Chapter 52 - Hatred and Regret

Hinami's body trembled violently as she stared in fear at Tetsuya, who looked terrifying—like a bloodthirsty, heartless demon. Her actions weren't without reason.

Fresh drops of blood stained the light grey marble floor, and a deep red colour decorated the surface. All that blood belonged to Hinami, whose thighs and arms had been slashed by Tetsuya's dagger. Fortunately, her face was spared from being carved as Tetsuya had initially intended to draw a rose on her cheek.

Tetsuya looked sad as he observed Hinami's expression. "Calm down, don't be afraid. You won't die from such small wounds," he said.

Tetsuya casually played with the blood-stained dagger in his hand. "After hearing your story earlier, I feel like stabbing that snake of a woman, making her whole body bathe in blood," he said with a cruel grin on his face.

Tetsuya clapped his hands joyfully a few times. "My heart races just thinking about it. How exciting would it be to see it happen in person?" Tetsuya laughed eerily, like a madman.

Hinami grew even more terrified, crying uncontrollably, too afraid to look at the man in front of her, who seemed like a demon. Amidst Hinami's fear, a short-haired, brown-haired man approached.

"Young master, it would be best if you stop all this. If this young lady dies, Miss Aira will surely be sad, and that wouldn't be good for her health or her pregnancy," he said, trying to calm Tetsuya down while also saving Hinami from death.

"Ah~ you're right, Yamato. But I want to stab her heart with my carving knife. I even prepared it in my jacket pocket," Tetsuya said sadly, disappointed that he couldn't carry out his plan.

"Maybe you should stab someone else instead, not this young lady," Yamato suggested casually as the words slipped out of his mouth.

"Then how about I stab you instead of her?" Tetsuya countered, glaring at his assistant.

Yamato forced a stiff smile, trying to stay calm and not take it seriously. "I beg you, don't be angry. I'm saying this for your sake and Miss Aira's. If Miss Aira finds out that Miss Hinami's death was caused by you killing her, she would surely hate you, and so would Miss Fujimoto Saki," he said, mentioning the name of the yellow-haired, ponytailed girl.

Tetsuya sighed sadly. "I don't want to be hated, especially by Pony Girl. Otherwise, she won't want to play with me anymore, and who will I argue with?" he muttered listlessly.

Yamato smiled slightly. His idea of using Saki's name had proven effective. Fujita's advice wasn't wrong.

"Then put down your knife and let this young lady go."

"Fine, I'll release her and that scoundrel, Raiden. But don't think I won't be watching you two," Tetsuya warned, threatening Hinami.

Unconsciously, Yamato breathed a sigh of relief, having felt anxious earlier. He feared his boss wouldn't release Hinami and Raiden, knowing his nature was similar to Renji's—once he targeted someone, he would eliminate them without mercy. But when it came to cruelty, his boss was the champion, preferring to see his victims die slowly through torture or beg for their deaths.

"Tell someone to take them both to the hospital. Keep an eye on them, especially Raiden."

"Yes, Young Master."

Tetsuya walked away with Yamato, leaving the two Hoshinos for his subordinates to handle. After this, he wanted to go somewhere to meet someone, but first, he needed to clean up and change clothes, afraid his body would smell blood.

Her cheeks were red and swollen from being slapped several times by her husband, who had lost control in his anger, forgetting that she was heavily pregnant.

It wasn't without reason that Kairo had resorted to slapping his wife. Her actions had gone too far, even threatening someone else's life.

An hour ago, everything was fine. There were no signs of trouble or an impending storm until a young man with dark eyes, wearing a school uniform and accompanied by two adults—one of whom was a famous lawyer, the son of a former high-ranking police officer—arrived unannounced, shocking everyone in the house.

Kairo's intuition told him that the young man had come with trouble, and he was right. The young man presented evidence of a school group chat discussing Aira Ishikawa, Kairo's wife. Some of the chat messages cursed and insulted her child as a bastard, while others even wished for the child in her womb to die at birth.

At first, everyone was confused and didn't understand why the young man showed them the group chat. But not Maki, who sat at the edge of the chair. Her face turned pale, and cold sweat dripped as she realized what this meant. To clarify things, the young man recorded a conversation between Tetsuya and Hinami Hoshino. In the talk, Hinami explained that her actions were influenced by stories from Maki Kenzaki, who had incited her.

Everyone in the house, except Maki, was shocked and couldn't believe her outrageous behaviour. Her handsome, tan-skinned husband was so angry that he lost control and slapped her several times.

"What will it take for you to change and stop causing trouble, Maki?!" he shouted, filled with anger and disappointment.

"Do you need to hit me? I'm your wife, and I'm pregnant!" Maki retorted, unwilling to believe Kairo handled her so aggressively.

"We are aware that you are pregnant, but why in the world would you be so irresponsible? Is your hatred for Aira this strong?" Shina's eyes were filled with disappointment and sadness.

"I just wanted to teach her a little bit, that's all," Maki said softly, her voice trembling in fear.

Renji stared at her murderously. "What did my wife do to deserve you slandering her in front of her sister, causing all this trouble?" he hissed coldly.

"I-I..." Maki's lips trembled in fear, unable to respond. Maki's head hung low, her eyes glistening with tears, too afraid to look at Renji, who seemed like a terrifying figure.

"I want all of you to listen to what I have to say and not dare to interrupt," Renji stood tall in the middle of them.

Renji's presence was terrifying, like a bloodthirsty demon, and his sharp, intimidating gaze made everyone too afraid to speak or move.

"Let me tell you one thing, Maki Kenzaki. Because of your words, my wife became so stressed that she had to see a doctor. And do you know what the doctor said?" Renji's gaze was icy.

Maki's head shook slowly, tears streaming down her cheeks as everyone stared at her with accusing eyes. No one defended her, not even her mother-in-law, who usually protected her but now remained silent as if betraying her.

No one stood by her side. She was now alone, facing the cruel demon named Renji Ishikawa. Out of all the people in the world, why did Aira have to marry Renji, a man who had everything—a dream that Maki secretly longed for?

Renji's fists clenched tightly as he struggled to control his emotions. He wanted to end Maki's life right then and there, but seeing her large belly made him hold back. After all, a child is innocent and pure when born into the world, free of any sin, even if their parents are criminals.

"Do you know that my wife is suffering from prenatal depression, a condition that could affect her pregnancy and increase the risk of premature birth?" Renji pointed at Maki. "You're a mother too. You should understand how it feels when your child is insulted by others."

Maki could only sit in silence, crying. The entire Kenzaki family was deeply humiliated because of Maki's actions, especially Kairo, her husband, who was so devastated that he could only sit quietly, unable to do anything.

"Because of this incident, my wife keeps blaming herself for being the mother of my child. Every night, she secretly cries, feeling guilty that her unborn child is being insulted and demeaned by others. And as her husband and the father of that child, I am furious and cannot accept the humiliation you've caused!" Renji shouted angrily, momentarily losing control of his emotions.

Maki smirked cynically as if challenging him, even though she was cornered and had no one to defend her. Yet, she still dared to act arrogantly.

"Aira should be happy and at peace now that you've avenged her. I have nothing left," she muttered in despair, trying to blame everything on Aira.

"My wife never complained to me or asked me to retaliate against those who hurt her. Do you know that when Yuna framed her and sent her to jail just for accidentally breaking her phone, she gently asked me not to seek revenge and to forgive Yuna? Her heart is so gentle. Even toward those who hurt her, she never holds grudges or hates them. So why do you keep hurting her? What has my wife ever done to you? Answer me! What did my wife do wrong for you to incite Hinami to slander her?" Renji roared in fury as Maki refused to admit her mistakes and continued acting as if she were the victim, suffering one misfortune after another.

"I've always hated Aira! Why does she always get everything? The praise of others, my husband's heart, and even marrying someone as great as you! Why does it have to be her and not—" Maki's words were cut off as Renji tightly grabbed her face.

Renji's eyes burned with intensity as if he wanted to tear her apart. Cold sweat, as large as corn kernels, dripped down her face. Renji honestly looked terrifying, like the God of death.

"Please, let her go. Don't hurt her," Shina pleaded in a desperate tone.

Renji roughly released Maki's face, and a few seconds later, Shina immediately rushed over to hug Maki's trembling, fragile body.

"There's one thing I forgot to tell you, Mrs. Maki Kenzaki," Renji said with a cruel grin. "Your arrest warrant has been issued today. The authorities will come to take you away, so wait," he said coldly.

Her eyes widened in shock as she realized she would be arrested, but on what charges?

Maki was utterly confused, shocked, and terrified, and she did not want to go to jail. "On what grounds are you arresting her?" Shina asked angrily, trying to defend her.

This time, Takamaru stepped forward to explain on Renji's behalf. When Takamaru explained, even Shina or anyone else couldn't argue.

"In this matter, Miss Maki is the main suspect, the provocateur, or the mastermind behind this incident. After hearing Miss Hinami's testimony, it's clear that she was incited to anger. There's no smoke without fire, and fire doesn't ignite without someone lighting it," Takamaru explained, leaving Shina speechless and unable to argue.

At that very moment, after hearing Takamaru's explanation, Maki broke down into hysterical sobs in Shina's arms, whining like a child who didn't want to go to jail, forgetting her own mistakes. If she was so afraid, why did she dare to incite Hinami in the first place?

It was both pitiful and absurd.

Unexpectedly, Kairo knelt before Renji, bowing his head and begging for forgiveness and mercy. "I beg for your kindness, Young Master Renji. I know Maki is wrong, but she is heavily pregnant, and—"

"What do I care?" Renji interrupted coldly.

Kairo's efforts failed, prompting Shina and Maki to kneel before Renji like servants begging for their lives from their master.

"I-I know I'm wrong. I'll do anything, but please don't send me to jail," Maki pleaded.

"I beg for your kindness, Young Master Renji. Please remember the good deeds my husband once did for you and the Ishikawa family," Shina said, bringing up her husband's past kindness.

"Remembering his kindness, you say?" Renji asked sarcastically.

"Y-yes," Shina replied, trying to sound convincing.

"If I hadn't remembered Mr. Kenzaki Haru's kindness, I would have sent that wretched woman and her child to the afterlife long ago."

"You're so cruel!" Maki cried out, a mix of anger and sadness in her voice.

"Who said I was a kind-hearted person? People have always called me a devil because I'm cruel and heartless, and now you've seen it for yourself, Mrs. Kenzaki."

"I beg you, please reconsider your decision. I'm worried Maki might give birth in jail," Shina continued to plead, hoping Renji's heart would soften.

"So what? No matter where a child is born, they are pure and innocent. The place of birth doesn't matter. Besides, did your daughter-in-law ever think before acting? Did she consider whether her actions would harm others or even cost someone their life? I'm doing this for her good, so she learns her lesson and reflects on all her mistakes—not just toward Aira but others," Renji explained at length, hoping Shina and the others would understand.

"Young Master," Fujita called respectfully.

"What is it, Fujita?" Renji asked without turning around.

"There's something I need to tell you," Fujita replied with a serious expression.

"Come closer."

After standing beside Renji, Fujita approached and whispered something into his ear. It was unclear what they were discussing, but it seemed important enough to make him look anxious from Renji's expression.

"It seems I can't stay here any longer. Thank you for the tea, but I'm sorry—I'm not used to drinking cheap tea. At least next time I visit, serve black tea," Renji said casually, waving goodbye as if nothing had happened.

"We'll take our leave now. Thank you for the drinks," Takamaru said politely and kindly on Renji's behalf.

Watching the three of them leave, Maki panicked and tried to chase after them, but unfortunately, she couldn't catch up with Renji, who had already left the house.

"Wait! Don't go, I beg you... please don't go..." Maki sobbed, kneeling at the entrance, unable to chase after Renji.

Kairo could only collapse weakly, while Shina cried helplessly, unable to do anything. With her husband gone who-knows-where after their bankruptcy, it felt like he had irresponsibly abandoned the family.

'I should never have arranged your marriage to Maki and should have let you marry Aira instead. Forgive me, son,' Shina thought sadly, regretting her past decision.

What's done is done. Everything that has happened cannot be undone. Instead of wallowing in regret, it's better to rise and face everything with strength, resilience, and an open heart, for it is all God's will.

Maki must indeed take responsibility for her actions, even while pregnant. However, on the other hand, Kairo felt sad for the child she was carrying, as they would also suffer the consequences of their mother's actions, being stigmatized for being born in jail and having a criminal for a mother.
