Chapter 708: Strange Reality 2 (Ch.709)

"I have asked Laila to prepare a warm bath. I will help you wash up." Alessio’s words were immediately met with a disagreeable reception from Neveah.

Neveah tried to speak, only able to make sounds and so she gave up on that and instead, gathered all the strength of will she could.

She shoved Alessio’s chest just as she arrived at the doors to her washroom, using all the strength she could muster despite her weakened muscle.

Though it was barely much of a shove, Alessio had not expected it and his distraction made him stumble back slightly and lose hold of Neveah, sending Neveah straight to the ground.

Neveah fell to the hard wooden ground, wincing at the pain of impact. She was certain a bruise would form quickly.

"Omega! You’ll hurt yourself!" Alessio exclaimed, reaching for Neveah once again.

Neveah recoiled as much as her weakened muscles would allow.

"D... don’t..." Neveah forced the words out and then bracing herself, she dragged her limp body across the ground on shaky arms till she was fully into the washroom and Neveah shoved the door shut.

"Omega, don’t be like this, I am sorry." Alessio called from the other side, knocking on the door.

Neveah feared he would grow furious and begin banging or break the door in, but it was once again a surprise when he didn’t and instead heaved a defeated sigh.

"The drug will wear out in a few minutes. I will be waiting outside... I will not leave until I have your forgiveness." Alessio said in a quiet tone.

His presence lingered for a bit before his footsteps retreated and Neveah breathed a sigh of relief when the door to her room closed shut indicating Alessio had gone out into the hallway.

Neveah leaned against the door of the washroom, breathing unnaturally heavily for the little effort. It was clear to Neveah that she did not have half as much strength in her body as she used to and that was no surprise.

The absence of her wolf meant just one thing, Neveah was now more or less human.

’Or a light blood...’ Neveah thought to herself.

But that was only if Lothaire’s claims were as deceitful as Neveah wanted to believe, that was only if all her memories of Asvar had been true and not just some dream.

’But how could it be a dream? How could all the terror, the fears, the pain...and even the love, all these new overwhelming feelings she had come to know and had felt so deeply and powerfully, how could any of that had been just a dream?’ Neveah wondered.

Neveah was not inclined to believe it. It was more likely this was just another mind game, a trick of sorcery. It would not even be the first time too, the dark fairies that infiltrated the first light hall had also done something similar to this once, bringing Neveah’s greatest fears to life.

Only that it had not been anything quite like this where Neveah was actually pulled living and breathing into the world of her darkest memories.

"It has to be... this must be the effect of the dark sorcerer’s spell. This must be why he did not give chase when Imagor cleared me a path...he already had something lying in wait." Neveah murmured thoughtfully.

Just as Alessio had said, Neveah could feel the strength returning to her muscles and so she forced herself to her feet and locked the door, which she had been unable to do before.

Neveah staggered over to the bath. The stench of the murky dungeons and whatever horrifying blend formed those puddles had stuck to Neveah’s clothing and skin and now that she was fully aware of it, it took everything in Neveah not to retch.

She quickly stripped off the soiled dress and tossed it as far away from her as was possible in her small washroom.

Neveah then reached out to feel the temperature of the bath water. It was indeed warm as Alessio had said, just the right temperature that would provide some ease to Neveah’s widespread bruises and aches,

But Neveah instead opened the drain and let the water flow out. What had she not learnt to be wary of with Alpha Queen Vilma eager to drug test?

Even as far as her bathwater had been contaminated before, Neveah knew to be cautious.

Neveah rinsed out the tub for a short time, before she refilled the large tub with cold water. The mist swirling from the water was one of the tell tale signs that winter closely approached and had already left its chilling marks, but Neveah had already sensed that in the short walk back to her quarters.

When the water was up to the right level, Neveah got in, ignoring the chills from the water. She submerged herself completely, perhaps unconsciously hoping the chill would somehow awaken her from whatever nightmare this was.

But of course, that was but vain hope.

Her lungs soon began to burn and crave for a breath of air and so Neveah’s head once again broke the surface. It was then she began washing herself until she felt slightly less like a dungeon rat.

Neveah took her time, changing into a robe hung up on the wall...it was her robe, of course. Neveah remembered it, but it was hard to once again relate to anything here, she did not wish to.

A knock on the bathroom door startled Neveah and she looked up sharply, her hands clenched into fists.

"Omega... I have to answer to father’s summons. But I will be back with you soon, I promise. Just... get some rest for the rest of the day and I will take care of everything else." Alessio said from the other side.

And then he fell quiet, anticipating a response. A response that he would never get.

Neveah just stared blankly at the door and Alessio soon got the hint, taking his leave with another heavy sigh.
