Chapter 1827: Chapter 1827: The Golden Lotus Side Story (4)

Big Round called out anxiously, digging at the ground with all its strength, only to end up with a face full of dirt.

As Golden Lotus landed on the ground with a "plop," Big Round managed to wriggle its way out. It hurriedly nudged Golden Lotus, who lay motionless on the ground, with its nose.

Golden Lotus didn’t respond.

Big Round nudged her again.

"I’m fine," Golden Lotus wheezed, flipping over to stare at the sky. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Was it too late to go back now?

Although their journey began with a small mishap, things soon became much smoother.

Relying on Big Round’s incredible sense of smell and remarkable memory, they successfully found their way out.

However, along the way, Big Round often got distracted by other things, like leaves blown down by the wind, kites flying in the sky, or swans being raised in the artificial lake.

This was Big Round’s first time venturing out on its own, and everything it encountered delighted it. Even when it saw swans, it got excited and tried to pounce on them.

The swans near the shore flapped their wings in fright and took off in flight, but soon they turned back and flew straight toward Big Round and Golden Lotus.

Swans are vengeful and aggressive creatures.

There had been instances where people trespassed into their territory and ended up covered in bite marks after being chased.

Golden Lotus broke into a sprint and yelled back while running, "Big Round! Run! Why’d you have to provoke them?!"

Big Round didn’t seem to grasp the danger at all. It still thought the swans were playing with it, until one pecked its behind, prompting it to yelp and speed up.

A big dog and a small dog ran ahead, while several white swans chased behind.

It seemed Big Round had seriously angered the swans this time—an entire swan family had mobilized.

The nearby road was desolate, but once they reached the main road, the swans finally gave up the chase.

Golden Lotus, utterly exhausted, collapsed to the ground, slapping her paw against the dry leaves with a loud rustling sound. "You big dumb Round! Why in the world did you provoke them?!"

Big Round seemed to know it had messed up. It sat beside Golden Lotus in a dejected hunch, head drooping, its fluffy fur—combed nicely by Hannah—now in a complete mess.

It was terribly upset.

Its behind still hurt a bit.

From the swan’s peck.

Seeing its pitiful state, Golden Lotus didn’t say any more.

There was nothing she could do; after all, they were friends.

They sat in the roadside bushes, shielded by low shrubs so no one noticed them.

Golden Lotus didn’t know that in the outside world, dogs without owners were treated as stray dogs and would be caught. After all, the last time she went out, she was just a palm-sized toy dog.

Big Round knew even less; it simply felt a growing longing to return home.

It missed Hannah.

It missed Hannah’s hand patting its head.

Big Round let out a weak "woof."

Just then, a pair of cyclists passed by, slowing down as they glanced over. "What was that noise?"

Golden Lotus panicked and clutched Big Round’s head, using her paw to cover its mouth.

The cyclist’s companion dismissed it, "You must be hearing things. There’s no sound here in broad daylight. Let’s go."

The two pedaled away quickly.

Only then did Golden Lotus breathe a sigh of relief, while Big Round remained as clueless as ever.

"We can’t let humans find us," Golden Lotus said.

The villain had once warned her that if they were discovered, she’d end up in a lab being dissected.

Big Round seemed half-aware and half-confused.

It still wanted to go home.

But Golden Lotus felt her adventure had only just begun.

They continued walking along the roadside, with speeding cars rushing past them.
