Chapter 482: A Thought (Ch.483)

"To begin with...hug me?" Xenon suggested, a beguiling smile on his lips.

Xenon’s blatant request was so typical of him that Neveah’s lips twitched slightly in amusement.

"I can do that." Neveah conceded,

A yelp of surprise escaped Neveah as Xenon pulled her into his arms before she had even gotten the words out.

Xenon nuzzled his head into Neveah’s neck and inhaled deeply, a sigh of relief following after.

"The scent of you... I have missed it dearly. I have missed you, my little wolf." Xenon murmured, his voice muffled by Neveah’s hair.

Neveah just remained still and stunned, it was hard to actually move with how tight Xenon’s hold was, allowing just a fraction of space so Neveah could breathe and nothing more.

"Xenon...you can let go now." Neveah whispered slowly when Xenon’s hug carried on for far longer than she had expected. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"In a moment." Xenon said, still holding onto Neveah like his life depended on it.

Xenon was so close, Neveah could feel his heartbeat and she could hear the uneven pace of his heart, and his quiet, shuddering breaths.

They spoke more words than Xenon could ever hope to say himself and Neveah swallowed whatever protest she had in mind knowing Xenon was being generous settling for a hug.

Xenon...he needed this moment and Neveah knew she could not bear to deprive him of it, she would not even try.

It had been an entire year, Neveah admitted she also needed this moment.

It took a short while for Xenon’s heart rate to return to it’s original pace and it was only then Neveah spoke up again.

"Xenon... I am not going to disappear if you let go, you know." Neveah said quietly, her tone conveying subtle reassurance.

She was not certain why Xenon’s breaths trembled, but she knew her words would provide him comfort.

"I hope not." Xenon replied, placing a kiss on Neveah’s neck.

Xenon reluctantly pulled away, but still kept Neveah in arms length with his hands on her shoulders.

For a short time, he just stared into Neveah’s eyes, his gaze searching as though looking for something in particular.

"Veah... I cannot stay, this time. I will have to leave the dunes by dawn, there is a lot that I must see to on this trip." Xenon revealed to Neveah.

Neveah nodded slowly in understanding and Xenon sucked in a deep breath.

"I would rather you get mad at me for having only a single day after an entire year... I would rather you demand for me to stay." Xenon murmured quietly.

"But you know I would not." Neveah replied.

Xenon did know that, Neveah was not like any other woman he had ever met, was that not why he had fallen for her?

"What I am trying to say is... I want to be a part of your day, even if only for today. So do not be in a hurry to leave me." Xenon asked hopefully.

Neveah thought over it for a moment.

"I have to return to city guard though, I am still on duty..." Neveah began to say but trailed off at the look in Xenon’s eyes.

"Come with me then?" Neveah adjusted.

Xenon nodded without hesitation and Neveah shook her head in amusement.

Neveah led the way back to the castle gates where her horse was still waiting, grazing on the trimmed grass at the sides of the path.

"Caleb, please fetch another horse." Neveah called to Caleb who nodded and hurried off to carry out his order.

"You know, the horse he is to bring us would not be of much use." Xenon pointed out after a short moment of silence and watching Neveah slowly stroke her horse.

Neveah raised a brow, glancing over at Xenon questioningly.

"This is not Dragon Keep Xenon. The city is just beyond the castle, flight does not have to be the first choice." Neveah replied.

"Well, that is not it. I am not very good with horses." Xenon revealed.

"Not very good...as in you do not know how to ride one?" Neveah asked sarcastically.

However, the smile dropped from her face when Xenon nodded slowly to indicate Neveah’s words were infact what he had meant.

"You cannot be serious. You have lived for how long exactly? And you have never learnt to ride?" Neveah doubted, shaking her head slowly.

Xenon shrugged casually, he did not appear very bothered by it.

"I am very serious. I do not know how to ride one because I have never had any reason to or any need for another means of travel either... I do not know any dragons that ride often." Xenon defended himself easily.

Neveah did understand that dragons were naturally afforded their own means of transportation, however it did not justify a man having no knowledge of horse riding in the present age.

"They may not ride often, but they do know how to ride, Xenon. In this, I think you are the only one." Neveah deadpanned, her lips twitching in amusement.

"The beasts never come near me... as you must have noticed." Xenon pointed out.

It was then Neveah glanced between her horse and Xenon, realising all this while, her horse seemed to have a wary gaze fixed on Xenon.

If Neveah had not been stroking the horse and offering comfort, Neveah could tell her horse would already have bolted in the opposite direction the closer Xenon got to it.

Neveah paused for a moment, lowering her head to hide the smile on her lips as it dawned on her, she had grown to be so accustomed to Xenon, she no longer took notice of how terrifying his natural aura was.

It was something she had originally known so clearly. His aura could have anyone trembling or shuddering long before he made his presence known.

Neveah had always been wary of Xenon’s aura herself in their first few meetings and would take hours every morning building her mental strength before she ventured to Mount Edar for her duties.

But now, it occurred to Neveah that the only way Xenon could ever have her shuddering...

’Stop right there!’ Neveah mentally exclaimed, killing the thought before it could even form.

And as Neveah glanced over at Xenon, she was astonished to see he had moved and was now right infront of her.

Neveah’s horse also took notice of Xenon a moment later and bolted off just as Neveah had assumed, so Neveah was left staring up into Xenon’s eyes.

"The thought... that just crossed your mind, what was it?" Xenon asked, tilting his head to the side as Neveah’s eyes widened.
