My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms-Chapter 195: "In This Life, I Only Want Her.
In the oppressive and suffocating room, everyone was watching Jack Yates.
Jack Yates turned slightly, looking at Old Mr. Yates who no longer showed any signs of life.
Old Mr. Yates stared wide-eyed, with unfinished thoughts.
Through the hazy mist of light, Jack Yates saw a spirited old man standing in front of a little boy, about five or six years old.
"Attention!" yelled the old man.
The little boy lifted his head and puffed out his chest, his small hands pressed tightly against his legs, standing ramrod straight.
The old man shouted again, "Salute!"
The little boy raised his right hand, palm facing outwards, fingertips touching his temple, his small mouth tightly pressed shut.
The old man walked over to the little boy with a kindly smile, bending down to adjust the boy’s saluting posture.
"Tilt your palm slightly downward, your fingertips shouldn’t touch your head, yes, just like that."
In the sunset, the old man hugged the little boy, his aged hands gently stroking the little boy’s head, again and again.
"Does my good grandson want to hear the story of a great general?"
The little boy answered crisply, "I do!"
The old man said slowly, "A long time ago, there was a tribe called ’The Nuvians’ who always bullied us, stole our food, and attacked us."
The little boy said angrily, "The Nuvians are so annoying!"
The old man smiled and gently patted the little boy’s round cheek, smiling kindly, "Yes, enemies who bully us are very annoying. However, whenever we Celestians were bullied by external enemies, a great hero would always emerge to drive those enemies away."
The little boy’s eyes shone brightly as he looked at the old man, listening intently.
"There was a young man named Quentin Hawthorne, he was a great hero of that time, he was very formidable, defeating the Nuvians with great vigor, chasing them all the way to Wolf’s Head Peak, where they scattered and never dared to bully us again."
"Since then, people have described him with ’Windfang Ruin,’ and it came to describe the highest achievement of a military general."
The little boy looked up and asked, "Did Grandpa name me Felix Yates because I am also great? Will I become a great hero too?"
The old man gave a thumbs up and praised, "Of course! Our Felix will definitely become a great hero!"
Then the old man told stories of Franklin and The Generals of the Young Family, and many stories of anti-Japanese heroes.
"We, well, we can live in peace now because those great heroes drove our enemies away for us."
Until the last sliver of sunset disappeared completely, the old man slowly led the little boy back inside.
After dinner, the old man returned to his room to rest.
Jack Yates snapped back to reality, his unfocused pupils shifted, as his sharp gaze swept over everyone in the room, finally landing on Chloe Bell.
"Your father, really, what age are we in? Constantly instilling battle thoughts into Felix, why don’t you persuade him, he’ll only mislead the child this way."
"Nowadays, everyone sends their kids abroad, in the future, Felix should go abroad to study too, and after completing his studies, take over my company. In this age, making money is the way."
Russell Yates retorted, "Money, money, money, that’s all you know about! If you think Dad’s teaching is bad, why don’t you teach yourself!"
Chloe Bell replied, "Russell Yates, you take the bowl to eat, and put it down to scold, huh? A few years ago, when you were working in a poor, remote county, if it weren’t for my investment in building a factory there to boost your GDP, do you think you could have been promoted so quickly? Don’t be so ungrateful!"
Russell Yates said, "Yes, all thanks to you, Big Boss Bell! I’m just a moocher, without you, I wouldn’t survive!"
With a loud "bang," the sound of a chair being kicked over was heard.
Felix stood outside his parents’ room, initially wanting to ask his mom for a great hero story like his grandpa did. But instead, he heard his mom and dad arguing.
As far back as he could remember, Mom and Dad always argued.
After the fights, Dad would storm off, not speaking to Mom or him for a long time.
The smart and sensible Felix heard his parents arguing, didn’t knock or disturb them, nor did he cry, instead he stood quietly outside the door, and silently walked away.
Dad is always busy and doesn’t like him, only likes his older brother and sister.
Even his second brother sometimes gets praised by Dad, but Dad never praises him.
Mom is also very busy, working hard every day, often coming back very late, and sometimes going on business trips, not returning for a long time.
Mom has no time to tell him stories, nor to take him out to play.
In the family, only Grandpa likes him, Grandpa wants him to be a great hero.
But Grandpa has many grandsons, he’s not the only one, he fears if he doesn’t become a hero, Grandpa won’t like him anymore.
So he has to become a great hero so that Grandpa will always like him.
"What military academy? In peaceful times, what use is a military academy? Study finance, and manage the company once you’ve graduated."
The youth curled his lips, giving a cold laugh, "Have you ever cared about what I want? Or rather, have you ever cared about me?"
Chloe Bell’s phone rang, she quickly answered it, impatiently waving her hand, "Alright, I’m busy, you can take whichever exam you want."
The youth lowered his head, smiling bitterly, and turned to leave.
Later, as a team captain, he led his Blade Force to assist the narcotics police in The Gilded Delta with a drug bust, but there was a betrayer within the system who revealed their ambush location to the drug dealers in advance.
All thirty of his teammates were killed by the drug dealers. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Under the cover of his teammates, he escaped, taking three bullets and breaking two ribs.
Returning to Northcity, he wanted a thorough investigation, but was stopped by his grandfather.
His grandfather advised, "Felix, let it go, this ends here, retire."
"Why?" He was filled with anger, unable to vent, clenching his fists as he questioned the now frail Old Mr. Yates, "Grandfather, you were the one who told me to be a great hero."
Old Mr. Yates turned his head, helpless and weary, "That was just to coax a child, you’re an adult now, how can you still take childhood words seriously?"
At that moment, the once spirited young Felix Yates felt his faith crumbling.
Yet he didn’t immediately retire. After recuperating, he applied to return to The Gilded Delta, using thunderous tactics to eliminate the largest drug cartel, personally killing a big shot behind an electronic fraud zone, and using their blood to honor his thirty teammates.
On the day he retired, he sat by The Azure River, looking at the vast expanse of water, and changed the name "Felix Yates," which he had borne for twenty-four years.
The military hero Felix Yates was no more; he now only sought to climb to the pinnacle of power as Jack Yates.
"Grandpa, Felix is unfilial, I cannot fulfill your wishes." After speaking, Jack Yates knelt down and kowtowed heavily three times.
Then he said, "I will make The Yates Family more glorious, on the condition that you allow me to be with her."
He looked up, his eyes red, tears welling.
"In this lifetime, I only want her, without her, I want no one else. If you still care a bit about Felix, let me be with her."
Under everyone’s gaze, old Mr. Yates’ eyes slowly closed.
