Chapter 600: What to do? (Ch.601)

"Come." Coran gestured for Neveah to attack as he stood in place, arms crossed behind his back.

Neveah studied Coran’s stance, seeking an opening in his defence and when she saw one, she lunged.

However, Coran was much faster and more agile. He swiftly moved to the side, escaping Neveah’s fist.

Neveah retracted her fist and reinforced that attack with a spinning kick, but Coran easily caught Neveah’s foot mid air, staring pointedly at her.

"You are fast, granted. But against a dragon, you are still severely lacking. You cannot rely on your speed alone if you are faced with a greater opponent than you...you must force your opponent to make a wrong move." Coran pointed out the flaws in Neveah’s attack plan.

Neveah nodded, retreating, she bounced on the balls of her feet to get herself back on track, before she lunged again.

This time, she feigned a right, twirled to the left but still attacked right just as Coran thought he had predicted her move.

Coran caught Neveah’s fist just an inch away from his face, a small smile on his lips.

"Always a fast learner. But still, the disparity in strength between a dragon and you is great... speed and one smart move still do not suffice. How can you compensate for it?" Coran asked Neveah.

"Run away?" Neveah asked sarcastically, a dissatisfied look in her eyes.

"Do not be impatient, Veah. Placing aside my natural advantages, I have had centuries to train and build my strength...whereas you have only seen two decades, it is only natural it will take time for you to be on par with me."

"What matters is that every day that passes by, you get better and you improve. Both your forms are much stronger than you were when you first arrived at Dune Castle over a year ago... even a full blooded Dragon will not find you an easy opponent." Coran reassured.

"Still not good enough..." Neveah murmured beneath her breath.

"Veah... building your strength is important. But it will not turn back the time or close up the canyon." Coran stated directly.

Neveah passed Coran a look before she sucked in a sharp breath.

"There it is again. Everywhere I go in this damned castle, you all look at me in that manner... with those eyes filled with sympathy. I hate it, Scales!..." Neveah hissed, as she grabbed a towel to wipe her sweat.

"Calm Veah...calm..." Coran reminded, his words only got Neveah more frustrated. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"If fate chooses to break the world in two than allow me a moment of reprieve, what can I do? Shall I do nothing at all? I cannot be emotionally disturbed... I cannot scream and cry even if that is what I want to do because if I do so, I might unleash a greater danger on Dune City."

"So what exactly can I do? What exactly am I supposed to do?" Neveah asked quietly.

Neveah sucked in another sharp breath, suppressing the torrent of emotions before they could build up and allow Demevirld an opening.

"We have been at it all morning. Go in, wash up and go see Everon." Coran said to Neveah,

"Forgive me, I should not be coming at you like this. This is not your fault...it is no one’s fault." Neveah apologized, inclining her head slightly.

Coran merely smiled, shaking his head slightly to show he did not take it to heart.

"You of all people have been torn the most by all that has happened, I know this well enough. It may be selfish of me to say this... but I am glad His Grace did not have you accompany him this time."

"The White Dunes is lucky, to have you on this side of the canyon." Coran said truthfully.

Neveah smiled sadly, nodding her head in agreement. At least, she could still protect her father’s territory with everything she had, if nothing else...there was still that one thing she could do.

Neveah headed back into Dune Castle, making her way to her quarters. She was not surprised when she pushed open her door and found Tara sitting on her couch, reading through a scroll.

"I assume you are here because you have a report for me?" Neveah asked Tara.

Tara placed down the scroll and followed Neveah as she headed to the washroom.

"As you instructed, I have confidentially recruited Faes amongst those banished from the Light Hall. With an assurance of reinstatement and being absolved of their crimes of working with the council and betraying their sworn oaths."

"They are still in custody and I will repeatedly vet them to be certain of their loyalty." Tara said to Neveah.

"Good." Neveah commended.

"But Veah, I am not clear as to why you are recruiting fairies and gaining their loyalty. All the Fae that were in service of Lord River have been proven to be traitorous, they should all be executed. How can you even trust them?" Tara asked Neveah in confusion.

"Amongst the hundred Fae who worked with Lord River, Lord River has confided in me that many only obey the Fae council for the benefit of their families."

"The light hall has been completely restaffed by Lord Eldowin, however while Lord River awaits trial at Dragon Keep, we must put the rest to good use. The crimes they have committed, storing adamantium in the light hall is on penalty of death...they know this better than anyone."

"However, in Jian’s absence, the death penalty cannot yet be given and the trial is on hold. If there is a chance to make amends, I believe there are those who will not hesitate to take it."

"In the same way the Fae infiltrated the Light Hall and caused the Dunes all these troubles, I will pay them back in that very same coin. Do not be mistaken, Tara... the Fae will attack us when we least expect it, but when they do, we will be ready." Neveah murmured.

"Creator knows not a piece of the stronghold will fall apart in Jian’s absence, I will not allow it... not even if it costs me everything." Neveah said determinedly.
