My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms-Chapter 166: No, I Don’t Want to Leave You
"Renee Winslow, do you really want to leave me that much?"
"Renee Winslow, even in death, don’t think about leaving me."
"Renee Winslow, do you still want to leave me now?"
...
In the over a year she had been with Jack Yates, he’d asked these questions many times, but none as sincerely as today, with a helplessness that seemed beyond control.
Just a moment ago, Renee was thinking breaking up would be more beneficial for Jack.
Yet when she heard Jack ask this question, she couldn’t feel happy; it was as if a needle had pierced her heart, causing a sharp pain.
She sniffled, her voice heavy with emotion, "We agreed on two years, it’s not been two years yet."
Jack’s voice was calm as he said, "As long as you want to leave now, I’ll let you go."
Renee didn’t speak, gripping her phone tightly, biting her lip hard.
Jack said, "Don’t be afraid, you just need to answer me: do you want to, or not?"
"I don’t want to," Renee said truthfully, "I have thought countless times about leaving you. Even before you called me, I was still thinking that if we broke up, it would actually be better for you."
Jack heard her say "I don’t want to," and the cloud that had been hanging over his heart all night disappeared in an instant, a hint of a smile appearing on his lips: "Oh, how would breaking up be more beneficial to me?"
Renee said, "You left in such a hurry this afternoon, there must have been a big issue with the company, otherwise you wouldn’t..."
Wouldn’t have left halfway through being intimate, not even getting undressed. That wasn’t Jack’s style.
But she didn’t voice this half of the sentence.
She believed that even if she didn’t finish the sentence, Jack would understand.
"You have issues, but I don’t have the ability to help you, I can’t even be by your side. All I can do is be anxious at home with no solutions."
"I want to be by your side as your girlfriend when you need me, not be like this..."
Her voice choked up again as she reached the end of her words.
"You now ask me if I want to leave you. I don’t want to; I want to be with you. Even if I were to leave, it would be when you are on top of the world, not when you’re in trouble. But if you need me to leave now, then let’s..."
Jack hurriedly interrupted her: "I’ll send someone to pick you up, no, I’ll come back to get you right away."
After the call ended, Renee hurried to the bathroom to take a shower.
She had just blow-dried her hair and hadn’t even changed her clothes when Jack returned.
Seeing the man in a thin dress shirt, looking weather-beaten, brought tears to Renee’s eyes, and she threw herself into his arms with red eyes.
Jack embraced her, inhaling her sweet scent deeply as he buried his head in her neck.
"You smell so good."
Renee stood on tiptoe, hooked her arms around his neck, and bit his ear softly.
The hand Jack had around her waist tightened suddenly, then he picked her up, carrying her out.
Renee noticed Kyle Sheffield in the driver’s seat and hesitated about whether to say hello.
Kyle Sheffield smiled and said, "Hello, sister-in-law."
The word "sister-in-law" left Renee momentarily dumbfounded.
She’d been with Jack for over a year, and his people never called her "sister-in-law"; they mostly just used her name, or didn’t say anything, just nodded and smiled.
Renee was just about to say not to call her that when she opened her mouth to speak.
Jack seriously instructed Kyle Sheffield, "Enough chatter, drive quickly."
Renee sat in the backseat with Jack, hesitated for a moment, and finally couldn’t hold back, asking, "What’s going on with your company?"
Jack spoke with a steady tone, "The company’s targeted medicine was reported to the drug administration."
Renee frowned, puzzled, "Why would an anti-cancer drug be reported?"
Jack replied, "Because it contains hallucinogenic substances."
At a red light, the car stopped, and Kyle Sheffield patiently explained, "An expert from the company’s research team was bribed by Matthew Shaw to accuse our third brother of manufacturing drugs, even claiming our third brother’s expansion into the Southea market was to control the drug economy there. They also said the previous elimination of Southea’s drug lords was to get rid of competition."
Renee turned her head to look at Jack, worriedly asking, "What are you going to do now? Will they detain you?"
Jack’s lips curled coldly, "They wouldn’t dare."
They wouldn’t dare detain him hastily, at most causing him some financial loss.
Renee clung to his arm, leaning against him, "As long as you’re alright."
The car parked in the underground garage, and Kyle Sheffield handed the car keys to Jack, looked at his watch, and said to Jack, "It’s two o’clock now. There’s seven hours until nine, you should go get some sleep, don’t overwork yourself."
Jack, holding Renee, entered a private elevator that went straight to the top floor of the building, where he had an apartment in the Starkwood Group building.
Following Jack into the apartment, which was decorated in a black-and-white, dark color scheme, Renee only felt it was empty and cold.
"Is this place usually empty?"
Jack replied, "During the first two years in the group, I often stayed here, but not much after that."
What he didn’t say was that before getting together with Renee, he occasionally stayed here. Ever since Renee came into his life, he hadn’t spent a single night here, rarely even resting here at noon.
Though he didn’t live here, the apartment was cleaned daily.
Renee stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, observing the densely packed high-rises outside, each building with sparsely lit lights that together resembled a starry summer night sky.
As she looked at the dazzling city lights, Renee’s heart seemed illuminated by thousands of lights, warm and surging with emotion.
Jack approached her from behind, embracing her with both arms, his chin resting on her neck as he kissed her face.
"Jack," Renee turned around to hug his waist, looking up with a small face, "I hope that one day we can stand on the top floor again and watch the fireworks together."
This "top floor" referred not only to the height of the building but metaphorically to other altitudes.
She didn’t aspire to reach Jack’s heights, merely hoped to be a little closer to him.
Jack’s Adam’s apple bobbed, "Okay."
Renee stepped back from his embrace, "You should go sleep."
Jack picked her up, "Let’s sleep together."
Renee nestled against Jack, kissing his face and then his lips, just about to get down, when she barely moved.
Jack Yates pressed on her lower back, his voice low and hoarse: "Be good, don’t tempt me, there’s still work to do during the day."
Renee Winslow’s face heated up: "I didn’t have that kind of thought."
Jack Yates: "I do, but we can’t do it now."
Renee quickly rolled off him and moved aside.
Jack Yates pulled her into his arms, buried his face in her neck, and kissed her: "Sleep."
Renee rested her head on his strong, sturdy arm, her back against his warm chest, and fell asleep shortly after.
When Renee woke up, Jack Yates was already out of the room.
She walked out of the bedroom and saw Aunty Warren sitting on the living room sofa.
"When did you come over?" Renee asked with a smile.
Aunty Warren stood up, smiling back: "Mr. Yates called me over this morning."
After breakfast, Renee waited for Jack Yates in the apartment.
Thinking about what Kyle Sheffield had said, she picked up her phone and searched for the words "Starkwood Group."
-
In the President’s Office of the group.
Chloe Bell sat on the sofa in the reception room, looking at Jack Yates, who was fastening his cufflinks with his head down.
"Really not splitting up?"
Jack Yates didn’t raise his head: "Not splitting."
Chloe Bell stood up: "Alright, there will be a vote at the shareholders’ meeting shortly to decide your stay."
Jack Yates: "Whatever."
The final vote decided to remove Jack Yates from the position of President of Starkwood Group, with Vaughn Bell taking over as the new President.
Vaughn Bell is Chloe Bell’s nephew, three years older than Jack Yates, and joined the company earlier.
After Jack Yates was dismissed, Kyle Sheffield’s position was also adjusted.
As they left the meeting room, Kyle Sheffield asked in a low voice, "Are you really planning to hand the company over to Vaughn Bell?"
Jack Yates loosened his tie with one hand, letting out a cold laugh: "Since he’s eager to take the hit, let him face it for a few days, and clean out the people at the same time."
Kyle Sheffield understood, Jack Yates was going along with the plot.
This vote also helped clarify which people in the company were Vaughn Bell’s, seizing the opportunity for a thorough cleansing to remove those aligned with Vaughn Bell.
Kyle Sheffield gave a thumbs up, his smile wicked: "Impressive, as expected from you."

Starkwood Group Ltd., founded on March 27, 1995, is a diversified industrial group spanning military industry, scientific research, finance, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and other businesses.
The column for legal representative listed Douglas Bell.
The surname Bell, should be someone from Jack Yates’ uncle’s side, perhaps one of his uncles.
Just as she continued to scroll down intending to look more closely, Jack Yates returned.
Renee hurriedly exited the page and put down the phone.
Jack Yates saw her flustered state, walked to her side, and glanced at her phone.
"What are you looking at?"
Renee laughed and said, "Nothing, just some celebrity gossip news."
Jack Yates casually asked: "What celebrity gossip?"
Renee recalled the gossip she heard from Joyce Pierce earlier and shared it: "A popular fantasy drama recently, I heard the actor playing the male lead is gay."
Jack Yates scoffed: "He is gay."
Renee was shocked: "Ah? Really? How do you know?"
Jack Yates: "He was with Wallace Yates, played with until he had a prolapse, taken to the hospital at night and caught by entertainment reporters. Wallace Yates spent half a million to settle it."
Renee: "..."
Snapping out of her shock, Renee asked: "You mean Wallace Yates, the famous director in the entertainment industry?"
Jack Yates raised an eyebrow: "Who else if not him?"
Renee pondered in her heart; Wallace Yates, surname Yates, and Jack Yates knew so much about his private affairs, could he be a relative of Jack Yates?
"Is Wallace Yates your family?"
Jack Yates took off his tie and tossed it onto the sofa, his tone flat: "He’s Caleb Yates’ second uncle."
Renee: "...so isn’t he your second brother?"
Jack Yates hummed a response, then shifted the topic: "I’ve been dismissed from the company."
Renee: "..."
Jack Yates: "The family is pressuring me to break up with you, I refused, so the shareholders’ meeting dismissed my position."
Renee: "..."
Jack Yates looked at the little girl, startled and dumbfounded, and smiled with good humor: "Renee, I don’t have a job now. I can’t provide you with a wealthy life anymore. Do you still want to stay with me?" 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Renee hurriedly wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her face against his shoulder, softly saying: "If that’s really the case, then that would be perfect."
"Hmm?" Jack Yates patted her head, "Hoping for my downfall?"
Renee shook her head: "No, I’m not hoping for your downfall, I just want to be able to love you without any reservations."
When Jack Yates is just Jack Yates, she doesn’t have to have any reservations, she can love if she wants to.
However, the third young master of The Yates Family of Northcity, she dared not love.
Jack Yates’ heart suddenly quivered, followed by a fine, pervasive itch, both itchy and warm.
His Adam’s apple rolled anxiously, Jack Yates’ large hand stroked her head, kissed her cheek, then kissed her lips, the kiss lingering and tender.
