Another notification then popped up on his screen

New affinity unlocked....

What might it be? Dan wondered.

Dan then clicked onto his affinities and there it was....

Not that he had expected anything different, but come on...

Shadow?

There it was on the screen.

Affinities

Shadow(bound): As long as the host is the master and owner of the soul reaper, the host will be able to control the shadows.

So the affinity is not completely mine then

Dan pulled up the weapon to look at it. It was a Katana. The Katana’s blade was dark in color. It was so dark that its blade glistened. On it were written characters that Dan didn’t understand. At the handle, it had touches of red that were quite vibrant.

Dan placed his hands on the blade, admiring the craftsmanship put into it.

Eerie whispers began to reach his ears. Dan turned round the room to check who was with him. His spirit sight activated so he could see if it was a divine entity. But there was no one in the room with him.

"At least I got a nice haul."

Dan then willed the blade away. Pulling up his stat again, he went through it. He needed to know how he survived and how he did. He had already given up after he had been struck by the blade and his life essence was being drained.

The information he was searching for now stared at him.

Life essence:20%

Dan’s facial expression was plain. He said nothing but kept staring at the holographic screen.

But I should be dead, though so how?

This question bugged him as he thought of how he was able to survive.

"Ryan had given me three options but then I can’t remember doing any them. So then, how did I survive?"

Dan then began to hear simple whispers within his heart. It told him of how he was able to survive.

"No, that is not possible. I would never do that," Dan said as he looked down at his hands.

He had sworn to himself not to draw out of the life of others. He would rather die than do that, but then here he was, living and breathing off the life essence of another.

Dan summoned Soul Reaper once again.

"So you’re the reason I am living?" Dan said, his face filled with spite. No matter how hard Dan hated the truth, he knew that he didn’t want to die. He knew he still wanted to live and enjoy life to the fullest.

"But then, was it worth it?" he asked himself.

He knew Soul reaper siphoned the life force of the demon. And used it to revive him. If not he would have been a dead man by now.

His chest boiled with fury, but he couldn’t blame the blade; it just wanted to save its new owner.

Though Soul Reaper was able to save him. He wasn’t still too far from the grave. Having a life force of about 20% wasn’t much of being alive either.

Dan then recalled something the demon had said before it died.

"It’s just as he said," Dan recalled. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Just as who said? It seems people have already begun to make moves against me. But then, who is it? The Goddess? She’s never really had my interest, sending me up against a demon. But then the demon said he. Or is it Ryan? I have never really known anything much about him either way. Never talks about himself. And apart from the goddess, Yuki, and Ryan, no one else knew where I was going to, and he knew the plans. Or is there a third party in play?. Dan thought as he lay back down on the bed.

I’m still a pawn in their hands, I guess. I need to find a way to get stronger and faster.

Dan picked up his phone to check if he had any text or calls, but as usual. The world didn’t even know he had almost died a night ago.

He checked the time and he saw it was almost noon. He had decided that he wouldn’t go to school today.

He sent a text to Ryan.

Dan> I’ll be coming over to your place.

He was not done texting when Ryan came online. Once Ryan saw his message, he immediately replied back.

Ryan> Meet you there in 50.

Dan went over to Ryan’s place not too long after that. Upon reaching the house, Dan was in shock as usual.

Ryan lived here alone, and he had things that only a well-established person should have.

He never overspent, not that he didn’t have the money too but because he always had everything. The house had people who were employed to maintain it.

When asked how he got the money and resources he always just laughed. And anytime Dan brought up the topic about his parents, Ryan always had a mood swing then but then tactically finds a way to evade the question.

Once again today Dan was in the training room. He had wanted to come to test his new strength out and see how far he had grown.

He took off his shirt and began striking the dummies. His hands tore through the air and were so fast that they could not be seen. And only the after mirages could be seen.

Seems I have gotten a while ton faster

A smile grew on his face.

Let’s see what those sanctified claws can do.

As he activated them, a subtle glow began to grow within his claw’s. Taking his hand back Dan struck the training dummy.

With a whoosh his hands passed as if nothing had happened.

Dan’s eyes began to widen. He looked at his claws and then back at the dummy. It was as if nothing had actually happened.

Dan stretched to touch the dummy and immediately his fingers made contact, the dummy splitted apart.

"Good job" he heard someone say from behind him.

The person clapped as he approached.

A smile on his face....

"Now why don’t you try that on a real opponent"
