Chapter 396: Who Is? (Ch.396)

The rider’s council was once again left in shock by Neveah’s revelation and the mention of a entirely unexpected name in the Keep, but no one was more shocked by Neveah’s words than Davina herself.

Why? It was precisely because Davina and Neveah both knew who Neveah had really seen on that night.

It was not that Neveah was unclear on who she had seen or did not dare call Davina out, instead Neveah had chosen to place out a bait and only Davina’s reaction could confirm her suspicions.

’She could go one of two ways. Let Adrienne take the fall which would mean Davina herself holds bad intentions or sabotage herself to protect Adrienne. Ultimately, we will be able to confirm if Adrienne is involved or not.’ Neveah thought to her wolf.

’If Davina is truly under a spell, you cannot overlook the fact that the fairy behind it might not be Adrienne but someone else.’ Neveah’s wolf thought back to her.

’If so, then she will let Adrienne take the fall. There is no certainty to this, the best we can do now is follow our instincts.’ Neveah replied back.

’I have never doubted our instincts, but with another presence in our head now... I do not know if our instincts are still ours, Veah.’ Neveah’s wolf thought.

Somehow, the very moment Neveah heard of fairy magic, she knew there was only one fairy she had encountered who obviously had it out for her,

It was only that Neveah was not sure if she was so certain of this because of her own instincts or this strong certainty had something to do with that voice in her head.

Fairy magic was similar for both dark fairies and the untainted, the most powerful dark fairies could even do things like controlling the minds of others, what stopped the untainted from having the same abilities?

It was a wild guess, dragging Lady Adrienne into this but if Neveah was right, Lady Adrienne’s status was too complex, this was the only chance she would get to overcome the fairy.

And if she was wrong, no one would get hurt by her words. All Neveah had to say was that it happened too fast and perhaps she had not seen it clearly.

If there was one thing Neveah was sure about, outrightly calling Davina out at this time also would not play out in Neveah’s favor since she had said nothing of it up until this moment, it would appear as a mere retaliation.

And if there was someone behind this, they had sent Davina here knowing Neveah already knew of Davina’s involvement and would surely expose it,

Even then, they had created this situation knowing that Neveah’s word against that of Lord Rodrick’s daughter, it was obvious what side the majority of the council would lean to.

And whichever side lost, the other party would not be entirely safe either. This added to Neveah’s suspicions that this was planned out by someone who knew Davina and her place in the Keep very well.

No other attendant could have the entire council give them a listening ear or actually consider her words if it was not Davina.

Davina hardly ever left the Keep, it was within reason to assume the culprit was a resident here in the Keep.

"Lady Adrienne of the Fae is of royal blood. Lady Neveah, do you understand the gravity of your accusation?" One of the dragon lords asked Neveah.

It was a reaction Neveah had already expected, Lady Adrienne’s reputation was pristine and so was Davina’s.

Neveah was the only one who was not so clean reputation wise.

"And what if she is of royal blood? She can do no wrong? If Neveah says she is involved, then she is involved. She should be dragged out here and questioned, I know my daughter has been tried for less concrete accusations." Kaideon countered before anyone else could say anything.

"Lord Kaideon, I understand your personal..." Weinlor began to say but was cut off by a snarl from Kaideon.

"Shut that mouth of yours or I will rip you a new one." Kaideon made clear.

It was obvious that Kaideon meant every word he had said, though Weinlor’s eyes narrowed in displeasure, he wisely kept his mouth shut.

"Kirgan, where is this Lady Adrienne at the moment?" King Jian asked.

"My Liege, Lady Adrienne is presently away from the Keep along with the other residents. I will have someone look into her whereabouts immediately." Kirgan replied.

"Lady Adrienne has nothing to do with this...she was not there that night!" Davina exclaimed in alarm, spinning right into Neveah’s trap and further confirming Neveah’s suspicions.

But Neveah still did not know for sure, she needed a definite confirmation.

"And how would you know that? You were not there on that night...or were you, Davina?" Neveah baited.

Davina could not counter Neveah’s claims without admitting by her own self that she was the one who had knocked Neveah unconscious at the academy.

Would she admit to it? Or choose to remain silent?

"Davina, you clearly know a whole lot more that happened on that night...even more than I do. If Lady Adrienne is not involved in this, then who is?!" Neveah snarled, her tone moving from calm to a deadly snarl.

In a flash, Neveah was before Davina, looking right into her eyes.

"You had best think carefully about your next words Davina, whatever name I have said here will be dragged into this whether anyone likes it or not. " Neveah assured it a dangerously low tone.

"She cannot be involved in this, she cannot!" Davina exclaimed, trembling visibly. Her eyes darted this way and that as though seeking an escape route.

There was still that faraway look in her eyes and perspiration beaded on her forehead even when the temperature in the Keep was considerably cold.

"Lady Neveah, I would advise you restrain from intimidating the witness ..." Weinlor began but Neveah cut him off.

"What part of shut your gob did you not understand?!" Neveah hissed, fixing the elf with a chilling glare.
