Chapter 544: Reports Of The Light Hall (Ch.545)

The hallways of the Dune Castle were quiet and there were only a few castle guards patrolling, all familiar faces to Neveah.

They bowed in greeting as Neveah passed by and Neveah responded with a nod.

Not many castle guards were permitted into the castle itself, Dune Castle was well protected in such a manner that only Kaideon’s most trusted could be granted entrance.

The castle also did not require so much protection from the castle guards, not when it was home to the fierce dune dragons.

Soon, the halls became completely empty when Neveah arrived to her father’s hall, this part of Dune Castle was especially off limits except by the Dune Lord’s summons.

On any other day, this part of the castle would still be lit up as the Dune Lord had a tendency to work late more often than not, a tendency the Dune Lord loathed Neveah had adopted, however it was much different today.

There was only a dim lighting provided by the glow orbs etched into the walls, just enough to keep the hallway illuminated.

Neveah soon arrived at her father’s study and she reached out to the door knob, placing a hand on it,

Neveah felt a familiar warmth surge beneath her palm, her father’s flame infused into the knob could tell apart intruders and would not allow the door to his study be accessed by the unfamiliar.

Neveah twisted slightly and the clicking of the locks echoed down the quiet hall as the doors came open.

Stepping into her father’s study, Neveah glanced around for a moment before she shut the door behind her and headed over to his desk.

The breach was recent enough, just two days before and Neveah knew with all the other events that happened, particularly involving her, her father had not had enough time to deliberate the situation at the light hall.

But the Dune Lord was always dutiful and thorough, Neveah did not doubt her father had filed a report somewhere or at least noted down some observations with the intent of looking further into them much later.

The Dune Lord knew the light hall especially well, if Xenon and Cassian had both sensed something was off on their visit, it could not have escaped her father’s notice.

Infact, Neveah believed her father would have noticed much more than anyone would be able to, it was only that the Dune Lord had a different approach, he never made a rash move or made his suspicions known before confirming them without reasonable doubt.

Especially not when the light hall had to do with the barrier as well as the Fae kind, another race that needed to be cautiously observed.

"Father said to keep an eye on the light hall till he returned, he would not mention that to me if he did not already know it would become a concern the very moment he left..."

"He did not try to prevent Jian or Xenon from looking into it either, he must have entrusted it to them before he left, father never leaves any lose ends." Neveah murmured to herself as she searched through her father’s desk.

"The only reason father would not handle this in person is because he must believe what findings Jian and Xenon would make would answer his questions...fill in the blanks, and provide a different perspective he could not have found on his own..." Neveah continued.

"At the same time, the light hall is a power house, and the current discord between the Fae and Dragon Kind has made it even more volatile."

"Even the dragons have to be careful in their dealings as the critical role played by the fairies of the light hall in keeping the barrier strong cannot be ignored...if Lord River is hiding something, it is unlikely the Fae council are unrelated." Neveah considered.

There was nothing related to the light hall on Kaideon’s desk and Neveah sighed, stepping back, she glanced around the study before she turned around her father’s desk to the wall behind his chair.

Neveah scoured through the shelf where she knew her father filed his most important reports, the shelf was hidden away in a secret compartment of the wall, and only the dune enforcers had access to it, or her father’s study in his absence.

It took only a short search to find the segment for the reports on the light hall and at the very top, a small parchment that was still unsealed and only binded by a string stood out.

It was clearly a recent addition as it was not neatly stacked as the rest of the reports were, it was also just a small parchment and not an entire file.

Neveah picked it out, flipping it open and sure enough, her father’s writing covered the parchment in ink that was yet to dry properly.

There were short notes made on the parchment, not a concise report but Neveah knew they were recent observations recorded by her father and she immediately read through the contents.

’The central piece of the light hall, The Quartrefoil, recast a year ago as a part of the requested restructuring for channeling magic ability.’

’Uneven light distribution... strange reflection on the right angle.’

’Personnel involved in restructuring and import of channeling gems...’

It was bits and pieces of information, not fully put together and Neveah could tell her father intended to look further into it on his return, and also needed Jian and Xenon to make their own findings before sharing his suspicions.

As Dune Lord, he could not pass on half baked suspicions to his King.

It was bothersome to Neveah just how much she still did not know about the workings of the Dune Castle, she had been so focused on being the voice of the people, she had neglected her dragon side and the true duties of the heir.

Neveah fetched the other reports on the light hall, there were piles of them dating back for a few decades and Neveah placed the heap on the table, mentally prepared for a long night.

Neveah unsealed the first file, realizing the official files stored away were not written in the common tongue, as added protection for vital information, Neveah guessed.

The files were all written in dragon tongue and though Neveah did not have a full grasp of the language, she had studied it for long enough to pick up on a few things.

However, to read through piles of files, Neveah would need more than her limited knowledge.
