Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 599: Incarnations and Ghosts ()
"There has been no significant expansion of the canyon noted in the past three days." Garron reported to Neveah.
The Dune enforcers were once again gathered in the meeting hall, submitting their reports before the council.
"Keep a close eye on it. These are times when we must be prepared for anything." Neveah said to Garron.
"How are the evacuation plans going?" Neveah asked, her question still directed to Garron.
"All citizens closest to the first point of effect should the canyon spread this way have been successfully relocated to safer locations within the city. Should the canyon get past the barrier, we will have a few days at least before it reaches a residential area." Garron relayed to Neveah.
"We have made good progress with what time we have had this past month. The situation has not been easy on anyone, you have my thanks, Garron." Neveah expressed her gratitude.
"Coran?" Neveah asked for Coran’s report.
"The mages are still performing experiments to find the right strength of magic to summon a portal that can cross the mist. No one truly knows how far into the dark lands it goes, and knowledge of the terrain of the dark lands are equally limited."
"With little resources to work with, progress is slow. But the academy of magic will not relent and they are aided by the Fae of the light hall too." Coran reported.
"And the light hall? How is the situation there?" Neveah asked.
"So far, the Quatrefoil is 80% complete. Should we receive the last batch of channelling gems, the construction will take a week more and the Quartrefoil will be completely reconstructed. The barrier will then be at its full strength once again." Coran relayed.
"If that happens, we will not have to worry about the canyon eating into Dune terrain. The light hall is to remain utmost priority... what is this delay with the channelling gems?" Neveah asked in displeasure.
"Lord Menarx is yet to get ahold of it. The Fae is hoarding the shipment and Fae territory lies between our lands and the Mer Seas, there is no getting beyond it except we trespass." Coran explained.
"The Fae this... the Fae that..." Neveah murmured, quickly taming the rage that threatened to surge.
’Smart girl...’ Demevirld commended in Neveah’s mind, cackling at Neveah’s swift control of her emotions.
Neveah ignored Demevirld, she knew well enough that all he did was in the bid to trigger her.
"We are already at odds, we should just subdue them." Coran grunted in displeasure.
The other dune enforcers expressed their agreement.
"The King’s guard are not at liberty to give such orders, except it is extremely necessary...till His Grace returns, we cannot initiate a war, unless it comes to us." Garron reminded.
"We then cross our arms and let them do whatever they like?" Coran asked in disbelief.
"Send word to Menarx, I want those channelling gems delivered to Dune city as soon as possible... whoever needs to be offended must be. We cannot care to hurt the feelings of the Fae while they intentionally slight us at every opportunity." Neveah decided.
"Veah...are you certain we should indulge the Fae?" Garron asked uncertainly.
"What choice do we have? If it means restoring the barrier to full strength, indulging them is but the least of what I am willing to do." Neveah clarified.
"I will convey your words." Coran agreed without hesitation.
"What more is left to be discussed?" Neveah asked.
"A report from the City Guard. It seems the amount of people seeking entrance into Dune City has grown tremendously in the past few days. There are outrageous records of thousands seeking entry each day, coming from different fortresses and settlements." Garron reported.
Neveah frowned in bafflement at the situation.
"Is this not in the wrong order? Everyone knows Dune City will be the first to be swallowed up by the canyon if it spreads further. This is no safe place, why do so many want to come here?" Neveah asked in bafflement.
"There have been strange rumors spreading amongst them. After picking up bits and pieces over the past few days, the city guard drafted a report." Another dune enforcer relayed to Neveah.
"Tell me, what rumors?" Neveah asked.
"They say Dune City cannot be touched by dark magic because some miracle protector of light and banisher of darkness dwells here. Some even say the incarnation of the Radiant One is here or that she has come back to life and the breaking was a sign of her return..." Garron trailed off.
"The Radiant One? What is that?" Neveah asked uncertainly.
Neveah knew Dragons had names for their beast side. Just like Agardan was known to be the Vanquisher, Menarx was the Cruel Ruby and Xenon was the Black Fiend.
But the Radiant One?
Neveah had never heard of such a name before and Neveah was certain she was already well read about dragon history here in the stronghold.
"It is the name bestowed on the last High Queen of the Fae who was most renowned for her divine healing abilities..." Garron revealed hesitantly.
"Why have I never heard of this? A divine healer? What does that even mean?" Neveah asked in bafflement.
"The deceased High Queen was said to be capable of healing any ailments with just a touch. There were even rumours that she had raised one believed dead back to life."
"Due to this, she was only less famed than our High King Agardan...it is also because of this that the influence of the Fae withstood our subjugation."
"It was within our best interests to gain her support than oppose her during the uprising, because the human population believed the High Queen to be some otherworldly being...or something like that." Coran explained better.
"And that dead High Queen is now in Dune City? Doing what? Ghost business?" Neveah asked, unsure if she properly understood what she was hearing.
The dune enforcers sniggered in amusement and Garron chuckled quietly.
"Find the source of this silly tale and put a stop to it before we are overrun by seekers of this Radiant One. Creator knows we have enough on our plate... dismissed." Neveah ended the meeting.
As the Dune enforcers went about their duties, Neveah sat in place, pondering over what she had just heard.
"Incarnations and Ghosts? What in the world?" Neveah murmured to herself in bafflement.
