Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 408: Family ()
Darkness, that familiar darkness...it had been a short time since Neveah had felt it’s chilling cold grip, though not nearly long enough.
"There you go... running away again. All you ever do is run, what can you achieve with such a weak mind?" That strange voice echoed in Neveah’s consciousness, piercing through the haze of sleep.
"Who are you?... What are you?!" Neveah thought back to the voice in confusion.
"Who am I? That is for you to find out... Omega..." The voice whispered hauntingly.

Neveah’s eyes snapped open, a quiet gasp escaping her as she glanced around her dark room .
"Veah...is everything okay?" Menarx murmured from where he lay beside Neveah, his voice still deepened from sleep.
"I... I’m fine, Narx." Neveah replied, still breathing heavily.
Neveah’s breathing had not calmed when a sharp pain shot through her, beginning from her gut like she had just been stabbed.
Neveah gritted her teeth to hold in the cry of pain that threatened to make it’s way out, knowing it would only alarm an already worried Menarx.
"Your heart rate just accelerated rapidly..." Menarx pointed out, sitting up on the bed. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
He reached out, wiping the perspiration on Neveah’s forehead with his sleeve, his brows furrowed in concern.
"It’s just a nightmare, go back to sleep. I’ll just be out in the washroom, some cold water would do me good." Neveah murmured as she got off the bed and headed to the washroom.
Neveah gritted her teeth as she got into the washroom, shutting the door behind her and shielding herself from Menarx’s inquiring gaze.
Neveah turned on the faucet to let water fill up the bath, the sound of the running water loud enough to cover up her quiet gasp of pain as she crumbled down to the ground, panting and gasping.
Sharp flashes of pain wracked through Neveah, her muscles spasming and Neveah clung to the side of the bath tub as waves of pain rammed into her, over and over again.
’It’s the mate bond...it was triggered again. Like it did when you kissed Xenon.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
"I thought we were over this..." Neveah thought to her wolf, as she felt the sudden urge to hurl out the contents of her dinner but held it in.
’Our bond with Menarx is not complete, with only the first merging done, it is still no match for the mate bond with Alessio. I suspect... Alessio did something...’ Neveah’s wolf revealed in worry.
"It would be unlike him not to send a gift accompanying his letter. To think I find myself at his mercy even now." Neveah murmured as she timed her breathing, chuckling in derision at her own fate.
’Should we tell Menarx?’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
"No...there are battles we fight together, and there are those I must face alone." Neveah thought, leaning back against the tub.

"This is your decision?" Kaideon asked Neveah as they walked down the hallway together.
It was late morning now and Kaideon had returned from bidding his farewell to King Jian, Neveah awaited him in the second level from where they headed to the landing platform together.
It had only been a short time spent on the highest level but Neveah was not even surprised that King Jian had already tattled to Kaideon that Neveah and Menarx would leave for the dwarven outpost on this same day.
"Yes, it was." Neveah replied
"Some time away from the tussles of the Keep will do you good. " Kaideon agreed.
"I am sorry I chose to go elsewhere and not the White Dunes." Neveah apologized knowing Kaideon had been hurt by her choice though he did not show it.
"I still want you to come with me to the White Dunes, but I understand and I will let it go just this one time. Veah, if there ever is a repeat of an incident such as this one, I will not let it slide... I will take you away, Menarx or no Menarx." Kaideon made clear.
"I understand." Neveah said with a quiet sigh.
"It will be a long flight back to the White Dunes, you will arrive the dwarven post long before I arrive back home, I already do not feel at ease leaving you. You must take care of yourself, and I hope you will write to me." Kaideon said.
"I will, as often as I can." Neveah assured.
Kaideon stopped, turning to Neveah, he took off the pendant he always wore, the one that had Neveah’s mother’s name engraved on it and handed it to Neveah.
"But... this is all you have of her..." Neveah protested but Kaideon shook his head slightly.
"I have always had her in here... and in here." Kaideon replied, pointing to his head and then his heart.
"But you have been deprived of so much, there is so much you did not get the chance to know... I cannot make up for what you have lost, but I hope this piece of your mother..."
"This piece of both your parents, albeit little can bring you comfort in turbulent times and remind you that you are loved." Kaideon said earnestly.
Neveah glanced down at the pendant, turning it over, her thumb grazed over the engraved letters, a sob crept up her throat but Neveah forced it down.
"I will take good care of it." Neveah promised.
"Veah, before this time, I have not left the White Dunes in decades. The troll golem may have been an unwanted situation, but I am glad it went past my Dunes."
"If I had not sensed it, I would never have come to Keep Skies and perhaps..." Kaideon trailed off, not daring to imagine the scenario where he had not found his daughter.
"I believe you would still have found me. You never gave up on my mother, you would have found your way to me one way or the other and if not, then I would have come to you,"
" I do not know much about family, but I hear they always find their way back to each other." Neveah murmured, resting her forehead against Kaideon’s chest.
