Chapter 51 - Tears of Regret

Hate is intense hostility and aversion, often rooted in fear, anger, or hurt. Frequently, hatred leads to harmful actions directed at the person who is hated.

It is indisputable that we will encounter people who share similar thoughts. Regarding hatred, it is not just one or two people who harbour such feelings.

Maki exploited this to further nurture Hinami's hatred to the point where she was willing to tarnish the reputation of her own older sister.

"Why did you do it?" Renji asked in a sharp, hissing tone. Renji's cold, piercing gaze was filled with hatred and directed at Hinami, his sister-in-law.

"Because I hate her deeply and want to see her suffer," Hinami replied hesitantly. It was not without reason that Hinami had harboured hatred and resentment toward Aira for so long.

The root of Hinami's hatred dates back to the death of her mother when she was six years old. Initially, Hinami adored Aira, seeing her as a kind older sister. However, everything changes when her father leaves the Hoshino family, taking Aira with him to live with his mistress, who becomes Aira's biological mother.

Her mother's death, caused by severe depression due to her father's affair that resulted in Aira's birth, was followed by her father abandoning the Hoshino family, renouncing his title and responsibilities as the head of the family to be with another woman.

Because of her father's actions, Hinami had to endure a harsh life from a young age, unable to enjoy a carefree childhood like most children her age. She was burdened with the heavy responsibility of becoming the next head of the Hoshino family, replacing her father.

If only her father had not abandoned the Hoshino family, she would not have become an orphan at the age of eight, bearing the weight of leading the Hoshino family and being engaged to an older man named Hiroshi Okada to ensure its survival, which was on the brink of collapse due to massive debt.

Throughout her life, Hinami has had only a handful of friends. She is cold-hearted, closed off to others, and difficult to trust people. Among her few friends is Yuna Kenzaki, a close friend from middle school. However, they drifted apart after attending different schools.

After not seeing each other for a long time, Hinami learned that Yuna had been hospitalized and was suffering from depression, being treated in a special ward. Naturally, Hinami felt sad to see her cheerful friend in such a state. When she visited the hospital, she accidentally encountered Maki Kenzaki, Yuna's cousin's wife. It was from this meeting that Hinami discovered the reason behind Yuna's severe depression.

"Someone as great as you, why do you protect her so much? Even throwing everything away for a lowly woman who doesn't deserve you," Hinami looked down on Renji and sneered at his actions.

"Watch your mouth. I could tear it apart right now," Renji's emotions flared.

"Do it, I'm not afraid," she challenged with a cold glare.

Renji smirked sinisterly, "Raiden's traits have been passed down to you. I must admit your bravery, but you've forgotten one thing." Renji showed a cruel grin. I am Renji Ishikawa. I am capable of anything," he hissed in a threatening tone.

Renji snapped his fingers, signalling someone to be brought in. "Tetsuya!!!" he shouted, calling out.

The young man named Tetsuya arrived with a wide grin on his face while his hand roughly dragged the unconscious body of Raiden, who was covered in wounds, and threw him in front of Renji.

Raiden's body was used as a footstool by Renji, treated like a doormat, deemed worthless and disgraceful, fit only to be stepped on.

Hinami's eyes widened in shock, her face filled with disbelief. Reflexively, she stood up, wanting to move closer to help, but Tetsuya quickly shouted a threat.

"Stay seated. Don't you dare take a single step forward unless you want to see him dead," Tetsuya threatened seriously, pointing a gun at Raiden.

Two of Tetsuya's men also acted, restraining Hinami. There was nothing she could do but scream and struggle, unable to contain or hide the anger surging within her.

"What have you done to Raiden?! Let him go! Don't hurt him; he has nothing to do with this!" Hinami panicked, trying to help, forgetting that her situation wasn't much better than Raiden's.

A cruel grin spread across Renji's face, pleased to see Hinami's panicked reaction. "Where's that arrogant attitude from earlier?" he sneered sarcastically.

"You're utterly heartless!" Hinami shouted angrily.

"I'm not heartless; I just do not pity those I consider enemies," Renji corrected proudly.

Tetsuya's eyes shifted to Renji. "You should go. Let me handle things here," Tetsuya suggested, knowing Renji still had other matters to attend to.

"Thank you so much for your help, Tetsuya."

Seeing Renji leave made Hinami even more panicked, as his words were no joke. Moreover, he was the one who had started this chaos. But what could she do? She was powerless, with two large men in black suits holding her shoulders, preventing her from moving anywhere.

After Renji left, it was now Tetsuya's turn to take over. Truthfully, it wouldn't be challenging to end Hinami and Raiden's lives, but it wouldn't be as fun if they died too quickly. Besides, Aira would be sad, and he didn't want to see his sister-in-law crying over these lowly people.

Hinami's gaze was filled with hatred and anger. Tetsuya's face lit up with a joyful smile as he loved such intense stares—they excited him, fueling his desire to kill. "Pour out all your hatred for me. Stare at me as sharply and coldly as you can before I gouge out your eyes to display in my art gallery," Tetsuya said casually, accompanied by a sweet smile that, to Hinami, was utterly terrifying.

Hinami's expression changed instantly. Her face turned pale as if she had anaemia, and cold sweat poured down her face. It was true what people said—Tetsuya was even more terrifying than Renji. While Renji finished off his enemies in one swift strike, Tetsuya preferred to torture his victims first, making them beg for death due to the unbearable pain he inflicted.

A silver dagger, beautifully engraved with rose patterns, was pulled out by Tetsuya from behind his jacket. He wasn't trying to scare Hinami; from the beginning, he had intended to carve a rose design on her body, just like he had done on Raiden's forehead.

Cold sweat quickly rolled down Hinami's forehead, past her cheek, and fell onto her school skirt. Fear dominated her completely, and she couldn't stay calm as the tip of the dagger slowly pierced her cheek, causing a drop of blood to trickle down.

"Before I start carving, let me tell you something, so listen carefully," Tetsuya said. Hinami nodded obediently. She could only follow Tetsuya's orders if she wanted to stay alive.

Tetsuya moved the dagger away but didn't step back from Hinami. "Renji withdrew all his shares and took over the Kenzaki company because of Maki's foul mouth. She dared to call the child in Aira's womb a bastard," Tetsuya explained, revealing the valid reason that Hinami hadn't known.

Tetsuya walked over to the chair where Renji had been sitting earlier and sat in a boss-like pose. "Two months before Aira and Renji married, Maki's parents came to me to borrow a large sum of money, claiming it was to expand their business. But in reality, they used it to indulge themselves, travelling abroad," Tetsuya continued, explaining the real issues with the Kurogane family.

Tetsuya's dark eyes glanced briefly at Raiden. "The man you consider your brother and trust the most is the source of your suffering."

"That's impossible! I won't believe your words," Hinami retorted firmly.

"Believe it or not, it's up to you," Tetsuya shrugged, showing he didn't care. "Your father left the Hoshino family because Raiden secretly misbehaved toward Aira, often bullying and mistreating her. And the reason Raiden arranged your engagement to that old man—ugh," Tetsuya sighed heavily, "I don't even want to say his name," he muttered wearily.

"Your engagement to Hiroshi was purely for Raiden's business interests, not to pay off the Hoshino family's debts, which piled up due to Raiden's gambling habits. And just so you know, Aira didn't receive a single penny of your father's inheritance because Raiden took it all and used it as business capital, all while claiming it was Aira and her mother who received the assets," Tetsuya explained at length, revealing the truth behind everything.

"You're lying! This must be some trick to ruin our relationship," Hinami insisted, still convinced that Tetsuya's words were false.

Yamato handed Hinami a brown envelope to read. "Inside are documents showing the transfer of shares from the Hoshino family business and several assets, all transferred under Raiden Hoshino's name after forcing Aira to sign a power of attorney for the inheritance," Tetsuya explained.

Hinami's eyes widened in shock, and her heart was instantly filled with disbelief. "So all these years, my hatred for her was misplaced. The person I considered my brother and my only family was the one who dragged me into this pit of resentment," she said with deep regret.

Hinami gave a bitter smile, feeling regret was useless because she had already hurt Aira's heart cruelly, spreading malicious rumours about her in the hopes of seeing her fall into sadness and feel the hatred of people out there.

Could Aira forgive her if she knew that the one who tarnished her reputation was a member of her own family?

Hinami's body trembled intensely from deep within her heart, regret filling her heart to the point where it made it hard to breathe as if she were suffocating. If only she hadn't fallen for Maki Kenzaki's words about her older sister, which turned out to be lies. But she had easily been swayed by Maki's words because of the grudge she already held, which made her angry and blinded her.

"Forgive me, sis," she sobbed softly, filled with deep guilt.

Tetsuya sighed wearily, "It's not fun when you cry. " His face showed a sad frown. " Look at me like before; show me your anger and hatred, and don't act weak."

Tetsuya squatted down, staring meaningfully at Hinami's tear-streaked face as though she were at a funeral. Tetsuya was suspicious of Hinami—whether her tears were genuine, stemming from guilt, or crocodile tears seeking sympathy.

Those who had met Tetsuya directly as an enemy or opponent would surely know and understand that Tetsuya's heart was not as soft as it appeared with his frequent smiles. He was the type of person who had a hard time feeling pity and did not like showing compassion to his enemies, whoever they were.

Tetsuya's gaze was sharp and cold as he reached out, grabbing Hinami's hair tightly, forcing her head back as she winced in pain, "Even if you cry blood, I won't pity you. I won't let you go just like that after the evil you've done," Tetsuya hissed with a murderous glare.

"Sniff..." Hinami could only cry in fear as if feeling that the god of death was standing right in front of her.

"Do you regret it?" Tetsuya asked, not releasing his grip.

"Y-yes," Hinami stammered in fear, "if only I hadn't been tricked by that woman's words," she blamed Maki.

"Who is that woman? Tell me," Tetsuya pressed, curious.

"Maki Kenzaki," Hinami said.

Tetsuya released his grip on her hair but didn't pull back. His gaze was filled with curiosity, "Tell me everything that snake woman said to you. If your story interests me, I might let you go, but if not," Tetsuya smiled wickedly, "I'll add another punishment." Tetsuya continued to smile, his expression dark.
