Host evolution is beginning...

Dan could feel a burning sensation spread through his body. As the burning sensation spread around his body, so did his bones. They kind of broke and then got back together.

This process repeated over time, and each time, the bones were harder to break.

Dan wanted to scream, but he couldn’t as he just felt trapped within his body.

At this point, the pain had all gone, and Dan had lost feeling of his body. It now all felt numb. Not only that, but his heartbeat began to slow down. He was getting short of breathe.

As the numbers increased, Dan started to feel his fingers and toes. He began to feel a kind of warmth go through them. He could feel the air caress his cheeks. His lungs finally flowed with air.

As the feelings returned, he could feel his body being rocked, every now and then. He tried opening his eyes, but he was too weak.

After a while, his body stopped moving.

He heard two people having a conversation, but he couldn’t pick out the voices.

Again, his body had started moving.

Where are they taking me to?

He heard a door open, and then he was pulled inside. His body was now dropped on a soft mattress.

With the feeling of comfort embracing him, Dan felt his consciousness slipping away. He tried his best to hold on, but his attempts were futile.

After he had stayed for hours like that, a blinding light penetrated his eyelids. The bright sensation made him feel very uncomfortable.

Dan rolled from side to side, but he could never find the perfect spot because of the light.

He got up, turning round the room to check what was causing him to almost go blind.

There it was, the window. The literal cause of his present nightmare.

Standing on his feet, Dan felt lighter, felt like he had no density, nor did the law of gravity apply to him?

Not literally, but his body felt too light. And that gave him a cause to worry.

I can’t remember ever feeling this light before

He decided to walk up to the mirror in his room.

As he did, the image within the mirror looked quite foreign to him. From the hair to the well-defined facial features, Dan looked quite different.

His biceps and triceps looked well-defined. His abs looked compacted together. Not only that, but he had also grown a bit taller.

His hair now had a few strands that had turned completely white. As he looked at himself, he found an enormous amount of energy coursing through his body.

He felt a bit confined within this new body, and he needed to let loose. Dan decided to let loose. Slowly, his body began to let loose his aura and then -

Boom!!!

A heavy aura descended upon the room. All of Dan’s hair started to turn white. With the hair close to the roots retaining a bit of its dark color. His eyes began to shine amber gold, and they narrowed to look like that of a fox.

His breathing became heavier; with every heavy breath he took, it was like the air in the room resonated with his breath.

In a way, Dan felt like he could do anything; he felt like- he was a god. A demi one, though.

Behind him, Dan could see two enormous swaying tails. Dan just stared as he watched them move from side to side.

Two down, seven more to go

Dan stopped releasing his aura before he brought the whole apartment down. He forgot about the blinding light and just went to sit at the edge of his bed.

He immediately opened up his system to check all the rewards he had gotten.

"Expected as much," he murmured to himself. He then decided to open his attributes.

A smile grew on his face as he saw the screen.

"I think I also saw some new skills. Let’s see what I got."

Skills

Sanctified Claw - An upgraded version of Ninefold Claw. Now, it deals damage that lingers against evil beings and suppresses curses.

Tenacity of the Blessed - Gains a passive boost to endurance and resistance to mind-affecting abilities.

Divine Stride - Short bursts of extreme speed, leaving afterimages.

All these aren’t what I had in mind, though I was expecting something different.

Dan said in his mind as he recalled his fight with Ryan and the words he had chanted. With those words alone, he turned the tide of their fight.

Dan placed his hand on his jaw as he flexed it.

"At least it’s still intact," he said, remembering the powerful blows the jaw had received from Ryan.

Another section of the screen caught his attention.

Weapons

I have never seen that before, though. I never knew I had such a section.

Dan opened the section to see what it had. There was only one weapon, so Dan scrolled to it and clicked on it.

The weapon’s name and description came up.

Soul reaper: a weapon forged in the depths of the underworld. It can be used as a blade for combat.

Abilities: Can siphon the life essence of those it has struck or killed...

This must be the weapon the demon held and fought with.

Dan then willed the weapon into existence.

Slowly, a dark silhouette began forming on his hands. From a handle, it grew into a long Katana that rested lightly on his palm.

As it was fully formed, he noticed the shadows within the room reacting to it. As if answering its call, they began to move slowly towards Dan.

Another notification then popped up on his screen

New affinity unlocked....

What might it be? Dan wondered.

Dan then clicked onto his affinities and there it was....
