Chapter 770: Changes Across The Sea (Ch.771)

For a good few moments, Neveah regarded this strange man in silence, mulling over the words he had just said. She was certain she had never met him before, but from his words, and his distinct features, she had a very good idea of his identity.

It was only that, for him to be here, at this time, was something that just did not make any sense. And she was not particularly certain how to react.

She had contemplated a thousand times, the first words she would say to Alessio, or Lothaire. Or if her claws would execute the reunion instead, however, she had not really considered this.

"I like my hair the way it is." Were the first words out of Neveah’s mouth, her tone reflexively defiant, and she suppressed the urge to cringe visibly.

In response, and to her mortification, he patted Neveah’s head, like she was some toddler in his eyes. "Good for you."

And then, without another word, not even an introduction or an attempt to clarify Neveah’s surprise, like he could tell she had already put the pieces together, he turned and strode off into the thick fog, clearly expecting her to follow.

Blinking in astonishment, she hurried after him. Squinting to catch a glimpse of his silhouette through the fog, while he glided on like he could see perfectly well through it.

It took only a short time before the fog was left behind them and they trudged through a thin forest path. Neveah’s eyes were trained on this man, for someone stuck in a dream spell, he certainly seemed completely at home.

He led the way till they arrived at a small cabin right in the middle of nowhere, which he walked straight into, leaving the door open for her.

For a short time, she lingered on the porch, unsure. It wasn’t until his head popped through the door again, fixing her with an impatient glare.

"Well?" He urged. "I don’t know about you, but I don’t have all the time in the world."

Neveah noted he was quite peculiar in character for someone with such an imposing aura. She was not certain if she found it amusing, or worrying. She pushed aside her hesitation and stepped into the cabin, where a small wooden table was at the very centre of the receiving room.

He stood by the door and gestured for Neveah to take a seat at the table. It took a while before he broke the silence.

"You sent us in here, didn’t you?" He accused.

By ’here’, Neveah assumed he meant the dream spell currently at work. Neveah pursed her lips, and nodded slowly.

"I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t know...who..." Neveah trailed off, but she didn’t need to complete her statement because he nodded in understanding.

"How about now?" He asked, crossing his arms.

"Well... you must be Alpha King Nolan of the Winter Domain." Neveah replied with a shrug.

He hummed. "Indeed I am."

"You are also...my mother’s little brother." She added, in a much quieter tone.

This time, Alpha Nolan did not respond. He was perfectly silent for a long moment before he exhaled heavily.

"When Kaideon sent word of your existence... I did not dare believe it. That Eira had left behind an offspring in this world..." He paused, moving away from the door, to take a seat across from Neveah.

"Now, I do." He murmured, his tone hoarse and barely audible. "You look just like your mother, Neveah."

A surge of emotions rushed through Neveah, all at once. So rapidly that it was almost painful. "I’ve been told." She replied quietly.

"You don’t act like her though." He added, "You act very much like that annoying jerk of a dragon, Kaideon."

Neveah’s lips twitched in amusement but she nodded in agreement. It was not loathsome to share a bit of the traits from both her parents, not when she had grown up believing she wasn’t even worthy of being born.

"I would like to sit and hear about everything you’ve been through...but, there is no time." Alpha King Nolan continued. "The Winter Domain is under attack, and I must return with the warriors immediately, your grandfather will not be able to withstand the Eclipse forces for long."

Neveah’s heart dropped at the mention of the Eclipse Domain, her eyes going wide.

"But there is a peace accord between the four domains. There haven’t been any wars in centuries!" She hissed in disbelief.

"The realm has long changed since your time there, Neveah. Alessio Terran Lothaire was crowned Eclipse Alpha King after overthrowing Lothaire Raul, and the wars are unceasing. The Eclipse Domain has been ridden with internal strife in his cause to gain absolute supremacy, and now, he has set his eyes on conquest." He revealed, his tone cold and deadly.

’Alessio is Alpha King now... seizing power through carnage and bloodshed, just as Lothaire taught him to.’ Neveah’s fists clenched at her sides.

Alessio was Lothaire’s sole heir. It had not been a question that he would inherit the title someday, it had been a given. But to think it had already happened, and in such a manner, it was exactly the same as the false reality the dark sorcerer had sent her into, and at that thought, Neveah suppressed a shudder.

"For him to be so daring to challenge the Winter Domain, there has to be something more..." Neveah murmured. "Alessio knows the Winter Domain is second only to the Ethereal Domain and the Eclipse Domain falls short in strength."

Alpha Nolan nodded.

"A few days before arriving here, we received word that the alliance of fifty eclipse packs, led by Alessio was headed for the Winter Domain. While those are grounds for a war, they claim to have not come for a fight but a bargain..." He trailed off.

Even before the terms were uttered, Neveah’s heart already sank.

"He demands a nonviolent surrender from the Winter Domain. He claims...to have Eira." Alpha Nolan revealed.
