Chapter 570: What Now (Ch.571)

’I do not approve of his means, but the result is what I also wish for...that you value your life, as much as you value ours.’

The words played through Neveah’s mind, and not for the first time in the past hour.

"What does that even mean? That I am wrong and Jian is right? Am I expected to go to him and thank him for his gift?" Neveah asked in disbelief.

Neveah sat on the edge of her bath, her hand was dipped in the warm water that filled up the wooden tub and she swirled slightly.

"When did I ever not value my life? It is not like I went there to die or something... the only thing that could have killed me was that scale." Neveah grumbled beneath her breath.

Neveah could not understand it, King Jian had always let her do as she pleased before this time, even when he detested her.

This delicate treatment, Neveah was not certain how to react to it. On one hand, she knew she had caused concern, on the other hand, she did not think she would already be limited in the things she wished to do.

"Dragon Queen...the life that comes with that title..." Neveah trailed off.

Retrieving her hand, she shook off the droplets of water on it and got up to her feet, turning off the tap that filled up the tub.

Neveah sighed, opening the drain to let the water out. She had long been done washing up and she had not even realised when she filled the tub up again.

Neveah tightened the bath robe around her frame and stepped out, not surprised to find Tara seated on her bed.

"I heard you got an earful from Orin and your sister. I am sorry, I should not have taken you with me." Neveah apologized with a small sigh.

King Jian’s wrath had inturn provoked Lord Orin’s wrath.

Never had the Dune Lords doubted Neveah’s ability to take care of her matters, they only supported and offered any help when she needed it.

"It is like all of a sudden, they no longer trust in my ability to take care of myself. I have proven without doubt to the Dune Lords for the past year, and just some words from the Dragon King...an entire year is rewritten." Neveah begrudged.

"You are no longer the same person you have been this past year, Veah. Everyone must naturally adjust to it, should you also not make some adjustments?" Tara asked Neveah pointedly.

"I..." Neveah began to argue but she fell quiet.

"Well, you can take comfort in the fact that the effort bore fruits. The waterfall inn was a central point for exchange of intel and the records held of the black market are very detailed."

"The City Guard and Lord Garron have taken care of the waterfall inn...all guests and workers are apprehended for interrogation and the goods for the black market have been seized."

"The interrogation is underway and many others involved have been outed, Garron believes they will be able to completely shut down the black market here in Dune City in a few days."

"And the source of the supply of adamantium traces back to the Fae, with admissible evidence and Lord River’s testimony...a trial will be set, the Fae will have to cut off many limbs to escape this one."

"But with their interference in the light hall to cover their involvement in the trade, they will not have enough lives to forfeit." Tara reported to Neveah.

"One cannot say how it will be handled, the Fae is after all a mighty race by it’s own rights and a war will not benefit either races or the stronghold at large..."

"But at least, we have handed the weapon to the dragon lords, our part is done."

"I have kept my word to father, the trade of adamantium will be uncovered and eradicated." Neveah murmured, breathing a quiet sigh of relief.

Tara also sighed quietly, getting up to her feet, she walked over to Neveah and nudged her to take a sit on the bed.

Tara fetched a brush and slowly began detangling Neveah’s hair.

"Dune Lord will be fine, Veah... the dragon lords will spare no efforts. For the time being, you must keep your composure... the Dune dragons will look to you for guidance now, and you must uphold your father’s faith in you." Tara reminded quietly.

"I understand." Neveah replied quietly.

Tara put Neveah’s hair in a ponytail to keep it out of her face, but she styled it in a manner Neveah was certain she could never have achieved on her own.

"Here, wear this." Tara said, presenting a well tailored white riding dress, that clung to Neveah’s form snugly.

The dress had an asymmetrical cut across the shoulder that left one of Neveah’s shoulders on display.

Neveah could not recall when it had been tailored, most of her clothing here were prepared without her asking and she was certain it would be Tara or Lord Orin’s rider who had requested it to be made.

"You can no longer put on the city guard robes, you are not city guard." Tara reminded.

"Right..." Neveah murmured.

Neveah took the dress and went into the washroom, changing into it.

Tara already awaited with a pair of black boots.

"What is being said?" Neveah asked as she sat down to lace up the boots.

"The Light Hall has been entrusted to Lord Eldowin for the time being. His Grace can only let a trusted man oversee it while the personnel is being completely replaced."

"Lord Eldowin...he is a master in the academy of magic?" Neveah recalled.

"Indeed. Though he is of the Fae, he is also bonded to a dragon lord, as such he is trustworthy. Lord Menarx arrived with him." Tara relayed.

"Ah... I see..." Neveah murmured in understanding.

"Lord River will be transported back to Dragon’s Keep pending the trial by the unified council." Tara continued.

"Lady Adrienne will handle the transportation, just in case the Fae would try anything... and then return afterwards." Tara hesitated for a moment before giving that report.

"You do not have to be careful with your words, I am well aware...that where he is, she will be." Neveah assured Tara with a shrug.

"What now?" Tara asked.

"Now...we put everything back in it’s place, Fort Blazed...my father, and I also." Neveah murmured, clasping the pendant around her neck.
