Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 481: Convenient Or Not ()
Cassian lowered his head in guilt, he did not say a single word but Jian already had all the answers he was looking for.
"All five of you then, and throw in Everon as well." Jian surmised.
It was not hard to figure his brothers out, he had known them for far longer than most people had even lived.
Yet Jian guessed he must truly have had his mind clouded, to not have noticed what they were up to until now.
"Jian, I am willing to admit that it was wrong of us to keep you in the dark and bring you out here against your will..." Cassian began to say but was cut off again.
"Wrong is an understatement. You have directly disobeyed my orders... I do not favour insubordination." Jian made clear, his tone eerily calm.
Cassian breathed a heavy sigh, running a hand through his hair, he bit down on his lip, a habit of his whenever he was in a struggle to restrain himself but was losing patience.
"It is a good thing we are more than just your subordinates then, is it not? What in the world do you think you are getting mad about, Jian?!"
"That we care enough about you to stick our necks out for your well being even when you might still be the very one to chop our heads off?!" Cassian hissed.
Jian’s brows narrowed slightly, rage surging through his veins. His neck twitched to the side as his predator rose to the surface, begging to be let loose and show Cassian his place.
But Jian still maintained a perfectly calm countenance, watching Cassian without the slightest change in his expression.
"Lose that attitude with me, Cassian." Jian warned darkly.
"How about the fact that my brothers would dare conspire against me? The very ones whom I trust more than my own life..." Jian asked, his tone somehow still calm but far more terrifying.
Jian had not moved from where he sat, but his aura had taken a dive and Cassian slowly retreated, though Cassian’s gaze still did not back down.
"How about that you know the darkness of my past and how I do not wish to relieve anything I have been through?" Jian asked again, his words coming out in a low, animalistic growl.
"How about the fact that my brothers deem it fit to have complete strangers pick and prod at my thoughts? Waltz through my head?" Jian asked for the third time.
"How about the fact that you know how much I detest magic. How dare you conceive that I will let it be used on me?"
" I could be at my death and I would jump right into it than have anything to do with magic... You are my brother, you know this! You know me!" Jian hissed.
Cassian halted his retreat, no amount of distance could save him from Jian if Jian did lose his calm and Cassian knew it.
"Precisely because I know you so well is why we knew there was no other way to get you out here but this! Precisely because we are your brothers is why we will ensure you are in good health, whether it be what you desire or not!" Cassian held his ground.
Cassian sucked in a breath to calm himself, he did understand Jian’s stance...how could he not understand it?
"How could I not know your heart? I know what you think of magic. I know just how much it has taken away from you." Cassian began in a much calmer, almost pleading tone.
Mother, Father, brother... Jian had lost them all to magic in one way or the other.
If Jian had the power to do so, he would obliterate every ounce of magic from the earth itself, Cassian knew this better than anyone.
But in his rage and malice, Cassian knew Jian just would not acknowledge the good magic had done them also.
"Is the very barrier that protects the entire stronghold not a manifestation of magic? Is every Asvarian beacon not kept at it’s brightest glow by this same magic?" Cassian reminded.
Jian growled beneath his breath, turning his gaze away from Cassian adamantly.
"Jian, magic is a force of nature that is a part of all who live and breathe upon the earth, whether we want it to be or not." Cassian continued.
"There are the times when it is a force of good, and often times it causes great destruction and leaves everything shattered and irreparable in it’s wake." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Magic could be a lot of things, Jian. But this time, if it can help you get through this... I will be damned to the depths of hell before I let you muscle your way out of this." Cassian made clear.
"Listen, Jian...we are not your brothers only when it is convenient for you but even...no, especially when it is not convenient for you."
"We are not your brothers because we abide by your every will like everyone else would, but because we will always choose you... even when your enemy is your ownself." Cassian said earnestly.
"We have fought hundreds of battles by your side, more than any of us could hope to count but there has not been a single time we have been as helpless as in this past year."
"We do not know how to fight this by your side, Jian. This is the first time in centuries you are faced with a battle that your king’s guard cannot fight with you... but you cannot ask us to stand by and watch you drown in an abyss of your own making."
"We let that happen once with Xenon, and decades of regrets could not make up for that failure." Cassian said, his tone pained.
Jian grumbled inaudibly, staring out ahead of him. He remained quiet for a long moment.
"Fine, what are your arrangements?" Jian finally asked.
"Xenon went ahead to the White Dunes, he will make it known he is passing through on a mission. This will provide us a cover..." Cassian began his report immediately.
