Myriad Devils-Chapter 118: Longevity healing gourd
It was still the early hours of the night, so it had yet to cross into the next date.
Below the nightly skies covered by a crimson hue, Anon and Seth were two invisible forces maneuvering through the Blood-Drip Jungle. Their figures were hidden by the towering trees that had branches outstretched, devouring light.
The pair moved through the darkness, traversing from one base to another with efficiency.
Only some minutes had gone since they each utilized a second clear heart crystal before entering the small mountain in the first base, so they would’ve had around two dozen minutes before the clear heart crystal lost its effects.
Seth’s spirit commanded stellar cosmic energy and he had drawn out power from his principle, reducing his time by a little.
Thankfully, he hadn’t used much of his strength, else he would’ve needed to use another clear heart crystal relatively soon.
As they escaped the first base, both had drawn power from their principles to increase their pace for a short period.
Due to this, Anon deduced that he had around twenty minutes left, and Seth had slightly less, around fifteen.
But none of it really mattered.
If anything, they were prepared to utilize two clear heart crystals each, per base. It would still leave them with a few crystals to sell at the academy.
As a matter of fact, using four per base was hard to accomplish even if they tried to waste its effects.
Seeing Anon pull out the gourd and ask if he knew what it was, Seth shook his head and sighed, "I’m no all-knowing pet of yours, dear Anon."
Hearing this, Anon appeared slightly disappointed, but he said, "Well, it has already shown its effects. I only thought that it may have had more abilities than what the one-winged monkeys allowed us to see."
It was obviously a healing-type treasure, very much like the azure plums. Whilst one healed the spirit, the other seemingly healed the physical body.
"Since neither of us have knowledge of it, let’s call it the Longevity Healing Gourd." Seth thought before saying with a smile.
Anon nodded before placing it back into his bracelet and wondering out loud, "Longevity Healing Gourd huh... I wonder how useful it is? It has such strong effects on beast commanders, so it’ll be the same for us. But we’ll be leaving the Blood-Drip Jungle soon, and by the time it we’ll need it, we would have probably entered the third world?"
After all, only October’s assessment was like this.
It was very possible that until October’s assessment in the second year of the academy, the students wouldn’t even leave the Core City whatsoever.
By then, Anon probably, but Seth especially, would’ve already entered the third world. If the gourd had no effect on third world stellar fighters, it would certainly be a waste.
The thought of selling it would then arise. As of now though, treasures like the Sky-grade anklets and the azure plums that were especially useful to him, Anon hadn’t even fathom the thought of selling them to the academy.
But when thinking like this, Anon thought, ’Once again, I’m left in the dark due to my lack of knowledge. I’ll certainly sort this out once I return to the academy.’
Speaking of returning to the academy, and by extension, leaving the Blood-Drip Jungle, the time was quickly approaching.
Though they had been guessing how much remained, with the many experiences they had gone through, it was very difficult to truly calculate the amount of time that had passed since they entered the jungle.
There was more than one occasion where the students in October’s assessment had fallen unconscious or entered meditation because they had exhausted their spirits.
During either of these situations, it would be improbable for them to take notice of the passage of time.
Though Anon subconsciously knew that they would be leaving the jungle soon, as for when that time was, he could only guess.
’Maybe a few days, or even a couple of nights alone remain.’ Anon thought this.
Leaving the first base, before long, the scene of an empty jungle stacked with towering blood-leaved trees changed, and they greeted another one-winged monkey.
Brushing past the unassuming beast, they slowly began encountering more and more of these one-winged monkeys.
The duo’s speed slowed dramatically as they began assessing from afar the situation that they were approaching.
What occurred thereafter was a carbon copy of what took place in the previous base.
Before the clear heart crystal’s effect could disappear, the pair of stellar geniuses each took out another clear heart crystal, before seeing it crumble in their palms.
Of the twenty-three, six had been used.
All on top of the small mountain in this base, there were one-winged monkeys that playfully fought against one another.
Interestingly, they did not slash their claws or drive their wings at each other.
They did not even bite.
In their hands were pieces of bone with sharp ends that they used to battle against each other. It was the same for the flying monkeys high above.
Anon saw this and felt a chill course through his veins.
These dumb creatures had already begun utilizing weapons.
Although it was weapons of slain beasts and would shatter in a genuine battle against beings as powerful as second world fighters, the fact that these beasts had even fathomed the idea of using weapons was frightening.
’They’re dumb, but these monkeys are smarter than the average monster, that’s for sure.’ Anon thought this as he and Seth approached the entrance to the hill-shaped camp of this second base.
Once again, one-winged monkeys were present at the entrance, most of which had distinct blue eyes. And as Anon and Seth brushed past these one-winged monkeys, they locked onto even more such blue-eyed creatures within the small mountain.
The world within the small mountain was very different compared to the one inside the small mountain of the first base.
As there was no gourd brimming with vitality, and no pond, when the two entered, they were assaulted by the scent of blood.
Besides dozens of one-winged monkeys loudly chanting with crazed eyes, there were also foreign creatures like a beast with an ox’s head and a bear’s body, stomping its foot against the ground and with eyes filled with bloodthirst.
There was even a flying pig-type creature.
Then, there were one-winged monkeys with the bones of fallen beasts made into weapons, combating against these foreign beasts.
And at the center of it all, there was a towering silvery pillar that released waves upon waves of heat.
The atmosphere surrounding this pillar seemingly twisted and warped due to the immense heat that it pulsated with.
There were flames etched across the pillar’s body and were obviously the main cause of this heat as Anon’s gaze turned similarly heated.
Almost immediately, he knew that this was a Divine Weapon, and it was one of a higher level than his last!
But as reason took over, he looked at the size of the pillar which was more than two dozen the size of his own body, and then he glanced at Seth.
This was unlike the gourd which could’ve simply been plucked out of the air and thrown into the academy’s bracelet.
With such size, Anon had no choice but to refine it before he could seize it, and they could escape.
Seth felt his gaze and turned to him, smiling.
"You want this too?" He asked this as if he also had some interest in it.
To which, Anon only smirked knowingly, and reminded Seth of his remarks from an earlier date, "I wish not to look down on you. After all, these treasures are beneath someone of your stature."
"Hehehe," Seth chuckled and retreated several steps, appearing at the entrance of the small mountain.
His eyes shone with a dark light, and in the depths of his eyes, runic characters took shape, before shooting into the real world.
In the blink of an eye, the entrance was covered by countless runic symbols that intertwined with one another and released a strange and ominous aura.
Most notably, the one-winged monkeys at the entrance did not appear to sense this at all.
"Your time is not long. Due to the clear heart crystal, I am limited by the amount of stellar cosmic energy I can utilize, so this will only fool the eyes of those outside, but it’ll last longer than an illusion that confuses the minds of the monkeys within. As for the monkeys within... Don’t study them, I’ll take care of that." Seth said. His words were spoken in a whispering voice even if it wasn’t intentional.
Anon brushed past the one-winged monkeys and evaded several attacks as he approached the silvery pillar.
Once he appeared before it, he placed his hand on the pillar, before pouring the power of his principle into it.
As Anon’s spirit commanded more and more stellar cosmic energy, the invisible veil that cloaked his body and spirit, created by the clear heart crystal, immediately began dissipating at a rapid pace!
At the same time, some one-winged monkeys shifted their attention from the battles taking place around the pillar, to the physical changes taking place on the pillar’s body.
As the power of Anon’s principle seeped into the pillar, specs of dark gold shimmered across the body of this divine weapon.
At the same time, droplets of blood that fell from the bodies of injured beasts currently in battle, suddenly began radiating with dark light.
Seth approached the one-winged monkeys clustered together. An uncontrollable amount of bloodthirst poured out of his eyes.
