Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 612: Lord Mycroft 2 ()
Lord Mycroft raised a brow at Neveah’s words, before he nodded once, not denying it.
"With the rumors on every lips that you are Our Liege’s bonded, many Lords of the Great fortresses have held intentions to seek you out, and you clearly have not been willing to be a party to it... naturally, I took measures." Lord Mycroft also went straight to the point.
"Let us not pretend that you do not know what the truth is and what the rumors are, My Lord." Neveah replied directly.
"Do not get defensive, Lady Neveah. Your attempts to keep your bond to Our Liege hidden till his return is noble, but will only last for so long."
"There has been no official declaration or royal decree stating your bond to Our Liege before the breaking. But we dragons are not so easily blindsided, not me alone...but the truth is clear to us all. Especially when you carry a piece of him with you... I sense it, even now..." Lord Mycroft trailed off, also taking on a direct manner.
Neveah knew Lord Mycroft referred to Jian’s scale. She did know, that those who were intuitive enough could sense the change.
Even though Neveah herself did not feel all that much different, save for the constant longing which she did all she could to conceal and suppress.
The merging of scale had been sudden, done in the wrong order and they had been soon parted. The bond did grow stronger by the day, but at a slow pace...to Neveah at least, but it seemed it was not the same from where others stood. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Our Liege’s scent is on you. His aura rests over you, it is bare...but it is there. Have your Dune dragons not told you of it? That you smell like him? That any of our kind that set eyes on you will know in the same moment to whom you belong?"
"That you cannot hide away in Dune City for much longer before the Lords begin to demand for you to do your duty?" Lord Mycroft asked.
Neveah’s brows twitched slightly, not missing Lord Mycroft’s reprimand hidden in his words.
Neveah could understand that as a Lord of a Fortress, Lord Mycroft could not see reason with her decision to keep her bond to Jian a secret, especially now when the stronghold needed a leading figure to take the reigns, yet there was no one with the right justification to lead dragon kind but the King’s guard.
The inheritance structure of the stronghold was sorely lacking. Jian had no heir or blood relative...
’But all of that only mattered in the worst case scenario, was that not so?’ Neveah wondered.
The worst case scenario would never become a reality, Neveah trusted this with everything she had. Neveah was certain the Lord Dragons equally had absolute faith in Jian, there was no cause for concern.
"Yet no one will speak of it...at least not yet. They await you to take a step forward yourself...but you have no intentions of doing that, do you?" Lord Mycroft asked Neveah knowingly.
"What does it matter if I am in the picture or not? The King’s guards have governing experience, they command the respect of the entire stronghold, they are excellent warriors and strategists... and they have done an excellent job holding the stronghold together in this time." Neveah said blankly.
"Jian and Xenon will not be gone long. The King’s guard will hold the world down until their return." Neveah said with certainty.
"The ability of the King’s guard is not in doubt, neither is Our Liege’s return or that of Lord Xenon. Do you reckon the dragon lords trust you more than the King’s guard?" Lord Mycroft asked with a raised brow.
"That is my point exactly. I am not at all a better option or even an option but for the fact that I am Jian’s bonded, so what does it matter if I wish to be left alone or not? Why do you even bring this up?" Neveah asked Lord Mycroft.
Lord Mycroft shut his eyes for a moment, tilting his head to the side.
"Because only the Golden scaled can give a ’call to battle’, a decree of fire and blood to all the beasts of Asvar in all corners of the stronghold... and the Fae know this. "
"If we are faced with a battle, Lady Neveah. That scale in you will achieve what the entire King’s guard will be unable to... and I fear as many others do, that not only do you not know the importance of it, you are not willing to assume the responsibility now attached to you..."
"But you are no longer just anybody, Lady Neveah. You surely are not the Lord of the White Dunes...you are the only link to the Golden Scaled left on this side of the world." Lord Mycroft said.
Neveah had no words, she only stared at Lord Mycroft in astonishment. Finding his words difficult to understand.
"Mycroft...you have said more than enough. Do not burden the child anymore." Lord Everon who had been quietly observing the exchange all this while finally said.
"I only convey the words you and the Dune Dragons, even my own son have become too attached to say. Now that I have done so, I will speak no more of it but the matters at hand." Lord Mycroft ended the topic abruptly.
"With your arrival in Scabbard today, the truth you wish to keep hidden will be further confirmed. Even so, I have asked for you because the safety of my people and the well being of my lands are my priority." Lord Mycroft continued.
"This, I fully understand." Neveah said truthfully.
"I do not think you do. If you hope to keep the power within you hidden for much longer, you should never have made the mistake of letting the citizens discover it... now, law and order are at stake here in Scabbard and it is my duty to have you take responsibility for it." Lord Mycroft said in a serious tone.
