Chapter 601: A Long Forgotten Faith (Ch.602)

Neveah had just changed into fresh clothing and just as she stepped out of her quarters, she found both Garron and Coran awaiting there.

"What has happened?" Neveah asked warily as she slowly shut the door to her quarters.

"This... you will need to come see it for yourself." Garron said in a hesitant tone.

"Where?" Neveah asked.

"City Gates." Garron replied.

Neveah’s brows furrowed slightly but she nodded and walked past them down the hall.

"I will fetch Everon to accompany us, just in case." Coran decided and headed off a different hallway.

Neveah frowned at that, though she did not pause in her step. For Coran to think Everon’s presence was required, Neveah could tell whatever was happening at the city gates would unsettle her.

"Garron, tell me... whatever it is." Neveah asked of Garron as they got out of the castle.

Garron breathed a quiet sigh at Neveah’s words.

"It is difficult to explain Veah...there are thousands gathered at the city gates. Coming from various forts, even as far as Fort Rudder..." Garron relayed to Neveah.

"This Radiant One business again? Did I not order for such rumors to be squashed?" Neveah asked in a displeased tone.

"The rumor seems to have spread far more than we thought. All of the stronghold must have heard of it by now." Garron said.

Neveah frowned but said nothing more. It did not take them too long to arrive at the City Gates.

The first thing Neveah noticed was that the gates were firmly shut, even the small gate through which the city guard went in and out had been sealed shut and the city guard was either on the inner side of the gate or lining the city wall.

The second thing Neveah noticed was the noisy atmosphere coming from beyond the gates, it was like the sound of thousands murmuring and talking at once.

Neveah did not need to see to confirm that as Garron had said, there were indeed many who had come to Dune City.

The commander of the city guard dispatched instructions to his subordinates up ahead by the gates when he caught sight of Neveah.

The commander quickly jogged over to meet Neveah, lowering his head to a bow.

"Lieutenant... this... I will show you to the city wall." The commander said, gesturing for Neveah to lead the way.

Neveah walked past him and headed to the stairway leading up to the city wall and soon, she stood on the wall.

Neveah walked on to the center before she moved to the edge, the sight at the gates finally visible to her.

"What in the world?" Neveah whispered in astonishment.

Thousands, thousands of people. Humans and other species alike. They were gathered at the city gates and the entire path leading up to the gates for as far as the eyes could see.

How so many people could convene at a particular location overnight was a mystery to Neveah, what was even more difficult to understand was why exactly they were here in such multitudes.

But it was not only their numbers that was astonishing, it was the flags they carried. Locally made and roughly made white flags, but what was more eye catching was the golden eye embroidered on the flag.

More than that, Neveah could see amongst the multitudes, many had come with various items. Chests filled with precious stones and even baskets of fruits, all manner of things but none had come empty handed.

"They seem to be here to give offerings to the Radiant One...it was a common practice, to the High Queen of the Fae." Everon’s voice sounded from behind Neveah.

Everon had just arrived and he was clearly every bit as astonished as Neveah was.

"But it is strange, many other species are here too..." Everon murmured.

"Why are they so convinced there is a reincarnation of the dead here? What is the meaning of this madness?" Neveah asked with a frown.

"Veah... I think you should take another look at the flags." Everon said to Neveah carefully.

Neveah did that, the single golden eye embroidered on the flag had unsettled Neveah from the first moment she saw it and Neveah leaned over the edge of the city wall to get a closer look.

"It is her! It is the Radiant One! The Radiant One has come!" A voice suddenly cried in the crowd out of the blue.

Thousands of eyes lifted to Neveah simultaneously and Neveah’s eyes widened in alarm, she quickly retreated from the edge of the wall.

"That... Golden eye...it is... Demevirld?" Neveah asked Everon uncertainly.

Everon winced visibly but he nodded his head in agreement.

"It seems all the events since you lit up the barrier have been spun together to create a... believe. With how you were recognized immediately, many know of your Golden eye moments..." Everon murmured.

Neveah could not believe her ears.

"The reincarnation of the dead... is me? I don’t even have Fae blood!" Neveah hissed.

"Veah... calm. Fear is widespread in the stronghold and fear is a terrible thing because it moves the people to seek a place to place their trust.""

"With Jian gone, the people need something to believe in, this time...it seems you have triggered a long forgotten faith." Everon said to Neveah.

Neveah slowly approached the wall again and peered down at the crowd.

"Your Ladyship! We have come from far and near to welcome you! Everyone of us here have families or friends who cannot leave Fort Scabbard, the Contagion spreads quickly, taking many lives!"

"We entreat you to wield your healing powers and cleanse Fort Scabbard of the contagion, save our families!" A voice cried from the crowd.

"Take away the contagion!"

"Cleanse the stronghold!"

Various voices echoed through the crowd as they bowed in obeisance.

Neveah winced visibly as the voices echoed repeatedly, placing down their offerings.

"There have been deaths at Scabbard? Why did we not hear of this?" Neveah asked Everon.

"I think the most pressing matter is, what do we do now that they believe you can heal the contagion?" Everon replied warily.
