Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 569: The Result ()
Neveah sat on a bench in the courtyard, just a moment ago, she felt she was being suffocated, choked on her own breath if she did not step out of the Dune Castle to catch a breath,
The courtyard was the farthest Neveah had been able to go before her legs threatened to give out, hence she sat here, her hands by her sides on the wooden bench.
Neveah’s gaze was faced downward, her feet were stained with mud and so were the tips of her loose satin breeches, and she shifted her feet slightly in the mud.
The garden was damp after the morning dew, she had walked through it with no shoes on and Neveah had not even taken note of that until now.
Rodvan’s news had finally settled, Kaideon’s whereabouts were unknown... his presence in Fort Blazed in itself was only an assumption, a conclusion chosen to avoid the possibility that...
"Scales..." Neveah murmured, shaking off her dark thoughts.
A quiet sigh escaped Neveah as she lifted her head up to the sky, squinting slightly,
The sun rays stung her sensitive eyes and Neveah stretched her hand out, placing her father’s pendant in the path of the sun rays, she watched the rays reflect off the metal and examined it closely.
"Veah...there you are." Xenon’s familiar voice called from behind Neveah.
His footsteps were perfectly silent as he walked over and took a seat beside Neveah on the bench,
Xenon did not say anything, he just sat there in silence, uncertain of what to say to Neveah at a time like this.
"Look at this, Xenon...is it not strange that the one thing my father would leave behind is this?" Neveah broke the silence first, shaking the pendant in the air.
Xenon’s gaze also moved to the pendant, but he did not have an answer for Neveah. Lord Kaideon’s intents could only be known to him and he was not here to explain it.
"Why did father leave this behind? It could not have left his person if it was not his intent..." Neveah murmured to herself thoughtfully,
"Was it to convey some kind of message to me? I barely know anything about my mother, what message would this leave exactly? Why send me this and not anything else?" Neveah asked in confusion.
Xenon sighed quietly, he had not come expecting Neveah to be in tears, she had never been such a woman.
Her pain was always communicated differently and Xenon could tell this time, it manifested just like this... she was thinking too much, giving herself a method to keep her mind occupied.
"Kaideon will be safe, Veah. He is amongst the fiercest of our kind." Xenon assured Neveah.
Neveah’s hand dropped to her side, she sucked in a deep breath, her eyes going closed in an attempt to calm herself.
"I know... and for that, I worry all the more...the more feared one is, the more desperate his enemy will be." Neveah admitted quietly.
"To be the Dune Lord’s opponent, it will take a lot more than just desperation." Xenon said with complete confidence.
"Veah...you left without a word, everyone is worried about you." Xenon added after a short moment.
"By everyone...you mean Jian." Neveah surmised, finally passing Xenon a look.
Neveah stored the pendant away, leaning back against the back rest of the wooden bench.
"Is it not a little too late to worry for me now?" Neveah asked quietly.
Xenon breathed a sigh, his arm went around Neveah’s shoulder, nudging her head gently to rest on his shoulder.
Neveah accepted the comfort Xenon offered, his scent calmed her in a way she could not have achieved on her own.
"Talk to me, my love. Tell me what burdens you." Xenon coaxed gently.
"I do not want to think about anything... not now, just... hold me. That way, the world will not feel like it is about to fall apart..." Neveah murmured, drawing the strength she needed.
The two remained that way for a short moment before Neveah spoke again.
"A shadow of him rests over you, by your own choice, you share in his guilt and so you hold me...so cautiously, so unlike you..." Neveah observed quietly.
"You will not be at ease, till you have spoken for him..." Neveah murmured.
"Veah..." Xenon breathed, his tone guilty.
"Tell me then, what you have to say for him... and why he will not come to me himself...it is better to relieve one burden, so my father’s well being is all I have to worry for." Neveah said quietly,
"He has not come to you because he fears you will not receive him..." Xenon answered Neveah’s question.
"And with Kaideon...he does not dare face you. You should not have had to wake up to this...not after the ordeal of last night." Xenon added in a low tone.
"My father’s predicament is no fault of yours...nor Jian’s, I am well aware as to where to direct my wrath." Neveah clarified.
"I am equally aware that he comes first to you, at all times...above all else. So you can just say what you need to, Xenon. And let us be done with it..." Neveah trailed off.
"It may have been so before you, but it is not so now. There is no who comes before and who comes after...there is only the two reasons, for whom I live." Xenon said in a serious tone.
"I will love you with or without Jian, Veah... this is a fact. The words I wish to say are not for his sake, but mine..."
"With Kaideon’s disappearance, I cannot predict what you might do next, but I know it will be rash and dangerous." Xenon said knowingly.
"You are accustomed to being independent... I know that, and I admire it." Xenon confessed.
"You can handle yourself just fine, we know this. But our predator side will not hear of it, in our eyes... you are the part of us that must be protected, at all times...from all things."
"But placing yourself in danger like that, without a word...you forget that your every decision now affects more than just you." Xenon murmured.
Neveah winced slightly, it was only now she contemplated perhaps her plan to keep it to herself was not okay.
And Xenon’s words were said to prevent a repeat of the same which Neveah could not deny she was likely to do.
"Jian and I...are very different in personality, but most importantly, the consequence attached to our position differs...Veah."
"If you wish to die... I am the one who will accompany you without hesitation..."
"But for Jian... for the Dragon King whose life determines the fate of the entire stronghold, he can never do as he pleases and we cannot afford to have him do as he pleases either."
"His life is not his own to just lose, and for this reason... your life must be the same."
"Because only when you live, can the King of the realm live." Xenon said meaningfully.
"He has bound you to him...with his scale in you, you now carry the responsibility of his life tied to yours...it is a great burden, but also the most certain way to protect you..."
"I do not approve of his means, but the result is what I also wish for...that you value your life, as much as you value ours." Xenon admitted.
