Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 543: Reports Of The Light Hall ()
"I am not one to believe in coincidences or accord the benefit of the doubt. Neither do I trust the absoluteness of acclaimed loyalty... the Lord of the light hall is no exception."
"But decades of service well considered, having an audience with Jian in person and a chance to explain whatever reasoning lies behind his failings is the greatest respect I can offer." Xenon said in a dark tone.
"I cannot fathom Lord River would act as such, father holds him in high regard... despite father’s prejudice to the Fae kind."
"He was even assigned to bestow a name on Uncle Orin’s first born son...if there is something to be said, for what purpose would he even withhold it?" Neveah wondered aloud, her brows furrowed into a small frown.
She just could not understand what was going on with the Fae of the light hall and her father had done a great deal of damage control in the past year, yet it seemed there had been no notable improvements.
"Even if I were to believe it might be nothing...that it might even be unrelated to the state of the barrier, the Lord of the light hall is deflecting and that is not a good look."
"If there is nothing to hide, the stories should match, and if it does not...then someone will have to answer for it." Xenon said,
"The Lord of the light hall has been trustworthy for centuries, he has never proven otherwise...but with this event, it is difficult not to question his intentions... hence Jian’s wrath."
"And this is not even the first time." Xenon murmured in displeasure.
"A year ago...there were troubles in the light hall then also." Neveah said with a nod.
"Kaideon quelled the situation appropriately at the time, but it seems there is more to it than we have realized. Jian wishes to have a private audience with Lord River, I will not intervene." Xenon revealed.
Neveah frowned slightly, she had also found the depreciation of the barrier extremely disturbing, especially after her father had made severe changes in the past year to restore the barrier to it’s original strength.
The sudden breach was one thing, what was so difficult about providing a clear and concise report of how it happened? For a barrier they had reinforced for centuries?
"Father also visited the light hall after the breach, I believe he was accompanied by Uncle Rodvan."
"Though the past two days have been hectic, father must have written a report on his findings also, perhaps comparing that to yours and that of Cassian’s will make the situation a bit more clear?" Neveah suggested.
"Before father left, he was concerned about the state of the light hall... I see why now." Neveah murmured.
"Kaideon would indeed have made things easier, but his close ties with Lord River is why he has been intentionally exempted from the recent investigation." Xenon admitted.
Neveah nodded in understanding, it was considerate of King Jian to not have her father try one who he had shared a close relationship with for centuries.
That would be placing him in a difficult position, besides, there was a more urgent mission he had undertaken.
"I may not be as experienced as my father, but I am familiar with the affairs of the light hall. I will fetch father’s report...from this event and even a year ago and take a look at it in respect to your findings and that of Cassian."
"Whatever is off, I will report accordingly." Neveah decided. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"I will send you back then, it is not safe for you to be about by yourself." Xenon said but Neveah shook her head to dissuade him.
"The light hall is more important and I know my way around Dune City, I will avoid the crowded streets and will go straight back to the castle, no stops." Neveah assured.
"The flight patrol is out also, father has ordered them to have an eye on me always, they will swoop down faster than anyone can even think of hurting me...with father away, the life of the heir is all that more precious, you know." Neveah added with a small smile.
Xenon chuckled quietly at Neveah’s subtle brag.
"You should stay by Jian’s side, he might need you...or the other way round if you eventually run out of patience... and it looks like you soon will." Neveah said to Xenon.
Xenon’s lips twitched slightly, but he nodded, leaning down to place a kiss on Neveah’s forehead.
"You be safe, my love." Xenon murmured tenderly.
Neveah headed down the wall of the light hall, glancing over to the doors leading into the light hall, her brows furrowed in concern.
King Jian’s private audience with Lord River had already gone on for a short time and it did not seem like it would come to an end anytime soon.
Whatever they were discussing, Neveah could sense King Jian was getting increasingly aggravated as time went on, the slight changes in the temperature around the light hall was a tell tale sign.
But Neveah could picture his perfectly calm expression, even at this moment. King Jian’s emotions never reflected on his face, that was the kind of man he was.
It was strange, the thought of King Jian being in such a terrible mood equally aggravated Neveah and she had to suck in a deep breath to shake off the brewing anger.
Matters of the Asvarian Beacon and the light hall were extremely delicate, and with more than a few centuries backing it, it was best handled by the dragon lords in person.
The best Neveah could do was provide as much insight into the situation as she could from her end.
_______________
It was already dark when Neveah arrived back at the Dune Castle.
The castle guards on night patrol were already out and about and Neveah rode into the gates, dismounting her horse at the doors of the castle.
Neveah headed straight for her father’s study to begin her investigation.
