Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 401: Damn The Consequences ()
Lord Rodrick complied, walking over to a visibly anxious Davina, his gaze narrowed in concern and confusion.
"Davie... what is going on here? Did you really try to hurt Lady Neveah? You are so fond of her, why would you want to do such a thing? How would you even know to contact dwarves?" Lord Rodrick asked in a helpless tone.
"I... I did it, I did it." Davina mumbled quietly, admitting guilt to all the accusations even when it was logically impossible for her to plan everything out on her own without a concrete motive.
"What are you saying Davina?! Do you hear yourself?!" Lord Rodrick hissed, grabbing hold of Davina’s shoulders in a desperate attempt to shake some sense into her.
Everon stepped forward to stop Lord Rodrick but Neveah shook her head slightly to dissuade him, this scene had to play out uninterrupted.
"Davina! Listen to your father, say everything you know exactly as it happened right now!" Lord Rodrick demanded sternly.
Though his voice was stern, one could tell from his body language that he was actually terrified.
Terrified that Davina confessed to crimes of which the punishment were far greater than she could hope to bear and no one could see any reason why she would even do such things in the first place.
Lord Rodrick did a good job of hiding his terror given he was just human, Neveah guessed serving by the king of eerie calm, blank expressions and no emotions had rubbed off on Lord Rodrick in more ways than one.
"I have said all I know and she has already confessed to it, may I take my leave now?" Lady Adrienne interrupted the scene, unsurprisingly.
"You are in such a hurry to leave." Neveah pointed out,
"If the council is done questioning me, it is only right that I be allowed to take my leave. Being summoned before the council harms my reputation and speaks ill of the alliance between our kinds." Lady Adrienne replied through gritted teeth.
"Reputation?" Neveah asked with a scoff.
"Regardless of who the culprit is, the fact that you summoned a portal makes you an accomplice, Lady Adrienne. Do not think you can leave unscathed." Neveah clarified.
"I was only doing a favor to a friend! How is that a crime?!" Lady Adrienne defended.
"Davie, say something!" Lord Rodrick hissed.
"I... I don’t know.... I... didn’t want to harm her... I..." Davina’s statement began to waver as Lord Rodrick got through to her.
Her eyes darted around frantically and there were visible signs of strain on her face.
Her breath came out in short pants and she began hyperventilating.
It was much similar to the signs Estelle had displayed when she struggled to fight the control of the dark fairy, it meant Davina’s consciousness had begun fighting back to reclaim her mind.
"She is having a panic attack. She will lose consciousness at this rate or worse." Everon assessed.
"Leave her. Lord Rodrick, you have to get a concrete confession from Davina or she will have to take the fall." Neveah said.
The whole time, Neveah’s gaze was fixed on Adrienne, studying her every move closely and that was when she caught it
For a split second only, the sign was so subtle, barely there even and it was gone the very next moment, but Neveah was a wolf shifter, nothing could escape her.
’She is truly the one behind the spell. Just now...there was a glow in her eyes.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
Neveah glanced around the hall, everyone else were focused on Davina, she was the only one who was studying Adrienne closely enough to have noticed it.
Neveah needed concrete proof, to expose right before everyone’s eyes that Lady Adrienne was wielding magic right at this very moment.
But how could she acquire that proof when Neveah was not even certain how Lady Adrienne was able to conceal all signs of her magic completely? Even the glow in her eyes?
’When magic is being wielded, it leaves traces, the dragons would be able to sense it immediately. There has to be something.. something that is completely concealing Adrienne’s magic trace.’ Neveah thought to her wolf.
’We do not know anything about fairies or how their magic work, perhaps they have a secret method?’ Neveah’s wolf thought back.
Neveah frowned slightly as she thought over it for a moment, if Lady Adrienne was not exposed right in front of the council’s eyes, Davina would take the fall for this.
’The ring, you silly girl!’ That strange voice hissed in Neveah’s mind, making it’s presence known once again after a long while of silence.
Neveah’s eyes moved down to Lady Adrienne’s hands and sure enough, there was a ring on her left index finger which she fiddled with.
It was an inconspicuous act, appearing completely natural, something anyone would do when they were nervous or anxious and so no one would find it suspicious.
But somehow, Neveah could tell, that there was something off about that ring.
Neveah glanced over at Davina who struggled against her father’s hold and was quickly growing violent.
Neveah’s gaze trailed Davina’s, finding Davina’s eyes set on the open window in the audience hall...a window on the third level, a drop that no one would survive.
’She intends to make the girl harm herself, that way the case goes cold.’ Neveah’s wolf said out what they had both realized.
Neveah debated her actions, if she moved now and was still unable to prove Adrienne’s involvement, she would have no explanation for her actions and Davina would jump to her death.
But if she did not move now, Davina would still jump... either ways, Davina was at this risk.
The scene that was about to happen played out in Neveah’s mind and as Neveah was caught at a cross roads, that voice came again.
’Since when did you lose your guts...omega?’ The voice asked.
That was all it took for Neveah to damn all consequences, she lunged at Adrienne, tackling the fairy down to the ground in one move, her sight aimed on the ring...a move that took the entire council by surprise. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"Neveah! You cannot attack a royal!" Everon exclaimed in horror but his words were soon forgotten in light of greater troubles.
The moment Neveah snatched the ring off Adrienne’s finger, a powerful burst of magic exploded from Adrienne, shooting glowing sparks all around the audience hall and sending everyone in close proximity flying back.
