Chapter 407: I Will Trust You (Ch.407)

"Love, you’ve been awfully quiet." Menarx pointed out, stroking Neveah’s hair in calming motions.

It had been a while since Kaliana had taken her leave and Menarx had come in a short time ago, having rounded up his duties for the day.

He had come in to meet Neveah exactly as Kaliana had left her, seated on her bed, quietly in thought and Menarx got in bed beside her, adjusting Neveah’s position so she now lay on his chest.

The steady beats of Menarx’s heart eased Neveah in ways nothing else ever had and it was a much welcome feeling.

"What happened...with Kalia?" Menarx asked when Neveah said nothing in response to his first statement.

"We agreed to disagree." Neveah replied quietly.

"Well, you have done enough, you gave it a chance. No one expects anymore from you." Menarx assured.

Neveah was not sure if Menarx’s understanding was what she wanted at this moment, it only made her feel even more frustrated.

"Jian and Imagor are both your brothers, I do know how much you love them, you cherish them more than your own life." Neveah murmured quietly, her voice slightly muffled by Menarx’s chest.

"As I do you." Menarx reminded.

"I know... I know Narx, I just feel I keep placing you in a complicated position and I hate it, even so... I just can’t force it." Neveah said honestly.

"Veah, my brothers and I have been through a lot together, we have faced the world and even beyond it side by side for centuries. We won’t fall apart, ever...do not fear that you will come between us."

"It is not your responsibility to preserve our bond by sacrificing your own feelings, I did not choose a woman who would conform to my own decisions, I chose Neveah who does things her own way, according to her own decisions, that is the woman I know and love." Menarx asserted.

"Jian, Imagor and Kaliana have done you wrong and I know you Veah, the only reason you are hurt by this is because you do care for them. I am the one putting you in a complicated position, between your principles and my family." Menarx said with a sigh.

They fell into silence for a short while before Menarx spoke up again.

"Speaking of family, Kaideon returns to the white dunes tomorrow, I’ll accompany you to see him off." Menarx said.

"Is it already time?" Neveah asked, sighing quietly as she recalled it truly was a day before Kaideon had said he would return home.

"Narx, I want to leave Dragon Keep." Neveah said out of the blue.

Neveah felt Menarx stiffen up beneath her, she could even sense his panic.

"Veah... what can I do? Just tell me what I can do...?" Menarx asked anxiously but Neveah quickly adjusted her words.

"Narx, I’m not going to the white dunes with Kaideon. I want to leave Dragon Keep with you." Neveah adjusted.

Menarx sat up, glancing over at Neveah in confusion.

"I’m not asking you to leave with me forever or abandon your duties Narx, I would never. I just want some time away from everything here, a few weeks...a month, a few months, just to think it over and decide on what I truly want."

"Because right now, you are the only thing I want in this Dragon Keep Narx and while you are more than enough, for you and for me... I have to want more." Neveah said.

"Whatever you need, love. Where do you wish to go?" Menarx asked.

Neveah thought over it for a moment, she did not know so many places in the stronghold, even if she wanted to leave, she was not certain where she wanted to go.

"You were assigned to quell the unrest from the hidden city and destroy the adamantium mines, had it not been for my disappearance, you would still be there." Neveah reminded.

"I do not have to see to it in person. Lodenworth and Cassian will take over." Menarx replied.

"Narx, how well do the dragons know the hidden city? Can they be sure to find the location?" Neveah asked

Menarx thought over it for a moment.

"This has only happened because we failed to conquer the hidden city the last time and left the dwarves with their secrets as part of the peace treaty, the dwarf king is so certain we cannot get to him hence he disregards dragon supremacy."

"While we can force him to surrender once again by crumbling all the dwarven outposts and cutting off their supply routes, if we do not deal a severe enough warning this time, he will only repeat this madness is no distant time. This is why we must find the hidden city, at any cost." Menarx explained the situation to Neveah.

"Cassian and Lodenworth will not be able to find it in time, because none of you have been to the hidden city before...but I have. The hidden city... I will give it to you, Narx." Neveah said in a serious tone.

"What do you need?" Menarx asked,

He did not doubt Neveah’s words for even a second, it was in these little things that Neveah was assured Menarx was the one for her.

"You... the fourth squadron, that much is enough. We will handle the hidden city, that is where I wish to go with you." Neveah said.

"Keila and Lodenworth will be there, are you sure it will be okay? I can have the fourth squadron replaced with the second squadron." Menarx offered.

"The second squadron have their hands full with the Fort Blazed situation. Lodenworth commands the fourth squadron, I hold no hard feelings towards him." Neveah assured.

"It will be a battlefield, Veah. There might be harsh conditions, you will have to trust them with your life..." Menarx added in concern.

"If I should or not trust a dragon lord my dragon already trusts? These are some of my better concerns in my lifetime, Narx. Because there’s you in the chaotic mix, I’ll be fine. You can trust everyone else, I will just trust you." Neveah decided.
