Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 89: It’s about to begin
Kyle sat atop the exaggerated roof at the entrance, watching everything unfold with sharp focus.
’Hmm... there is no doubt about it. Those flickers are rifts.’
[Indeed, host. And the fact that you can see them without using God’s Eye means they must be high-ranking.]
That realization unsettled him. There were at least four flickers in his sight, which meant four ghoul-ranked monsters could emerge. And from what he remembered, they held the authority to command every Knull resident beneath them.
This would not be a chaotic stampede, but a calculated massacre.
Kyle shifted his gaze toward Amanda, who seemed to be in the middle of a discussion with Layena. Yet her responses were mild, clipped, almost restrained.
He couldn’t catch the details, but from what he could tell, the strange man they had captured recently was no ordinary figure. If anything, he was likely responsible for the disrupted mobile signals.
’Is that an EMP?’
[Something similar, but more advanced, host.]
Kyle was surprised. ’Aren’t those military-grade equipment?’
[Yes, host. However, due to the intensifying internal conflicts within the nation, there is a high possibility that PSC has developed technology on par with national security. If not better.]
’You mean to say stealing from PSC is that simple?’
[That... the system couldn’t answer.]
Kyle hummed, intrigued.
He was eager to see how things would unfold from here.
.....
"We need to knock everyone out and gather them in one place," Layena said, arriving at a decision she normally wouldn’t have considered.
Ethan nodded. "That seems to be the best course of action. Convincing them to leave the premises would take far too long." If a young man suddenly started shouting that a stampede of monsters would arrive in a few hours... it would sound like something straight out of a teenage fantasy or a bad dream.
Without the backing of an organization, extreme measures were all they had left.
"I do have sleeping vents in my room," Hannah added. "I brought them on the Commander’s advice. Looks like she was right."
Everyone had packed equipment for this mission, knowing how quickly things could spiral out of control. But no one had thought of bringing sleeping vents... no one except their Commander.
Ethan gave the command, "Clara, Hannah, you two go and use those vents. Every single person inside the resort needs to be secured in the safest room available."
Clara and Hannah exchanged a glance before Hannah nodded. "We’re on it."
Without another word, the two stepped into the resort, their eyes sharp and mind busy in thoughts.
Clara spoke up, "How are we going to gather everyone? They’ll all be inside their rooms, and the vents won’t cover such a huge area."
Hannah responded calmly, "Go and shut every window you see. Seal the place as quickly as possible. And once that’s done..." She turned to Clara. "Trigger the fire alarm. That will bring everyone out into the open."
Clara grinned. "Always ready to prank, aren’t we?"
Hannah rolled her eyes and nudged her away.
Meanwhile, she headed toward her room to grab the necessary equipment. This had to work.
....
"What are we supposed to do now? Just stand here and do nothing?" Amanda asked, her arms crossed.
The source of her irritation was the mustached man, who was currently winking at her with a sleazy grin.
If not for the barrier, Amanda would have already torn his face apart. Fucking bastard.
"A barrier of this strength couldn’t have been cast from afar," Layena said, maintaining her composure despite the chaos. "The chanter must be nearby."
Ethan immediately scanned the surroundings, but the more he looked, the more his confidence faltered.
"I think I know where they might be," Amanda said, recalling something she had heard earlier. "Remember? The lecturer mentioned that the forest around the resort becomes extremely dark at night because of dense fog."
At her words, the grinning man’s expression flickered.
Ethan caught the shift instantly. "Yes, you’re right, Amanda."
Layena followed, "Ethan, I leave this to you. Your skill will be useful in the dark."
Ethan’s chest swelled slightly. Being relied on by Layena sharpened his resolve and cleared his mind.
Failure was no longer an option.
"I’ll catch the chanter and free us from this cage," he said before bursting into a sprint toward the forest.
That left Layena and Amanda on the battlefield, facing the rifts.
The shielded man spoke, "Do you realize how fruitless this is? You have no time to find my brothers and remove the barriers. And even if you manage to do that, once these rifts mature, the presence they radiate will leave behind plenty of corpses."
Amanda bit her lower lip. This asshole was getting on her nerves.
Layena, however, remained calm. "I don’t know how many people will survive. I don’t know if I’ll see another sunrise. But I know one thing with utter certainty." She stepped closer to him before adding, "You are going to die. I will rip your heart out and make you swallow it. I swear it in my name."
The moustached man fell silent.
His lips twitched before he scoffed and turned away.
Layena turned to Amanda. "We need to secure the resort’s entry points."
Amanda frowned. "But there are so many ways in. How are we supposed to cover all of them?"
Layena shook her head. "Honestly, I don’t know. But we have to try." The reports suggested that stray Knull residents might appear around the area. However, this attack was clearly well coordinated.
Still, Layena hoped the chaos would draw the attention of the Nightwalkers stationed along the front lines, where a massive rift had already formed.
’I can’t believe how many times I’ve repeated that word...’
Hope.
It wasn’t something she usually entertained. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
But in these circumstances, she had no other choice.
.....
"Hmm... this looks serious," Kyle muttered, his eyes fixed on the flickering gateways that would soon turn into a source of chaos.
[Host, shall the system begin the stream?]
’What are you talking about? Am I supposed to stream this chaos for people to watch?’
[Host... your viewers are eager to see you grow through blood-pumping battles. This is your chance to shine.]
Kyle gave a wry smile. ’Did you already forget about the bug?’
If he used Genesis, it would be over. He couldn’t afford that, not unless Amanda’s life was in danger.
There was a line he would not let anyone cross. Even if it meant sacrificing his secret identity, so be it.
[Host, this is a good opportunity, isn’t it?]
Kyle hummed softly. ’Why do you sound so suspicious? What are you planning?’
[There is a high chance that the chaos will spread across the area. Under such circumstances, it wouldn’t be surprising if some Majins enter the resort and start wreaking havoc in the rooms. Perhaps one of them might unintentionally destroy the tracker resting in one of those rooms...]
"..."
This sneaky bastard wanted him to sneak into a girl’s room and pull off a tracker heist.
Though...the suggestion wasn’t half bad.
However, for that to happen, ’I need to wait. Who knows how long it will take for these rifts to-’
He fell silent and shocked.
Suddenly, the rifts began to tremble and darken.
He could now clearly see an outline of the crack.
[Host, they are about to mature.]
Here comes the destruction.
