Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 648: Difficult Request ()
Dragons were creatures of order and hierarchy, and they had their own ways of communicating respect and regard amongst themselves and to their superiors.
Neveah had learnt this from reading and observing the same patterns in the different dragon lords she had been honoured to interact with in the few years since arriving at the Asvarian stronghold.
It was precisely because Neveah had observed their behavioural patterns so closely that she understood the severity of this seemingly small gesture in passing from Lord Imagor.
It was one thing to incline the head in acknowledgement, it was another thing to offer a bow of respect, but it was not just anything for a member of the King’s guard to lower his head and then hold the bow, awaiting permission to be at ease.
It was the height of regard that could be given by prideful creatures such as dragons and reserved only for their ultimate ruler, their King.
This was the manner in which the King’s guard offered greetings before Dragon King Jian,
Neveah knew this and her heart shuddered nervously within her. She had known Imagor was unique in his ways, but she could never have anticipated or prepared to be faced with this level of regard at such a time as this when there was no official declaration or titles attached to her.
Neither Menarx nor Kirgan were surprised by Imagor’s visible expression of respect and regard, whereas they had chosen to be subtle with theirs in respect for Neveah’s choice to feign ignorance, Imagor had a different personality and they most likely had expected he would not be as subtle.
Menarx nodded slightly to Neveah, his gaze indicating she would have to see to this herself and they could do nothing about it.
All six brothers were much different in their own ways, Neveah had spent enough time in Dragon Keep to be able to tell that much.
Imagor, was one whose very being epitomised adherence to law and propriety. He played by the rules with unwavering dedication and would always insist on maintaining decorum among his peers.
And so, Neveah knew she could not find a way out of this but had to confront it directly.
"Be at ease, Imagor." Neveah permitted in a quiet tone.
Imagor stood straight, a meaningful look in his eyes but he did not speak much of what Neveah knew he would have liked to speak of.
It was a topic only Lord Mycroft had been forward about so far and Neveah did not think she needed another lecture on it, Lord Mycroft’s words had been enlightening enough.
"Come, seat. Your message arrived with urgency, I assume it would require immediate attention." Imagor said, gesturing for Neveah to take a seat.
Neveah complied, taking a seat on the couch in Imagor’s study.
Imagor then fixed a questioning glance on Tara, the only face he was not familiar with.
"Tara, Lady Isalder’s sister." Neveah introduced.
Imagor nodded slowly and he shrugged his shoulder lightly. Zephyroth got the hint and he spread his wings, moving over to his mother who reached her hands out to hold him.
"If Lady Adrienne and Tara will join me, let us give them the room for a time." Kaliana to Adrienne and Tara.
Both complied, understanding the need for privacy for what was to be discussed amongst the King’s guard and Everon.
When the three had taken their leave, Lord Rodrick also stepped out of the hall and closed the door behind him.
Imagor, Kirgan and Menarx took a seat on the other couches too while Everon sat beside Neveah.
Neveah exchanged a look with Everon and Menarx and Menarx nodded encouragingly.
"I... A few days ago, Jian... His Grace came to me." Neveah revealed.
Kirgan and Imagor nodded slowly, clearly, Menarx had already communicated some details to them.
"Narx broke the news. I still cannot understand it." Imagor admitted.
"Dream walking?" Kirgan asked in bafflement.
Neveah nodded, she reached for the pendant around her neck and pulled it off, placing it down on the table, she slid it over to Imagor.
"It is only possible with the aid of a little magic, it is an art unfamiliar to these parts but more common where I come from, witch magic. This pendant and...our bond, helps unite our dreams." Neveah explained.
Imagor picked up the pendant and examined it closely for a moment.
"It does give off a strange aura. But the magic on it is subtle... barely there." Imagor observed before handing it to Kirgan.
"Would it have the same effect for anyone who shares a bond? Can we communicate to Jian with this?" Kirgan asked.
"My father left it to me with the intent of keeping in contact with me. So I would assume it would serve...but I do not know for certain how the spell on it works." Neveah said truthfully.
"Let us not make any silly attempts that might alter the spell, we do not know enough about it to experiment and at this moment, it is the only means to communicate with Jian." Imagor dissuaded Kirgan.
Kirgan nodded in agreement and placed the pendant down on the table.
"There is more..." Everon added and he narrated the situation at the water source in Fort Scabbard.
"Scales... this is unbelievable..." Kirgan murmured, shaking his head slightly.
"There is a lot we cannot understand and explain for the time being, but what is most pressing is His Grace’s return to the stronghold..." Neveah began.
"You are right. This is why you have come to see us, I believe." Imagor said in a serious tone.
"And for this reason, I will have to make a difficult request of the King’s guard. One that would perhaps have you doubting the validity of my words." Neveah continued.
Kirgan and Imagor exchanged a look before fixing Neveah with an expectant gaze.
"I want access into the hidden archives... To retrieve the records of the previous Dragon King, Asrig." Neveah announced to the group.
