Chapter 647: Warm Greetings (Ch.648)

The small dragon retreated slightly, allowing Neveah the space to peel herself from where she was pressed against the chilling cold wall.

The moment Neveah stood upright, she cleared her throat lightly, still watching the small grey dragon warily.

Now that Neveah realized it was the young lord Zephyroth, Neveah realized she had no justifications to find him small at all.

Zephyroth was barely two years of age and already so much larger than a cub in size.

In human form, Neveah guessed he would still be learning to perfect his steps and speech at this age, yet he was so swift in flight already.

"He will be a great dragon, much larger than his father... perhaps as large as Xenon." Neveah muttered in awe.

"Imagor says so too." Kaliana agreed with a small smile.

Kaliana walked over to them, tugging her son by the tail out of the way, much to the young dragon’s dismay.

Neveah knew what was coming and she stilled herself from unconsciously stiffening as Kaliana pulled her into a hug.

"It is delightful to see you, Veah... truly." Kaliana said earnestly.

Neveah was quiet, she did not react or return the hug but at least, she made a point not to pull away.

And knowing Neveah’s nature, everyone could tell that much was already as much warmth as Neveah could muster, given the tensions between Neveah and Kaliana in the past.

"I fear I do not come with the best tidings." Neveah muttered after a short moment.

Kaliana pulled away, passing a look to Everon and Menarx before she returned her gaze to Neveah.

"There will be no such consideration amongst family." Kaliana said to Neveah with a shake of her head.

"Come, Imagor has awaited your arrival. We have cleared out the rider council for the time being, save for us, there is only Rodrick, you may be rest assured." Kaliana reassured Neveah they had taken measures to be discreet.

Neveah nodded and Kaliana led the way down the hallway. Neveah was about to follow when Zephyroth growled lowly, more in indignation than in warning.

Neveah passed the small dragon a questioning look. Raising a brow when he moved closer and perched on her shoulder, folding his wings neatly.

Neveah swiftly balanced her stance to accommodate his weight before she lost her balance.

Moving her shoulder slightly to give herself time to adjust to it.

"Zephyr, do you realise you weigh a lot in dragon form?!" Kaliana began to reprimand her son but Neveah shook her head slightly.

"It is fine. I am no dragon, but a little weight won’t harm me." Neveah reassured.

"His father and I talk about you a lot to him, he must find you really curious." Kaliana explained, fixing her son with an exasperated glare.

"About me? Lord Imagor?" Neveah asked in surprise as she walked over to Kaliana.

Kaliana smiled sheepishly and nodded her head. She did not seem to want to elaborate but Kirgan was more than ready to do the honours.

"Did you forget the epic moment you came out to meet Imagor during Kalia’s travails and asked him to go see her?" Kirgan asked for Neveah. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Kirgan then cleared his throat dramatically.

"Your rider is weak, Lord Imagor. I need you to strengthen her...to be her strength and that of your child. You can be strong and hold yourself together...or you can be weak and cry,"

"But whatever you shall do, do it at her side...so she hears you and knows you are there."

Kirgan performed a very apt depiction of Neveah’s manner of speech. Before inclining his head in a bow.

Kirgan’s act had everyone chuckling quietly, even Menarx and Everon, and Neveah equally smiled.

Though it was an experience that had been horrifying to her at the time, with her life hanging by a thread all through, Neveah was not bitter about it... she found it a comfort that they could all laugh about the experience now.

They had already arrived at Imagor’s study, it was set away from their personal quarters and it was a part of the second level Neveah had not visited often in her days in the Dragon Keep.

Kaliana led the way in and they all filed into the large hall.

Seated at a mahogany desk in the middle of the hall was Imagor, heaps of files and scrolls laid out before him.

There was another seat beside Imagor which Neveah assumed was meant for Kirgan, who alongside Imagor now governed the affairs of the stronghold.

And then there was Lord Rodrick, standing dutifully by Imagor’s desk as he would with Jian, sorting through scrolls and filing away those Imagor had attended to.

However, at their entrance, Imagor’s gaze lifted to them, a warm smile found its way to his lips and he lifted a hand to brush his hair out of his face.

"Narx!..." Imagor called fondly, rising to his feet and going around his desk.

He covered the distance between them in just a few strides, clasping Menarx’s hand and pulling him into a hug.

Menarx chuckled deeply, patting Imagor’s back in a fond manner.

"There, there... you are a father already, do not let your son see you acting so soft." Menarx teased.

Imagor scoffed beneath his breath as he pulled away from Menarx, brushing aside Kirgan’s offered hand.

"You aren’t happy to see me?" Kirgan asked in mock disbelief.

"You are neither my wife nor my son, but I see you more often than I see them, Kirgan, If you aren’t exhausted or the sight of me, I am of you." Imagor’s response was direct and honest.

Kirgan was visibly appalled and glanced at Lord Rodrick for help. However Lord Rodrick turned his gaze away, clearly intent on staying out of the situation.

"Lady Neveah." Imagor greeted as he moved past Menarx to Neveah.

Zephyroth swiftly flew off Neveah’s shoulder and perched on his father’s shoulder and Imagor crossed a hand, caressing Zephyroth’s head adoringly.

Imagor then returned his attention to Neveah, he inclined his head to a bow and it held, much to Neveah’s surprise and Neveah’s eyes widened, staring helplessly at Menarx and Kirgan.
