My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms-Chapter 167: Car Accident
Simon Forrester quickly completed the formalities for the bar he gave to Renee Winslow. With their status, things go smoothly at any department, and they don’t encounter any delays.
Meanwhile, Jack Yates indeed hadn’t gone to work at the company and drove Renee Winslow to school every morning, then picked her up in the afternoon.
Jack Yates only returned to the company to work again at the beginning of December.
In the blink of an eye, it was Christmas Eve.
This was the second "Christmas Eve" Renee Winslow spent with Jack Yates. Last Christmas Eve, she used her scholarship to give him a tie and an apple-shaped car accessory.
This Christmas Eve, Renee Winslow again gave Jack Yates a tie, plus a Zippo windproof lighter.
She didn’t ask Jack Yates for a gift because he had already given her many gifts, regardless of the occasion, giving whenever he felt like it, entirely based on his mood.
Even though she didn’t ask for anything, Jack Yates still prepared a gift for her, a delicately crafted diamond necklace, not too ostentatious, suitable for everyday outfits but also substantial.
"Thank you." Renee Winslow hugged Jack Yates’s waist, stood on tiptoe, and kissed his chin.
Jack Yates lowered his head and pecked her lips: "Thank me properly tonight. Now, let’s go eat."
Renee Winslow’s face heated up, and she pushed against his chest: "You’re awful." Then turned and ran away, "Wait here, I’ll change clothes."
She ran off to the dressing room.
The dressing room was connected to the master bedroom for Renee Winslow’s convenience in changing clothes.
Jack Yates watched her with a doting smile, one hand in his pocket, following behind her. Just as he was about to enter the dressing room, the phone on the coffee table in the bedroom rang.
He turned around, grabbed the phone, saw the caller ID, and frowned instantly, impatiently answering the call: "What is it?"
Russell Yates sounded serious: "Your grandfather is hospitalized."
Jack Yates threw down the phone, lit a cigarette, and took a fierce drag.
Renee Winslow changed her clothes, put on the diamond necklace Jack Yates had just given her, and happily approached him.
"Let’s go, I’m ready." As she spoke, she fiddled with the necklace around her neck and asked, "Does it look good?"
"Renee." Jack Yates flicked the cigarette, "Sorry, I can’t have dinner with you tonight. The old man fell ill and is hospitalized, I need to go to the hospital."
Renee Winslow’s smile froze slightly but quickly resumed, soft and sweet: "It’s fine, go quickly."
Jack Yates patted her head: "I’ll make it up to you tomorrow."
Renee Winslow smiled and said: "No need, it’s just a meal, why bother?" She pushed him, "You should go, hurry back to see Grandpa."
Jack Yates stepped back under her force, stopping only at the door, and stretched out his hand to take her by the waist, giving her a kiss.
Renee Winslow pushed him away: "You should go, don’t waste any more time."
Jack Yates: "You can call your actor friend or your roommate. Have them dine with you tonight, and you can invite them over after."
Renee Winslow smiled at him: "Alright, I know, no need to worry about me, hurry to the hospital."
After Jack Yates left, Renee Winslow sent a message to Sanga, asking if she was free tonight.
Alpine Aster: [Oh, finally remembering me?]
Alpine Aster: [You’re the one who chooses romance over friendship.]
Alpine Aster: [Not spending the evening with your Mr. Yates?]
Before Renee Winslow could send a message, Sanga sent three consecutive texts.
Renee: [I’d love to spend time with you, but I need to be able to see you.]
Alpine Aster: [You’re in luck, I just finished filming a movie two days ago] [I’m in Northcity today, considering your sincere invitation, I’ll reluctantly agree.]
Renee: [I’ll send you the restaurant address.]
The restaurant was already booked, located in the commercial area of The East Second Ring.
Renee Winslow sat in the silver Bentley and had just left the villa when she received a call from her grandmother Winnie Lowell.
Winnie Lowell spoke kindly: "Renee, have you had dinner?"
Renee Winslow’s tone was indifferent: "I have. Do you need anything?"
Winnie Lowell sighed lightly: "You haven’t called home in a long time, Grandma misses you. I also wonder how you’ve been outside?"
Renee Winslow felt a wave of bitterness. If it were before, she’d be moved by her grandmother’s words of concern.
However, now she was very clear that her grandmother had a reason for calling her.
"Busy with studies, forgot."
Winnie Lowell asked: "How many days do you have off during the New Year’s holiday?"
Renee Winslow frowned: "Grandma, what do you need?"
Winnie Lowell: "For New Year’s, we’re thinking of going to Northcity for a couple of days. I wonder if you’ve..."
Before Winnie Lowell could finish, Renee Winslow quickly interrupted: "I don’t have time, it’s my third year, busy with studies. I have to take exams, study and work on problems every day, no time to guide you around. You can hire a guide; they’re professional and better at it than me."
After pausing, she added, "In the two years I’ve been in Northcity, I haven’t had much time for fun. After all, my family is poor, my father hasn’t paid a cent for my tuition. It’s through scholarships and student loans that I can study, so no money for fun."
Winnie Lowell: "But didn’t you have..."
Renee Winslow’s voice turned icy: "Didn’t have what?"
Meanwhile, Jack Yates was on his way to the hospital in a low-key black Red Flag car.
Close to the hospital, he received a call from Harvey Lancaster.
Harvey Lancaster: "Third brother, Ethan Wyatt entered our country; he arrived in Northcity at noon today."
Jack Yates’s tone was cold: "Keep a tight watch."
Harvey Lancaster added: "Third brother, be careful, Ethan Wyatt is a mad dog, if he..."
Before Harvey Lancaster could finish, Jack Yates quickly instructed: "Immediately send a few people to Valerorn Street."
Valerorn Street is where The Winslow Estate, where Jack Yates and Renee Winslow currently live, is located.
After hanging up, Jack Yates hurriedly called Renee Winslow, only to be told she was on another call.
After two failed attempts to reach her, Jack Yates urgently called Butler Pierce.
The moment the call connected, he asked sharply: "Where’s Renee Winslow?"
Butler Pierce calmly replied: "Miss Winslow went out to eat with friends; she said you allowed it."
Jack Yates asked: "How long has she been out?"
Butler Pierce: "Almost twenty minutes."
Renee Winslow had just hung up Winnie’s call when she received one from Sanga.
Sanga: "I’m here, where are you?"
Renee Winslow responded with a smile: "I’m still..."
Then a loud crash happened, and the phone dropped.
Sanga was shocked and quickly shouted: "Hello, hello! Renee Winslow, what happened to you?"
Renee Winslow’s vision blurred, with many people moving in front of her.
It hurts, my arm hurts, my head hurts, everything hurts.
Jack Yates had just entered the hospital building when his phone rang.
After the call, he turned and ran outside.
Frederick Yates stopped him: "Third brother, where are you going?"
Jack Yates paused and said in a deep tone: "Renee Winslow had a car accident."
Frederick Yates frowned: "But Grandpa is still unconscious; we don’t know if he’ll make it this time."
Jack Yates’s throat tightened, every step feeling like stepping on blades, painful whether he left or stayed.
Frederick Yates, seeing Jack Yates’s hesitation, continued to persuade: "Third brother, I’ve never opposed anything you’ve said before; I’ve always supported you.
"Everyone in The Yates Family opposes you being with Renee Winslow, but I still support you. However, if you leave now, even I don’t think you’re worthy of being one of The Yateses."
"Grandpa likes you best, values you the most. Out of the brothers, yours is the only name he personally chose, and even though you’ve changed it, he still praises you, saying you’re brave, worthy of being a grandson of The Yates Family."
Ultimately, Jack Yates turned back, torn between filial duty and personal affection, choosing the former despite his worry for Renee Winslow.
When Renee Winslow was out of the emergency room, it was completely dark.
She weakly opened her eyes and saw Sanga, Shay, and Aunty Warren standing beside her bed.
But Jack Yates wasn’t there.
