Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 402: Scapegoat ()
Neveah was tossed back, crashing harshly into a pillar.
"Veah!" Menarx exclaimed, he moved in a flash and was by Neveah’s side the next moment.
Neveah groaned in pain, a ringing sound echoing through her head as she struggled up to her feet, leaning against Menarx for support.
"That was one hell of a consequence." Neveah grumbled, she lifted a hand to her head, not surprised to feel a sticky substance she knew was her blood.
"You’re hurt..." Menarx asserted in a low tone.
"She’s quite powerful." Neveah admitted, patting Menarx’s arm reassuringly.
Neveah spared a glance around the hall, realizing she, Davina, Lord Rodrick and a few others standing too close were the only ones who had been hit by Lady Adrienne’s outburst.
The rest of the council, the king’s guard and King Jian himself were completely untouched, though Neveah had a feeling King Jian would still be untouched even if he had been as close to Adrienne as she had.
Meanwhile, Lady Adrienne was doubled over on the ground where Neveah had left her, she was perfectly still, not moving an inch and Neveah knew why.
Without the suppressing ring, there was a thick aura of magic in the air, Neveah could imagine what Adrienne hid behind her hair.
Neveah steadied herself, standing up straight.
"Lady Adrienne, would you care to lift your head?" Neveah asked.
Lady Adrienne did not move, or react to Neveah’s words at all though everyone knew she had heard them.
"Fairy, you can lift your head now. We already saw." King Jian pointed out.
It was a calm statement but the command in the dragon king’s tone could not be mistaken for a request.
Lady Adrienne slowly lifted her head up and sure enough, her eyes glowed a bright yellow, a glow that was impossible to miss.
And as Davina sat up slowly from where she had crashed, pointing an accusing finger at Lady Adrienne, Neveah knew her job was done.
Adrienne had been forced out of Davina’s mind in that sudden moment, and she would not get the chance to tamper with Davina’s memories. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"She was in my head! It was all her!" Davina accused, breaking down into sobs afterwards.
"I have heard some fairies possess rare gifts that give them the ability to even control the will of others, we have seen it once used on Estelle and it is most common amongst royal born fairies."
"As I have said, there indeed will be a trial today and I’m certain we can all see who is in the best position to stand trial." Neveah chipped in.
"She’s lying... Your Grace, you have to believe me!" Adrienne pleaded pitifully.
"Your magic lashed out like that...it could only mean you have been using it all along, right here in my keep... right before my eyes...if nothing else, you have blatantly defied my laws and the laws that guide my keep..." King Jian trailed off, a dark chuckle escaping him.
It sounded more like a snarl than it did a chuckle, Neveah knew the former was far more likely than the latter.
"Your Grace... I... I meant no harm..." Adrienne stuttered, grasping at straws.
"Before the council, you will confess to how long you have been up to this, how much you have done and all that you had a hand in." King Jian made clear.
"Your Grace, there is nothing else... I swear it! I only wanted to teach that attendant a lesson! I would never defy you!" Lady Adrienne pleaded.
"It’s Lady Neveah to you, girl!" Menarx snarled at Lady Adrienne’s words.
"Your Grace, please...all I wanted was to be by your side! I have no bad intentions for you or your dynasty... please..." Lady Adrienne sobbed
"Listen...you can say it now or I will have Menarx tear it out of you, it is your own choice." King Jian replied, leaning back into his throne.
"You can begin from after you stole my molt scales." King Jian added.
King Jian’s words surprised the council, especially Neveah who glanced over at the dragon king with wide eyes.
Even the king’s guard stared at King Jian in surprise, all except Lord Imagor and Lady Kaliana.
It dawned on Neveah at that moment that they three had long known the true culprit behind what had happened with the molt scales and up until this moment, Neveah’s name was never cleared of it.
"Veah..." Menarx called warily, reaching for Neveah but Neveah shrugged his hand off as she moved forwards.
"She was the one who stole the molt scales... your grace knew this all along ...? " Neveah asked slowly.
King Jian glanced at Neveah, his expression was as blank and unreadable as always but he did not deny Neveah’s claim, which meant he did know.
"And all along, you let me bear the stigma of that crime?! And Lord Imagor and Kaliana knew also?" Neveah snarled.
"Veah, there was no use bringing it up..." Lady Kaliana began to explain, walking over to Neveah but Neveah lifted a hand to stop her.
"No use?! Because you and your child lived, my honor and my name was no one’s concern?! The injustice and scorn I was put to?! The fact that everyone still believes I stole it?!" Neveah hissed.
"Neveah, do not throw a tantrum." King Jian warned.
Neveah shook her head in disbelief, laughing quietly to herself.
"A tantrum...when I speak up for myself, it is a tantrum...it is only fair if I take the fall... I am the only one suitable to be used as the scapegoat, I see how it is..." Neveah murmured, nodding in understanding.
"Veah..." Lady Kaliana tried.
"Stay away from me!" Neveah warned fiercely.
She stormed over to the platform and snatched the parchment from Cassian’s hand that was Alessio’s supposed note and then she stepped down.
"This belongs to me. If I may be excused from your royal presence, Your Grace?" Neveah requested but she did not wait for an answer.
"Veah please..." Menarx tried to calm Neveah but she was not having it, she stormed past him and out of the audience hall, slamming the doors shut behind her.
