New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 315: UNKNOWINGLY CHANGED THE PLOT
"Please, forgive us." Samantha pleaded. She wished Evelyn wouldn’t come to hate them.
If they had let Evelyn go then, she wouldn’t have gone through all the pain she had endured.
This guilt was something they came to bear as they watched the young girl suffer.
But Evelyn shook her head, gripping both of their hands tight.
"No, I don’t hate you. You are my mother and father. I don’t care about what happened." She said, tears spilling from her own eyes.
The couple had always loved her. They were the only ones she had known ever since she could remember.
Even though she would have had another family if they had given her up back then, but now, she already loved them too deeply to blame them.
The couple smiled fondly, filled with heartache.
"Eve, the necklace holds the answer to knowing your real family. Find them. We don’t want you to suffer." Adam said.
Evelyn’s birth family definitely had a lot of money. If Evelyn found them, her life wouldn’t be bad.
Samantha nodded, agreeing with what her husband said.
"The necklace is in my bedroom, under the floorboard next to the bed. We have kept it... safe all along." She said, taking a deep breath.
"The silver coin. It is wrapped in a cloth in the drawer. Use it to care for Allen. Consider it as compensation to the boy, growing up without knowing his father." Adam said.
They wouldn’t consider it as compensation to their daughter. Their daughter’s happiness and purity couldn’t be taken for a silver coin.
Instead, they considered it compensation to the little boy, Allen, who was being raised without a father.
"Take care of him, and don’t blame him. We know you love him." Samantha said. "I love you, Eve."
"And we love you, Allen. Take care of your mother." Adam said, prompting little Allen to nod.
"I love you, mother, father." Evelyn said, placing a final kiss on their forehead.
After the couple passed, life went on for the mother and son.
Previously, the Torres couple had sold the land they owned, not wanting Evelyn to work in the farm, keeping the money with Evelyn.
Evelyn used the money gotten from selling the land to set up a stall where she sold vegetables. That way, she didn’t have to rely on the silver coin.
Behind their cottage was a small garden where her parents had planted vegetables. She would set aside for herself and her son, and sell the rest.
Her parents had asked her to search for her real family, but Evelyn didn’t do that, instead she only focused on raising her son.
Maybe it was because she didn’t know where to start, or maybe it was because she didn’t know if they wanted her. After all, so many years had passed.
She was past marriagable age, being twenty, and even had a child out of wedlock.
So she didn’t search for them.
When she finished talking, the room was silent.
Catherine was thinking. What Evelyn said aligned with the findings her husband had gotten after investigation, but this was more detailed and complete, coming straight from the source.
But...
After some time, Catherine looked up at Evelyn and spoke.
"You told me this. I suppose you would prefer that I tell mother?"
Catherine had grown up in nobility as the only daughter of one of the two powerful Dukes in the kingdom. She was discerning and observant, and could grasp people’s intentions.
She knew that Evelyn told her this because she was aware that they wanted to know and she couldn’t keep it forever. But she also knew that Evelyn probably wanted her to be the one to say it.
Like Evelyn said, it wasn’t easy to say it, but she did because of her close relationship with Catherine, but she didn’t think she would be able to say it again.
That was why she hoped Catherine would understand.
Seeing that she did, Evelyn nodded in answer to her question.
"Yes. Please."
Outside the room, Aristia had overheard every single thing Evelyn had said with her ears pressed lightly agains the door.
She looked around the corridor and decided to leave before being caught.
Alistair and Claire could come back anytime, or anyone else could see her, and it wouldn’t be good if she was caught.
What Evelyn said wasn’t something a child should know.
Come to think of it, after seeing Allen, she had somewhat guessed how he was born, but she never expected it to be like this.
She quietly turned aroun, moving away from the door.
She returned to the library.
"You’re back. Did you see mama?" Alaric was the first to notice her.
Aristia shook her head.
"It looks like Mama’s busy. The door was closed. I didn’t want to disturb so I came back. Anyway, mama will still find out we’re here." She explained.
Hearing this, the others nodded, not doubting her words.
Aristia gazed at Allen’s face. He shared some resemblance with Evelyn, but just as Evelyn said, his eyes weren’t hers.
From Allen’s features, Aristia could tell that his father was very handsome.
But that didn’t matter. He had done something horrible to Evelyn.
Aristia couldn’t resist sneering in her heart.
[A silver coin? Ha! If Grandpa Edgar and Grandma Claire heard about this, they would be so angry.]
The old master and madam could provide gold coins as allowance for their children back then, so what was a mere silver coin for their daughter? It was too insignificant!
If Evelyn had been with them, not to talk of the allowance, she would have gotten married to someone of equal or higher standing, still enjoying wealth and status. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
So what was a silver coin in comparison to that?
Allen caught her gaze and turned to look at her, looking a bit confused as he wondered why she was staring at him.
Seeing his confused gaze, Aristia shook her head and turned away.
Her eyes fell on the table, noticing the snacks bowl was empty.
She had expected it, which was why she had filled her hands with the pastry before leaving and finished her glass of juice.
And now after, ahem, unintentionally eavesdropping and learning this piece of news from Evelyn, she wasn’t hungry anymore.
She took her seat and finished her assignments.
By the time everyone was done with their assignments, the adults had come out of Evelyn’s room.
Catherine had already heard that her children were in the mansion.
But they didn’t stay for dinner.
They got into the carriage and left, returning home to the Grand Duke’s mansion.
When they arrived, they found out that Wilson seemed to have just returned from the palace.
Since it wasn’t yet time for dinner, the family went their separate ways.
Catherine followed Wilson to their bedroom.
Aristia guessed that maybe she wanted to share what she had just learned with him.
During dinner, Catherine talked about the upcoming anniversary banquet of the kingdom.
There were only a few weeks left until the Kingdom’s anniversary banquet. All Academy students from Amberale would soon begin preparing to return.
Talking about the banquet reminded Aristia of the original Aristia’s memory of the anniversary banquet.
[Carolyn will meet Ivan there. Now that I think about it, she’s already met Wade. I think it’s safe to say that her story with Wade has crashed.]
Wade was no longer the way the book described. He not only had a friend, but had friends.
Charlotte was very much alive and well, and the family had even repaired their relationship, becoming close-knit and loving.
For Wade, this was the perfect family.
All these things changed Wade from the Wade in original Aristia’s memory. He wasn’t brooding and gloomy, instead, he was bright and cheerful.
But Aristia couldn’t and wouldn’t deny that she was the reason for all these changes.
She had stood up for Wade, accepted him as her friend, and prevented Charlotte from dying.
She had unknowingly changed the plot.
Now, she didn’t think Wade would fall for the heroine for those reasons again.
Unless the book tried to push things in place by making him fall for her because of other reasons, but Aristia was sure that no matter if he fell for the heroine or not, he would not be a problem to her.
Probably.
What unnerved her the most was that this was a novel world and not the real world. Things probably didn’t work with logic.
As for Ivan...
To be honest, she wasn’t too sure.
As she returned to her room after dinner, her mind was filled with thoughts of the banquet.
[Should I try to prevent Ivan from leaving the banquet hall so that he won’t end up alone with Carolyn Cornwell and fall in love with her?] She wondered.
This thought nagged her, but funnily enough, she couldn’t make a decision.
It wasn’t like she was afraid of Carolyn Cornwell, but knowing that she could be troublesome for her was really... disconcerting.
Aristia decided not to think too much about it, instead going to sleep. She would think of something.
Right now, she just needed to lie on her fluffy, comfortable bed.
