Chapter 316: MEETING THE ’HUSBAND’

Three days later.

The door to the room was pushed open, startling the person inside, though the expression on her face didn’t show.

Vivian Quentin looked up to see her mother entering the room with a wide smile on her face.

"Vivian, get up quickly!"

Vivian held back from saying that she was already up.

Instead, her eyes moved past her mother to the many maids standing behind her mother.

Her mother entered the room and turned to the maids with a look of displeasure.

"What are you waiting for?" She asked.

The maids quickly moved past her to the bathroom.

The countess then turned to Vivian, the smile appearing again.

"Vivian, the third princess has summoned you to the Grand Duke’s mansion. The maids will help you with preparing."

Before Vivian could even blink, she was led into the bathroom by a few maids.

Vivian sat in the tub, watching as the maids bathed her meticulously with soaps and oils. There were even rose petals in the tub.

She had written to Aristia two days ago that she wanted to see her, and a day ago, she received a formal invitation from Aristia, asking her to come to the Grand Duke’s mansion.

Her mother had been there when the letter arrived so everything led to the situation now.

The maids took her out of the bathtub and after drying and oiling her body with fragrant oil, they dressed her up, helping her put on a necklace, earrings and a bracelet. They did her hair, tying it in a ponytail, applied some blush on her face, and even applied a glossy pink balm on her lips.

The preparation now was even more delicate than when attending a royal banquet. It made Vivian speechless.

After the maids were satisfied with their handwork, they led her out of the room.

There, Countess Quentin was giving orders to a group of maids.

Seeing that Vivian had come out, she turned around and smiled, dismissing the maids and walking over to her.

"Vivian, it’s time to go. Make sure the third princess is pleased with you. Don’t put on such a boring expression. Smile more and be obedient. Do not upset her."

Vivian was speechless.

Why was her mother acting like she was about to meet her husband and not the third princess?

But she still nodded. "I understand, mother."

Countess Quentin showed a pleased expression. Vivian was a sensible child. Since she said she understood, then that meant she really was.

She just wished she would show some more expression. But fortunately, the third princess didn’t seem to mind. Thinking of this, she relaxed.

She followed Vivian to the carriage already waiting at the entrance, watching as Vivian got into the carriage and waving goodbye.

Vivian waved once before leaning back in the carriage.

The carriage sped through the streets, heading toward the Grand Duke’s mansion.

Finally, the carriage arrived at the Grand Duke’s mansion and Vivian was led inside.

"Greetings, princess Aristia." Vivian greeted the moment she met Aristia.

Aristia nodded, but her eyes showed surprise as she stared at Vivian.

"Why are you dressed this way?" She couldn’t resist asking.

But she couldn’t deny that this look suited Vivian. She just felt like squishing her cheeks!

Vivian blushed in embarrassment despite herself. The maids had wanted her to look cute and adorable, so they had dressed her in pink. Most of the jewelry were also pink.

She didn’t answer the question because it didn’t need an answer. Instead, she said.

"I agree to be your person, princess."

As she sat relaxed on the chair in front of Vivian Quentin, Aristia’s lips curled up.

She nodded at Vivian, smiling brightly. "It’s a good thing that you’ve agreed. You’ll need to swear an oath of loyalty."

Vivian nodded. "I understand, princess."

Aristia gestured to Adeline. "Linny."

Adeline nodded, going to arrange for the necessary materials.

Just like before, she had been led to Aristia’s room, but this time, they stayed in the room, not the balcony.

Vivian’s eyes moved from Aristia to the leaving maid, then her eyes moved to the rest of the people in the room standing behind princess Aristia.

There was an older boy who had light green hair and magenta eyes. Standing beside him was another boy with lavender hair and silver eyes.

There were also two identical looking girls. They both had chestnut brown hair, but one had light brown eyes while the other had darker brown eyes.

Not everyone would notice this, but Vivian was very observant.

She hadn’t seen these people before. Had they always been in the mansion? We’re they also the princess’s people? She couldn’t help but wonder.

Soon, Adeline returned with Butler Henry.

The process didn’t take too much time.

By the end of it, Vivian lay unconscious on Aristia’s bed.

"So she’s the one?" Heidi asked, glancing at the sleeping girl.

Aristia nodded. "Yeah. Once she wakes up, you’ll introduce each other." She said, then turned to Adeline. "Linny, please take her to the room."

Adeline nodded, carrying Vivian away to the room that she had already arranged on Aristia’s orders, since Aristia guessed that Vivian would end up unconscious or very tired.

Aristia turned to Owen, but before she could say anything, Owen said.

"I’ve already prepared it. It’s on the table." He said, pointing to the table.

Aristia walked to the table and saw that the writing materials she needed were indeed available.

She picked up the quill and began to write.

The letter read.

Greetings, Count and Countess Quentin.

Your daughter, Vivian Quentin, has been such a pleasant company to me that I want her to stay for a few days.

I apologize for not writing to you beforehand, but I want Vivian to stay a bit longer. She will not return home today. I really hope the both of you are alright with my decision.

She left the letter to dry, leaving the rest for Owen to take care of.

She didn’t know when Vivian would wake up so this was very necessary. She didn’t want to raise suspicion among her parents.

Even though Vivian was mostly overlooked, now that the Quentin couple knew that she was now friends with the third princess, she received more attention.

Countess Quentin was also aware that she had gone to visit Aristia, so she would anticipate her arrival to know how things went.

It would be strange if Vivian didn’t show up.

So she had to come up with an excuse to make the couple not worry.

Owen left to deliver the letter.

In the Quentin mansion.

Countess Quentin received the letter. Her husband happened to be around.

When they saw that the letter was addressed to them, the couple’s first reaction was worry.

They wondered if Vivian had done something wrong.

But as they read the letter, their expressions changed.

The couple stared at each other for a moment, their wide smiles almost stretching to their ears.

"Did you see that? The third princess wants Vivian to remain with her for a few days." Count Quentin said, his eyes shining with approval.

He was very satisfied with how his third daughter’s friendship with the third princess kept improving.

It was very good of his daughter and the third princess we’re close.

Vivian could convince the princess to suggest to their father working with him in business.

It was well known that the Grand Duke deeply doted on his daughter so he would surely consider her request.

To the Grand Duke, doing business with him was insignificant, but to Count Quentin, it would be very helpful!

His eyes could already see the wealth he would gain, so much that he rubbed his hands together.

Countess Quentin knew what he was thinking a d she was in full support.

If it worked out, her husband would make a lot of money and she could have more dresses and jewelry, of better quality than the ones she had now.

She would also be able to boast to the other noblewomen about her daughter’s relationship with the third princess.

"Ahem! Master and Madam."

The couple jolted to reality when someone called them.

They turned to the butler, seeing him with a tight smile on his face.

Only then did they remember that someone else was there.

Slowly, their eyes trailed to the messenger from the Grand Duke’s mansion.

The couple quickly wiped off the drooling expression from their faces, putting on polite smiles, hiding their embarrassment at being caught daydreaming.

"Please, allow me to escort you." Count Quentin said.

"No need." The messenger said with a shake of his head.

Bowing slightly, he turned to leave, but Count Quentin followed, still insisting of seeing him off.

As the messenger left, he couldn’t help but think of how this couple was opportunistic. He fastened his steps.

He didn’t want to stay a moment longer as even the servants and guards lacked decorum. He got on his horse, only giving a nod to the couple before the horse galloped away.
