Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 545: Nothing To Fear ()
Neveah scanned through the shelves, fetching a study book her father had prepared for their lessons on dragon tongue.
It was stacked away at the very back and bound, it also had a very ordinary appearance so one would not be able to tell what kind of book it was.
There were no books that taught dragon tongue as it was passed down from parent to child amongst the dragon kind, however Kaideon had prepared a temporary study guide to aid Neveah in familiarising herself with the most significant words and their meanings.
However, the book itself was in Kaideon’s custody and he regulated Neveah’s use of it, so she did not get too dependent on the book but focused more on practicing for herself and gaining an understanding of it by hearing and assimilating.
This was another thing Neveah realized she had not paid as much attention to as she should have.
Neveah had never missed or skipped a lesson, neither did she slack on her private studies but the City Guard was always so busy and pressed with duties, she did not always have the time to put in the extra hours as she would have liked to.
Equally, Neveah had only begun to study dragon tongue a few months ago, she had been swamped with lessons on how to handle the City Guard and the human population as a dragon representative.
Dragon tongue was difficult, complicated, moreso than any language Neveah had seen or heard, but it was part of the culture of the Beasts of Asvar and if Neveah was to rule over The Dunes, the least she could do was adapt to dragon ways.
Neveah regretted she was yet to master it, it would have made this a whole lot easier on her. But now, Neveah was certain it would take all night.
Without further delay, Neveah sat at her father’s desk and began studying through the reports.

"As Lord of the light hall, it is my inability that has resulted in the breach. I accept full responsibility for it and any punishment Your Grace deems fitting for my crime." Lord River admitted.
Jian sat at the front of the hall in silence, watching the Lord of the light hall who knelt with his head bowed.
Though the Fae lord tried to maintain a bold front, it was difficult to achieve when he was visibly trembling from head to toe.
Jian could see Xenon had really shaken the Fae lord, which was expected as there was no one in the Stronghold who did not know to fear the Lord of Onyx Scales.
However, Jian could also see that Xenon had restrained himself, the Fae Lord was brazenly concealing information and Xenon had not yet forced the information out of him.
"That is not what I wish to hear, River. Your failings are obvious enough... why they have come to be, however is not as clear." Jian said. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"I have said not a word to you before this, you must understand why." Jian continued.
Jian had just silently watched the Fae lord for the past half hour, not a word said and in this time, the Fae lord had gone from visible tremors to clenching and unclenching his fists.
Perspiration also covered his forehead and Jian could hear his accelerated heart rate.
Jian himself had needed the time to contain his rage, that time had made all the difference between ripping off the Fae lord’s head on sight and actually hearing him out.
"Lord Xenon...has asked all of Your Grace’s questions." Lord River replied quietly, his tone trembling.
"You are not silly enough to believe that you can mislead my King’s guard. So I will hear your report just once... think clearly about the words you intend to say to me." Jian said, his tone blank and devoid of any emotion.
"I... the source of the breech traces back to some personnel who mishandled the polishing of the Quartrefoil. As such, a personnel change was conducted..." Lord River began to say but Jian interrupted him.
"And this was done after Cassian’s visit? With no reports of such made to the Dune Lord, who need I remind you is solely in charge of all affairs of personnel here in the light hall?" Jian asked, his tone unchanged.
"I... the situation was urgent and the barrier needed to be reinforced. Hence, I took the liberty... I deserve death." Lord River stuttered out.
"Very well. If you will not tell me what I need to know, that is fair enough. You are a Fae warrior, you must be assured in your ability to withhold your truth in all situations..." Jian said.
"I will accept the task you have given me and find out what has truly happened here in the past year, Lord River. In the meantime, you will wait in the dungeons, and prepare for a visit from my brother Menarx."
"When he arrives, you be sure to tell him exactly what you have said to Xenon and I." Jian reminded.
"Your Grace! I have spoken nothing but the truth! I swear it!" Lord River panicked at the mention of Menarx.
Jian tilted his head to the side, Xenon and Jian himself were not easy to deal with, but they were more likely to deal death in their rage.
However, Menarx was different...he was patient, careful and experienced enough to keep his victim at the very edge of life till he procured all the information he needed.
Most men feared death, but greater men, warriors knew that what was truly to be feared was being unable to die when you wished for it.
"Then you have nothing to fear." Jian said as he got up to his feet.
Jian strode past Lord River, stopping just as he got to the door.
"Make no mistakes, Lord River. You might be of Fae blood, but you have sworn fealty to me... Should I find you have had anything to do with the breach, I will regard you as a traitor to my kind.... and you know what fate awaits a traitor." Jian said and then he strode out.
