Chapter 47: In the Face of Death

Red realized it was not going to be easy to hit the head. The Dire Wolf King had a better perception than the ordinary wolf. He needed the timing if he wanted to hit the head, a distraction.

But that was the problem; the time was not on his side. He only had a little over twenty seconds before the Infernal Berserk expired.

Once the skill expired, he was useless. Not just his health would go down to one, but his stamina as well.

On top of that, he had limited spears as well. He only had three spears to throw, and he must be smart about it.

As his mind was riddled with thoughts, the Dire Wolf King’s gaze fell on him. He froze under the fierce yet intelligent gaze.

The beast’s gaze seemed to assess him. The spear throw might warrant the beast’s attention.

Fortunately, the hobs took this chance to attack the beast, drawing the attention away from him.

Red’s eyes lit up. This was the timing he was looking for, a needed distraction.

At first, he was thinking of targeting the belly, hoping his Bleed skill would be triggered. But he was presented with the chance.

He attempted a second throw, still aiming at the head. He thought the spear would hit the head this time, but the Dire Wolf King surprised him again. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

It raised its paw and deflected the spear. The Dire Wolf King didn’t even look toward the spear. It knew the spear was coming and reflected it with such precision.

Right after that, the Dire Wolf King gave a glance at him, smirking. He was sure the Dire Wolf King was mocking him.

It was such a cheap provocation, but of course, he didn’t fall for it. The gap between them was too big. Furthermore, it was nothing compared to what he had gone through.

’Or maybe it’s not as smart as he thought.’

The Chief and the other hobs were ganging on it. They could not immediately kill it, but the wounds inflicted by them were piling up on its body.

In that situation, it still split the attention on him just to mock him. It might be intelligence, but it was still shallow, just like the goblins.

Being left alone, the Dire Wolf King was pushed back. The tide of the battle had turned toward their favor. But it was no pushover either.

It shot fire from its mouth, fiercer and bigger than the ordinary dire wolf. It burnt two hobs at once, but the Chief managed to land a fatal hit on it as well. A clean hit to the side of its neck.

The Dire Wolf King swayed from the impact. Red took the chance and landed a hit on the Dire Wolf King’s side belly. It growled in pain as it was pushed to the side.

It no longer paid attention to him when a bigger threat loomed over it. But the moment the spear hit it, it turned toward him.

Red didn’t understand why the Dire Wolf King got distracted toward him when there were six hobs and the Chief around it. That gave a chance for the other hobs to approach it, landing a few more slashes and thrusts.

Knowing the Dire Wolf King was quite perceptive, he switched positions. He still had around eighteen seconds left before the Infernal Berserk expired. He used the three seconds to get into a new position.

The Goblin Warrior regained their confidence as the wounds piled up on the giant wolf. They joined in, but they were more like punching bags. Two of them died from a single swat from the Dire Wolf King, and four of them were burned to a crisp.

The Chief landed another hit on the fierce beast while it was distracted. It was a hit to the head, and that shook the Dire Wolf King, creating a big wound on its head.

But the Dire Wolf King also reacted quicker and managed to land a hit on the Chief that sent him flying onto one of the burning buildings.

That was when Red struck again, a spear pierced through the Dire Wolf King’s right side of the neck. That sent it falling to the left side, which gave an opening. The Goblin Warriors jumped and stabbed whatever they had in their hands at its lower belly.

The smarter goblins would immediately go away after landing their strikes. The dumber ones remained, kept stabbing the beast that was multiple times bigger than them.

As a result, six goblins were swept. Four of them died instantly, and the Dire Wolf King snapped one of the goblins into its mouth. It seemed eating the goblin gave it more power as it swept the two hobgoblins, sending them flying.

Red weighted the spear in his hand, the last spear. On top of that, he only had around twelve seconds before the skill was over. He had the new skill that he had just learned, but he was afraid to use it.

He had an understanding of what the skill did just by the name. The concern was that he might be linked to the Shaman’s sudden disappearance if he suddenly used the magic skill. Unless it was necessary, it was better not to use it in front of the Chief.

The Dire Wolf King was chewing half of the goblin in its mouth. Red tried to switch position again, but that was when he found it had its eyes on him.

As if it regained strength after eating half of the goblin, it ran toward him. Red was caught off guard, not expecting the Dire Wolf King to charge him when the hobs and the goblin were attacking it.

The Dire Wolf King totally ignored everyone around it and came for him. Blood dripped from its neck and lower belly; it was apparent it was dying, yet it was going after him for some unknown reason.

It was so fast that it quickly shortened the distance. Just in three seconds, the Dire Wolf King was ten steps away from him. It would reach him with just a single leap.

Red froze in the face of the Dire Wolf’s fierce killing intent. He had experienced this once. It was on the awakening day when the Shaman put a curse on him. However, there was a big gap between the two.

The Shaman’s stuff was more bearable, but not this one. It was as if there was an invisible force that got a grip on his body.

What he feared happened: the Dire Wolf King leaped toward him.
