My Kitsune System-Chapter 31: Second heaven
"Good job," he heard someone say from behind him.
The person clapped as he approached.
A smile on his face....
"Now, why don’t you try that on a real opponent?"
Dan turned to look at Ryan as he spoke. His body couldn’t contain its excitement.
Dan wouldn’t mind giving a go at Ryan to see how strong he had grown, but then underneath all that excitement, he knew the truth. He knew if Ryan decided to go all out with him... He was no different from a corpse.
"Nahh, I’m good," Dan said with a smile.
"Come on... Just a little spar. I promise to hold back."
"Ryan, no matter the handicap put in place, you would still win, so there’s no need."
Dan moved as he went to take up his shirt. As he held it up, he turned to face Ryan.
"I’m sure you were the one that took me home?"
"Guilty as charged," Ryan laughed.
"I thought as much. I need to find out something, though."
"And what might that be?"
"I am meant to be dead, but I am not as you can see"
"Okay, I can see that. So?"
"I need to grow stronger as soon as possible..."
"What about the training we have been doing?"
"I appreciate that, but I don’t think I have the time to grow gradually when I have enemies lurking around the corner. I need to get as strong as possible and as fast as possible."
"This is the only method I do know of, Dan." Ryan said as he
"Remember the conversation we had about drawing essence?"
"Yes, what about it?" Ryan said as his eyes squinted.
"What if I hunted down demons, though?"
"You mean you go around and be a kind of vigilante?"
"Yes. I mean, that way I get to kill two birds with one stone. I rid the world of them and also get stronger in the process."
"You know most of these demons are thousands of years old, right?" Ryan said as he went to sit down.
Dan came to his side and sat down beside him.
"It doesn’t matter as long as I rid the world of them." Ryan turned to look at him.
"What about school? Don’t even answer that. What about sports and Coach?"
"When I’m dead, I doubt I can do any of the two, right? So it’s better to be stronger"
"Okay, so what do you want me to do?"
"I know you know have a way that I get to meet a lot of demons."
Ryan stared at Dan with his eyes wide open.
"Are you sure? If you leave the human realm. The blessings of the gods won’t protect you anymore. So, are you sure about that?"
"I just need you to do something for me. I need you to cover for me as long as you can."
"I don’t know for how long I can because... You may go and never return; apart from that, time in the second heaven is different from here."
"It doesn’t matter... I just need your help getting into second heaven."
With those words, a decision was made.
****Second heaven....
The sky is colored orange, the sun seemed significantly bigger. There isn’t much vegetation, but the landscape is made of rocks and dunes. There seemed to be no form of life.
From the horizon, a being seemed to be walking. The steps feel forced, as if at any minute, the being would fall. The being was covered in clothes that looked like robes. The being’s face was covered, but the being’s eyes were left opened.
They had a subtle glow to them.
The being finally sat down alone. The being searched through his pouch, and from within it, he brought out a mini sack, which he placed on his mouth.
He drank from it greedily, not wanting to spare any, but his efforts were futile as some still dripped down his lips and fell to the ground.
As it did, immediately, the scorching heat leaked it up.
Having drunk the water, the being still sitting took up a stick and started writing on the ground.
3 weeks the being wrote in human writing. The being then closed its eyes once more.
"How much longer do I have to be here?"
As he said the words, his ears picked up a sound. It seemed to have been caused by a broken twig.
Not even sparing what had caused the noise a glance, the being spoke.
"Go away. I don’t have time for something as scrawny as you."
Not heeding his warning, the being kept on getting closer. As it kept on getting closer, it began making cluttering noises.
The shrouded being turned to look at the other being that was approaching it. The being that was coming was quite short. It had pointed ears, and it was emitting a kind of blue aura. It held two daggers, and its clothes looked quite rough.
As the short being got closer, the noise kept on getting louder.
"Oh, for Christ’s sake," the shrouded being spoke as it shut its eyes.
But the short being didn’t heed its warning and kept on getting closer and making cluttering noises.
In a flash, the being’s eyes glowed amber gold. From its hands, a sword began to be formed from the shadows. The shrouded being’s aura immediately exploded, but only for a split second, and then it was gone.
The shrouded being casually got up and started walking towards the short being. As he approached the short being, it couldn’t move but was held in place.
The short being seemed to be sweating, his eyes shocked as he stared at the being before him. Though the being with the sword made of shadows was within its attacking range, the short being dared not move.
The short being pleaded for mercy.
"I had already warned you, didn’t I?"
With those words, the being slashed its sword forward. The short being was cut cleanly into two.
"Thank you, soul reaper," the being said as he continued walking away. As he did, a fox mask could be seen dangling beside him.
