Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 611: Lord Mycroft ()
"You ready?" Dante asked Neveah.
Neveah nodded her consent and Dante went ahead to summon the portal.
A swirling mass of magical energy roared to life right before their eyes, glowing so brightly that Neveah had to turn her head away to keep her sensitive eyes protected.
"I will go through it first." Dante said to Neveah.
Dante then went right through the portal, far more at ease than Neveah has seen any dragon be with magic.
Neveah knew she had to go through without hesitation, the portal would not hold for long and Everon and Tara still needed to go through.
Tara who stood by Neveah’s side stepped back slightly, nodding for Neveah to go on and Neveah did, walking through the brightly glowing portal.
Neveah’s eyes went closed on instinct, there was nothing to see but the bright glow that would irritate her sight.
She heaved a quiet sigh as the surge of magic rushed over her, that familiar, detestable surge that always accompanied portal travel.
Neveah had realized it felt different each time, this time it was like there was a foreign substance washing over her skin, chilling cold to touch and leaving goosebumps in its wake.
Magic...it was one thing Neveah was not certain she would ever get used to, even now that she was unwittingly becoming more and more entangled with it by the day.
As much as Neveah would much rather have had nothing to do with magic in any form given all the troubles it had already caused her, there was no swifter travel method than portal travel.
Not even dragon flight was that swift and Neveah absolutely would not condone the idea of riding another dragon that was not hers to ride, not unless her life depended on it.
Any other means of travel would take a few days at the least, a few days that Fort Scabbard did not have to wait.
The surge of magic was swift and quickly passed, Neveah gritted her teeth as she was ejected out of the portal and had to intentionally catch herself before she lost balance,
It was the early hours of the morning and the sun had just risen to its peak.
Neveah squinted slightly so her eyes could adjust to the change in space.
The portal quickly receded and Neveah was left standing in a grand, well lit drawing room. Not far ahead from her was of course Dante who had just arrived before her, guiding the portal to this exact destination and then, another familiar face.
There were also a few other faces, dragon lords Neveah did not quite recognize, sitting around the drawing room and all eyes settled on Neveah the moment she materialized.
"Veah!" Estelle called, a bright smile on her lips as she hurried over from where she had been anxiously pacing across the room.
Neveah returned Estelle’s smile, she did not resist when Estelle took her hand fondly and pulled her into a tight hug and Neveah even lifted a hesitant hand to return the hug.
"You no longer stiffen when you are hugged. You have made good progress since last we met." Estelle commended as she pulled away, her smile so bright Neveah did not know how her cheeks could withstand it.
Not that Neveah minded, Estelle had always been a bright one. Bringing along with her a unique dash of color and excitement to every room she stepped into.
Even now, Estelle’s aura was as positive as always, soothing Neveah to some extent.
Neveah could not help a small smirk. She nodded in agreement. There were many things about herself she could no longer recognise... things she could not have believed herself capable of a year back.
Behind Neveah, Tara and Lord Everon had also arrived.
Neveah glanced around her immediate environment, for a moment. The drawing room they had arrived in was a grand one, but that was not what Neveah paid attention to.
Rather, Neveah’s attention was drawn to the door as another dragon lord strode in, exuding an oppressive aura that was difficult to ignore.
From his robes and the shift in the mood in the drawing room, Neveah could tell he held the highest authority here in Fort Scabbard.
He also bore a slight resemblance to Dante and his relaxed yet purposeful strides reminded Neveah so distinctly of her father.
Neveah knew Kaideon had once been a Scabbard dragon and Fort Scabbard were her father’s roots. What was more, Lord Mycroft of Fort Scabbard and her father had been trained in combat by the same Master Dragon in their much earlier decades.
"Good, everyone is gathered. Everon, you are here also." Lord Mycroft acknowledged in a gruff tone, before his gaze moved to settle on Neveah. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Veah, my father." Dante introduced as Lord Mycroft walked up to them.
Neveah lowered her head slightly to a small bow of respect but not so low, she was equally Lord over a fortress and was considered of comparable rank to Lord Mycroft, excluding other factors.
Lord Mycroft returned the acknowledgement of respect.
"Lady Neveah, I have heard many tales of you. Oftentimes, I found them exaggerated, but now I see they were instead an understatement." Lord Mycroft greeted warmly.
Neveah was slightly taken aback by the warm jest from a dragon lord, especially one of such status.
Dragon lords were more often cold and reserved in disposition and speech and Neveah had only met a few who were outgoing, Lord Kirgan being the first and Garron being the second.
Lord Mycroft seemed to be one of the few dragon lords who did not buy into the dark and cold parade.
It took Neveah a moment to formulate a response and when she realized she had been quiet for longer than was appropriate, Neveah cleared her throat slightly.
"You flatter me, Lord Mycroft." Neveah replied.
"Not at all. I am grateful you have honored my request to visit Scabbard, especially in times such as this." Lord Mycroft said, gesturing for Neveah to take a seat.
"With all due respects, My Lord, I have honored your request only because I cannot deny Dante and Estelle and I believe you know this, which is why you have sent Dante to me in person rather than a simple note." Neveah went straight to the point.
