Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 609: Another Way ()
"Stand guard, keep eyes on the battle and report back in a timely manner. Make certain the city remains unaffected and keep the people calm as you have done so far." King Jian ordered the rest of the dragon lords.
"Kaideon, you stay." King Jian added as he returned to his seat at the desk.
The dragon lords followed after Cassian and in a moment, there was just King Jian and Lord Kaideon left in the study.
When the door was shut, Kaideon broke the silence first.
"Having Cassian drag out the battle, would that not increase the risks of sustaining harm from the Great Orc? He is exposed and has no means of backup. Should the battle not go as planned, Cassian..." Kaideon asked in concern.
"The results of a battle is not determined by strength alone, there is none on my King’s guard more tactical than Cassian. Cassian is well able to handle a Great Orc. As are you...in your best shape. There is no cause for concern, not yet." King Jian murmured, picking up a scroll on his desk.
"You have other intentions then." Kaideon said knowingly.
King Jian passed Kaideon a look before he nodded once.
"The beasts emerging from the Black Sea are determined by the preceding victory. If Cassian reveals his true strength and finalizes the battle too soon... the next opponent will surely be one that is formidable enough even for Cassian, then there would be only one who can face it." King Jian reminded Kaideon.
"My Liege is the only one more skilled than Lord Cassian." Kaideon murmured in understanding.
"If there is one thing Asrig did say of the Champion’s game, it is the fact that one’s strength becomes your greatest enemy in this dimension."
"It is a slow and patient game, but it carries on till every last dragon is worn out from battle, then they would be out of options and be unable to protect even their own lives." King Jian murmured darkly.
"This is not the dark lord’s world anymore, Kaideon and we will not play to his games...we will not be victimized by his depravity this long after his death."
"Cassian must withhold as much strength as possible and ensure even this battle appears to be a struggle. There will not be another battle where our strength is predicted accurately. If this is all that we can control in this damned dimension, then we will do so without fail." King Jian said in a tone of finality.
"There is another reason...the spell on this dimension is powerful, the most ancient form of dark magic...the spells of the original dark sorcerers."
"These are spells now lost to time, yet still so potent in this dimension, controlling the beasts imprisoned in the black sea so excellently that the game is still in motion even when the mastermind is long dead." King Jian murmured.
"We must seal the black sea for good, to do that, we need Asrig’s records."
"When the black sea is at rest, the dark spell is too potent for flight overboard the sea, but I have sensed it grow much weaker since the bells tolled..." King Jian said thoughtfully.
"This is true. The effect of the spell on the entire dimension is centered on the battle circle during each battle, leaving the other parts of the dimension much weaker...so much so that some parts far beyond the black sea begin to fade in and out of existence." Kaideon revealed what he had noticed.
"The time Cassian is to buy us, Rauron will begin tracking the weakest point of the dimension...it is our best chance to be able to communicate with the outside world." King Jian said with a nod.
Kaideon walked over to the desk and took a seat across from King Jian. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"My Liege...tell me, what you have yet to tell me." Kaideon said knowingly, his expression apprehensive.
King Jian was not at all surprised that Kaideon already suspected something was off.
"Choosing Verothrax...was an error of judgment on my part..." King Jian began, his tone dark.
"Verothrax’s magic backfired, it was so much stronger than it had ever been and he lost control. He summoned a void to expel the death gale but he could not hold the tear in space, the void crashed instead... right at the outskirts of the barrier."
"We do not know the extent of effect as the portal was already in motion...we do not know how far..." King Jian trailed off.
Kaideon sucked in a sharp breath, leaning forward slightly.
"You mean to say, you do not know what has become of my daughter...my lands...my people?" Kaideon asked slowly, his tone eerily calm.
"Neveah is well... she is my rider. If harm befell her, I would sense it first. Even if it had happened before I knew what she was to me..." King Jian trailed off as memories of his recurring nightmare crept up on him.
King Jian had not been plagued by the nightmare for many nights already, yet the memory of it still left a cold chill, especially now that he knew well enough who the woman in his dreams was and why she had meant so much to him.
"Is that meant to reassure me? Because it does not." Kaideon replied coldly.
"Kaideon... I would never have allowed this to happen. You can detest me for my incompetency, but we do not have the luxury for that...we must find a way to return to the stronghold first." King Jian said in a serious tone.
Kaideon nodded once and leaned back.
"With Veah and Xenon in the Dunes, your lands and your people will not be harmed, Kaideon. They will make certain of it...but I still must send word, that I am well and I must know the state of things at present."
"It has been two days here but Creator knows how long it has been in the stronghold already." King Jian said, unable to keep the anxiety out of his tone.
Kaideon’s brows twitched slightly but he contained his fury and exhaled slowly.
"There is another way...to contact the outside world. I have left something to my daughter... just in case something like this ever happened." Kaideon said to King Jian.
