Chapter 397: Hefty Accusations (Ch.397)

"Your Grace..." Weinlor turned to King Jian for help to stop Neveah’s interrogation but King Jian cut him off before he could complete his words.

"You, stay out of it." King Jian ordered, watching the events playing out before him with an eerie calm.

"As I have said, the last face I saw before I lost consciousness was indeed Lady Adrienne of the Fae and I stand by my word so if you have no concrete proof otherwise, I’m done with you. " Neveah finished.

"That’ll be all, Your Grace. I believe we can only move forward when Lady Adrienne is here. She would be in the best position to explain why exactly she was at the academy on that night." Neveah turned her attention to King Jian.

"I have men out looking for her, she will be brought before the council in no time." Kirgan reported to King Jian.

"Do not drag Lady Adrienne into this, she has nothing to do with this! You know that!" Davina insisted in an almost frantic manner.

"I know what I saw, Davina. You’d have to do better than yelling to change my testimony. We should hear from Adrienne soon." Neveah replied blankly, Neveah’s countenance had returned to it’s usual calm as she stepped away from Davina.

"It was not Lady Adrienne on that night!" Davina kept repeating the same words.

"Then who exactly was it?! You?" Imagor asked in a tone of exasperation.

"Yes!" Davina exclaimed under pressure, saying the words out before she even realised it.

Davina’s eyes went wide, her confession further astonished the rider council and even the elves she had dragged into this.

"I... I didn’t mean..." Davina stuttered out but it was already out.

"There, we have it. That was not so hard, now was it?" Neveah asked as she turned to face Davina once again.

"You were there on that night, Davina. You were the last face I saw and you have already admitted to it." Neveah agreed.

"You cornered me into saying that!" Davina exclaimed with wide eyes.

"Then shall we go back to dragging Lady Adrienne here? If it is not you, then it has to be her." Neveah made clear.

"How does that even work? Neither of us were spotted there that night!" Davina defended, though she was not helping her case much.

"Reporting that I was taken by dwarves proves you were there, Davina. How else would you have that information if you did not know what happened that night?"

"Now instead of digging yourself a bigger pit, you should just answer my questions." Neveah adviced coldly.

"Why are you going after me, Davina? You have nothing to gain from this." Neveah asked.

"You are a fake, scheming traitor! You lied to everyone and you are still doing it now. I already told everything to the elven council, you cannot escape your crimes!" Davina still accused fiercely.

Neveah was not sure if Davina was just this good at acting or if the spell made her truly believe the words she had just said, it was hard to determine how magic worked at all.

"What did I lie about exactly?" Neveah asked.

"You were sent here by your people to spy on the dragons! You have been in communication with the Alpha King of the Eclipse Domain, Alessio Terran Lothaire and he is your true mate!"

"You bonded with Lord Menarx while having a mate, you have no morals! The elven council will make you pay for deceiving a prince of the elves and seducing him to do your bidding!" Davina hurled out accusation, after accusation.

She was on a rampage, eyes wide and seeking any method to take Neveah down, Neveah could tell the spell was behind her urgency but Neveah could not ponder over that.

This time, Davina’s accusation shocked not only the entire council to silence but even Neveah herself.

At the mention of Alessio, Neveah felt as though the air had been sucked out of her lungs, her greatest pain laid bare before a council of people who only regarded her with distrust.

"Don’t you dare spin false tales here! What nonsense are you spewing?!" Menarx snarled, shoving away Cassian who tried to restrain him.

"These are hefty accusations, Lord Menarx. The council will have you stay uninvolved." A dragon lord of the dragon council spoke up.

"Menarx, stay still." King Jian ordered.

"Like hell I will!" Menarx snarled.

"Defying the orders of your king for the sake of Lady Neveah only confirms these accusations." Weinlor pointed out, his words halting Menarx in his step.

"How... how do you know about Alessio?" Neveah asked, unconsciously taking a step back.

This was the only part of Davina’s accusation that had truly registered in Neveah’s mind.

"Did you think no one would ever find out? That you are mated to another and infiltrated the Dragon Keep hiding that?!"

"You made Lord Xenon your first target and manipulated his feelings to get here, but when you realized you could not control a wild dragon, you pushed him into an irrecoverable state by faking your death at the cliff and moved on to Lord Menarx?!" Davina hissed.

Neveah felt like a knife had been plunged right into her gut, every ugly word Davina said settled heavily in her heart and Neveah did not even have any words to counter these accusations.

"Do you have any evidence of these accusations? Because Creator help you, you do not." Lady Kaliana asked for the first time, having observed the situation in silence.

"We do have evidence... it is in the hands of the Dragon King." Weinlor replied directly.

Neveah turned, all eyes moving to settle on King Jian who had been placed on spot.

"Your Grace, King Jian of the dragons... I have personally sent an anonymous gift to you through an unmarked portal, in hopes that you would do the right thing and investigate the situation before our arrival."

"On that note, I shall have to request the letter in your possession, sent by Alpha King Alessio of the Eclipse Domain for his mate, Neveah." Weinlor asserted.
