Chapter 398: Hefty Accusations 2 (Ch.398)

King Jian frowned slightly but he did not deny being in possession of said letter, and his silence did more damage than any words he could have said.

"If this is true, Lady Neveah’s actions are sacrilegious! Desecrating the bond of soul?! Forsaking your own bonded?!" A dragon lord asked in outrage.

"You are very quick to jump to conclusions and point fingers at others. If I do remember correctly, your chosen rider is also not your true bonded. Since when was it anyone’s place to speak about the bonds of others?" Kaideon shut down the accusation of the dragon lord that had spoken.

"With all due respects, Dune Lord, this is a direct dishonor to Lord Menarx and it is in that the concerns lie. Lady Neveah’s ties to the white dunes considered, it cannot be condoned." Another dragon lord agreed.

"Dishonor? Quite the contrary, standing trial for her choice in a bonded...Veah is the one being dishonored." Kaideon replied in a deadpan tone.

"Kaideon..." Neveah interrupted before Kaideon could say anymore, shaking her head slightly.

The beasts of Asvar were known for many things and one of such was how highly they revered and respected the mate bond.

To them, it was the greatest gift any living being could be blessed with, it was sacred, a bond they waited centuries for before ever considering an alternative,

How could they ever fathom that anyone could betray the mate bond and chose to be with another while her true mate was very much alive and had been by her side?

"The letter... Your Grace." Weinlor pressed.

This time, it was Cassian who pulled out the letter, passing a wary glance to Menarx as he handed the letter to him first.

Menarx did not take the letter but instead, he stared at it in silence for a short moment and everyone could only watch to see his reaction and what impact the truth that had just been revealed would have on him.

That his chosen rider had deceitfully concealed her bond with another.

"This is hilarious." Menarx said, breaking the tense silence with a quiet chuckle which was far from the reaction anyone could have expected.

"I cannot believe I have come to see the day we would be presented with such an absurd situation, having our council convene for baseless accusations." Menarx continued with a shake of his head.

"Is that what this is about? Your evidence is based off of the certainty that Veah has hidden this from me? Why would any of you even think I did not know about it?" Menarx asked,

His tone was cold and his characteristic glowering expression had taken it’s place on his face.

"You knew?" Cassian asked in surprise.

"That there is someone who claims a bond with Veah? Yes, I have known for a long while now. It was the first thing she told me of the moment the merging of fire was completed and I gave my assurance that it was of no matter to me and it is not." Menarx replied.

"Claims? This is to say there is no truth to this?" The dragon lord who had spoken before asked.

"We have all chosen to forget the fact that Lady Neveah was originally brought here against her will, so how could she conspire to infiltrate a place she never wanted to be brought to?" Lord Imagor spoke up in Neveah’s defence, much to everyone’s surprise.

"On another note, would any of you stand aside and watch your bonded taken away by foreigners?" Lord Imagor asked pointedly.

"Because I surely remember this Prince of the Eclipse Domain and if he had prevented us by claiming his mate, it would not have stopped us, but it would have told of his honor."

"If there is truth to this claim or not, he has failed in his duty to protect his bonded and has thus lost the rights to his claim. This is the way of the dragons." Lord Imagor asserted.

Lord Imagor’s words were enough to silence the doubts of the council since they all knew what lengths they would go to protect their riders had they been in that position. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"If there truly is nothing to hide, why then has it been so closely concealed?" Weinlor still had some words.

"Would you have us go around holding up a sign about it? Who here has the right to know about my rider’s personal affairs?! Not even one of you!" Menarx snarled.

"There is no reason for Veah to have told anyone about Alessio, so claiming that she hid it for malicious reasons is just absurd."

"I am a noble blooded lord dragon, I bond whomever pleases my heart. What is it to me if fate had other arrangements? I have found a worthy bond in Neveah for whom I have willingly forsaken the wait for my true bonded, whoever she may be."

"It is a decision I have not once regretted and I will never go back on it. I am not dishonored, having Neveah as my rider is my greatest honor." Menarx made clear to the council.

At any other time, Neveah would have been touched by the words Menarx had just said and how he insistently backed her up, but this time, her eyes were fixed on the letter in Cassian’s hand.

"No more needs to be said of this. If you have read what is written in that parchment, as I am sure you must have, then you would know that there is a clear difference between a threat and a conspiracy." King Jian began,

"That is surely not a message one would send to a spy nor a bonded. Due diligence has been done, there is no possible methods through which Lady Neveah could have been in contact with her kind since she was brought here."

"And there is no proof this parchment was actually from the Eclipse Domain and not just forged to slight the Lady of Ruby Scales."

"Now that it is proven that Menarx was not mislead by his rider, Lady Neveah was honorable and made her past clear to her bonded, these matters are their personal affairs and as such, the letter serves no further purpose." King Jian asserted.

Weinlor seemed to have no words to counter King Jian and Davina was also helpless as all her accusations fell through.

Neveah sucked in a deep breath to calm herself, shaking off her thoughts, she returned her focus to the matter at hand.
