Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 769: Dream Spell ()
Magic was always a mysterious thing, it was volatile and unpredictable, even to its wielders, and this was perhaps the first and most important lesson Neveah had learnt since bonding Demevirld.
And so it was no surprise when at the end of the mage spell, Neveah found herself standing in a completely strange and unfamiliar place, alone.
It was one of two things. Xenon being a full blooded dragon had a very high resistance to magic. While Demevirld’s magic could possibly have an effect on him, the magic spun by the mages may not have been as successful.
And if it was, their spell could not ensure that both Xenon and Neveah arrived at the same place, at the same time. Perhaps they had been transported to two completely different parts of the dream spell woven by the mages.
Whatever it was, Neveah knew there was no use dwelling on it. The sooner she concluded her business here, the earlier she could get back to Xenon and alleviate his worries that would steadily build by each moment they were apart.
At this point, Neveah took stock of her surroundings.
A thick, dense fog enveloped the forest. It was the kind of fog that made it difficult to see as far as an inch ahead from where one stood.
But Neveah could tell she was in a forest. The smell of moss, damp earth and decayed leaves were more than enough to go by.
From the accuracy and sensitivity of her sense of smell, Neveah could tell she had retained her wolf side and all its abilities here in the dream spell, however she was not so sure about Demevirld, she couldn’t sense him.
Neveah carried on through the fog, her senses on high alert. Dream spell as it was, hundreds of raging wolves were trapped here. She did not suppose they would take kindly to her, trapping a predator was the surest way to trigger its savage instincts.
She had only been walking through the fog for a short time when her senses alerted her to the fact that she was being trailed.
Neveah did not react to it. She kept steadily on her path, trudging through the forest. If she made the first move, she would be at a disadvantage since she was not familiar with the terrain just yet.
Whoever was on her trail would reveal themselves in time. Ultimately, she had come here to meet them, to hear what truth lay behind that letter.
To settle the scores of the past, if need be. It was something only she could do, something she had to do herself and for that reason at least, she was relieved to be by herself.
It didn’t take long for her tracker to reveal himself. Neveah sensed it the very moment he lunged, she heard his claws dig into the ground, gathering the momentum that would propel him straight for her throat.
However, knowing he was coming did not prepare Neveah enough. She spun out of the way on instinct, narrowly escaping the impact, but she did not get the chance to retaliate. Her attacker was faster and disappeared just as swiftly.
In that entire time, Neveah did not even catch a glimpse of him. She sensed him, but she could not see him. For whatever reason, he blended so perfectly into the fog that other than his presence, there was no other sign of his existence.
Neveah’s wolf rose to the surface, amplifying their senses and she let it take full control, abandoning the need to see her opponent coming.
The fog seemed to be growing thicker. How her attacker could see so clearly through it was a mystery to Neveah, but she held her ground. Trudging forward like she had not just been attacked.
Beneath the surface, Neveah’s senses scanned the environment to determine where the next attack would come from or how many attackers she faced. This dream spell was after all prowling with wolves.
’There’s just one...’ Neveah thought to her wolf.
’His aura...it should be at the very least, An Alpha King.’ Neveah’s wolf thought back.
Between Lothaire and Alessio, both were Alpha Kings by birth and right. They both had similar auras too...it could have been one or the other, but neither was a good option for Neveah.
Her heart dropped to the pit of her stomach, but she was quick to calm herself.
The next attack came suddenly, almost escaping Neveah’s notice. She flipped backwards at the last moment, her claws lunged out but she missed.
He was fast...faster than any other werewolf Neveah knew. And while the fog dampened Neveah’s senses, his seemed only sharper.
The third time, Neveah chose differently. She braced herself for impact and stood in place, awaiting an attack that never came.
After a few heartbeats, the presence of her attacker suddenly felt overwhelming and his aura slammed into her like a physical hit. Neveah stiffened and then slowly turned around, coming face to face with bared teeth and an animalistic glare.
The werewolf glaring down at her was towering, even bigger than Neveah’s own wolf form. Which meant he towered over her completely.
But what left Neveah speechless was not his massive size or towering height, or even the canines that could chomp off her head at any moment.
No. It was the fur. A soft, snowy white, completely unmarred by any other colour. It made sense to Neveah now why she could not see her attacker all this while.
With pure white fur, the fog was the perfect camouflage. Neveah blinked in astonishment as the wolf peered down at her for a moment and then in the blink of an eye, in the place of the wolf stood a man with snowy white hair cropped short to his head.
He crossed his arms, a puzzled look on his face as he examined me from head to toe.
"I expected to see Kaideon... demand an explanation for all this madness." He stated. "You bear no resemblance to him. That’s a good thing, the hair could be paler...but you’ll adjust just fine to the Winter Domain."
