heard about her since her disappearance.
The conclusion that she most likely had passed on was based on the signs Kaideon had experienced, symptoms of the severing, leading to his speech impairments for over a decade. But even Kaideon himself was not certain, he had admitted to Neveah that his experience was not quite like he had seen it happen to others.
And Neveah did not need to have been there to know. With how deeply her father loved her mother, even now, over a decade later...he had never looked at another woman. His love for her was obvious in everything he did, he carried memories of her everywhere he went... Kaideon, could not have survived the full extent of the severing.
It was still a mystery to everyone that he lived. And though Neveah was immensely grateful for it, she could not ignore the peculiarities.
There had always been the lingering question. What exactly happened to Eira two decades ago?
And Neveah was willing to bet her own life that Lothaire had something to do with it. But there was no proof, there had been none for two decades... except, Neveah’s existence itself.
All of a sudden, Alessio had Eira?
"I thought the same." Alpha Nolan admitted. "But...if there is even the slightest possibility, an atom of a chance... that Eira lives, it is not something the Winter Domain can ignore."
Kaideon had once said the Winter Domain had never stopped searching for Eira, determined to only believe her death when there was a body to prove it. To them, it was impossible to overlook this, even if it obviously was a trap.
And Alessio...he must have known that.
How much did he now know about Neveah’s birth? How far would he go with that information?
"Did you meet him, then?" Neveah asked. "Did he say where my mother was?"
"A meeting point was set." Alpha Nolan revealed. "They were already headed for the domain, so I led my vanguard warriors to the borders to cut them off. However, we never got to meet them. One moment, we were crossing the unclaimed lands beyond our borders, and the next...we were here."
"It was a trap, after all." Neveah clenched and unclenched her fists. "It could not have been a coincidence."
"It wasn’t." Alpha Nolan confirmed. "We only knew when we arrived here, that there was a war and we were caught in the middle of it."
Neveah hissed beneath her breath. "And so, you had to take a drastic measure as an insurance for the safety of your warriors." It had all begun to make sense.
"Taking over the lower district was the best course of action at the time. Since then, we’ve repeatedly attempted to establish contact with Kaideon...but..." Alpha Nolan trailed off.
"My father didn’t ignore your predicament. He’s... well, he’s stuck in another dimension." Neveah said, for lack of a better explanation.
Alpha Nolan’s brows furrowed slightly. "A world of magic is a world of unthinkable dangers. Is Kaideon... going to be fine?"
"I... don’t know." Neveah replied honestly. "But he would not want you to be worried about him, right now."
"If everything is as you said, then Alessio sent you here for one of two reasons." Neveah continued, her tone dark. "If I was still obsessed with my loathing for him, and acted on it... I would have made the greatest mistake, annihilating my own family."
"A cruel, sinister...yet genius plan, very characteristic of the Lothaire’s." She murmured.
How could Neveah not understand it? At some point, she bore that same name... Lothaire.
Sending the Winter Wolves to the stronghold through Fae portals, at a critical time when the Fae and Dragons were at odds, was essentially borrowing the hands of others to kill.
And Alessio would only do that, if he knew already that the decision would fall to Neveah.
"He knows... that I’ve become the Dragon Queen." Neveah said. "The Fae...they have been in contact with the Eclipse Domain for a long time already."
"You’ve become what...?" Alpha Nolan asked in astonishment.
Neveah passed him a look, realizing the Winter Domain would not have received that information. Their only source, Kaideon, was in another dimension.
"The Dragon King of the Asvarian stronghold...he is my mate." Neveah explained as best as she could.
Alpha Nolan blinked in surprise, shaking his head in disbelief. "But Kaideon said..."
"Alessio was my mate. I know what he told you." Neveah muttered. "I guess my hybrid roots afford me two bonds, or whatever trick of fate happened...but that is not the point."
"The point is, Alessio knew this and sent us to get killed at your hands." Alpha Nolan surmised. "The cowardly bastard."
"Cowardly, perhaps. But he was this close...to succeeding." Neveah admitted, she got up to her feet, running a hand through her hair.
"The question is? Was the Fae in on this...and is the Winter Domain still safe as we speak?"
