Chapter 72: Chapter 24: Interrogation

[Senior Brother, how do you have property here?] Gu Qingqing asked in surprise as she looked at Yue Zhao.

"This isn’t my property; it’s my master’s," Yue Zhao explained, pulling out a map from his Qiankun Ring. "Master traveled across the continent and stopped at many places to experience the local culture. Renting is always a bit inconvenient, so he simply bought properties in many locations. Before descending the mountain, he handed me the keys and the locations."

Gu Qingqing knew her master’s character, so she wasn’t too surprised. Yun Ran and Zhuo Tingqiu, on the other hand, showed looks of admiration, knowing somewhat how powerful Gu Qingqing’s sect was.

Hua Shiyu was more shocked, feeling like his understanding of Gu Qingqing and her friends kept getting refreshed.

Following Yue Zhao, they made several turns within Bi Qiu City and arrived in front of a house.

Looking at the large house before them, Yun Ran and the others blinked and looked at Yue Zhao and the others with eyes full of admiration.

"Brother Yue, does your sect still accept disciples? How about me?" Zhuo Tingqiu stood in front of Yue Zhao, asking expectantly.

"Master already said Qingqing is his closed-door disciple." Yue Zhao shook his head, smiling.

"Ah, I’m so envious of Qingqing for being able to join your sect!" Zhuo Tingqiu looked at Gu Qingqing with eyes full of envy.

Yun Ran nodded in agreement beside him. The two exchanged a glance, both feeling a bit regretful.

Gu Qingqing pressed her lips together, deeply agreeing with Zhuo Tingqiu. Being able to take Wen Guiyun as her master was the luckiest thing for her!

For Yun Ran and Zhuo Tingqiu’s sentiments, Rong Ye and the others exchanged a glance and shook their heads. Yue Zhao went forward to open the main door. Before everyone went in, he disabled the array in the courtyard, then turned to call Gu Qingqing and the others inside.

The inside of the house was large. Because of the array, it wasn’t very dirty. Just a simple clean-up would make it livable. Gu Qingqing and Yun Ran stayed in one courtyard, Si Lin and Yue Zhao in another, Nan Hua and Mu Chen in another, Rong Ye and Zhuo Tingqiu in another, Hua Shiyu and his guards in another.

Even though there were no servants, the puppets refined by Si Lin were very convenient to use.

After returning to the courtyard and washing up, Gu Qingqing started practicing calligraphy.

In the afternoon, they didn’t go out again but stayed in the courtyard. Dinner was prepared by Mu Chen, featuring dishes Gu Qingqing liked, and she ate happily.

After nightfall, everyone returned to their respective rooms, practicing cultivation, reading books, or going to sleep. The house quickly quieted down.

...

At the third watch of midnight, the entire Bi Qiu City was engulfed in darkness. More than twenty people dressed in black night clothes, faces covered with black cloths, appeared outside the house where Gu Qingqing and the others lived.

"Is this the place?" the leader asked while looking at the house, questioning his subordinate.

"Chief Steward, this is definitely the place," the subordinate nodded, answering respectfully.

"Good, let’s move." The man called the Chief Steward raised his hand, and the more than twenty people behind him began to take action.

They climbed into the courtyard from different places, scattering inside, as if looking for something.

However, after only a few steps, they noticed the surrounding environment changed. Fog suddenly appeared in the courtyard for some unknown reason. What they could see before was now hidden behind a thick mist.

Trying to move to the side, they found themselves walking for ages only to stay in the same spot, unable to see anything clearly. All the people in black were forced to remain stationary, not daring to make any rash moves!

In Nan Hua’s room, Nan Hua, who was originally cultivating, suddenly opened his eyes and looked out the window.

Since they moved in, the one most adept at arrays, Nan Hua, had taken over managing the house’s array. When night fell, Nan Hua activated the Illusion Array within the house.

Si Lin and the others knew the step technique to navigate the Illusion Array, so even walking at night in the courtyard, they wouldn’t get trapped. But once outsiders entered, leaving would be nothing but a dream!

With the array triggered, Nan Hua naturally sensed it. He walked out of his room to a nearby location and saw the people in black spinning in circles.

Due to the array, Nan Hua could see the people in black, but they couldn’t see him.

Nan Hua watched them silently for a while, then, after some thought, darted over and knocked one of the people in black unconscious with a hand chop.

Immediately after, Nan Hua knocked all the people in black unconscious, tied them up, and placed them in the courtyard. He called Mu Chen over and had him administer a sedative to ensure they wouldn’t wake up overnight. After that, Nan Hua and Mu Chen returned to their rooms.

By the next morning, the house’s array automatically retracted. Nan Hua called everyone to the courtyard where he and Mu Chen stayed.

"Senior Brother Nan, who are these people in black? Why are they here?" Seeing so many people in black, Zhuo Tingqiu was quite surprised and couldn’t help but ask.

The others also looked at Nan Hua, curious to hear what was going on.

"I don’t know who they are, but they’re definitely not good people; otherwise, they wouldn’t be sneaking into our house at night in night clothes," Nan Hua said coolly, shaking his fan.

"Why not just ask them?" Rong Ye said, walking up to the people in black, casually pulling down one of their masks, and shaking them, only to find no response.

"Xiao Wu, those people are under the influence of my drug. Without an antidote, they’ll be out for three days." Mu Chen stepped forward, saying as he pulled out a bottle from his sleeve, waving it under the nose of a person in black.

Rong Ye withdrew his hand, standing to the side, waiting for the person in black to wake up.

Soon, that person came to.

Initially, he seemed muddled, unable to remember where he was. But upon seeing Gu Qingqing and the others, his mind cleared immediately, instinctively trying to escape, only to realize his hands and feet were bound, rendering him immobile. His expression turned fearful at once.

"Who are you? Why did you break into our house?" Rong Ye stood in front of him and asked coldly.

"I’ll never tell you. Just kill me!" The man evidently had some courage, leaving the fierce words behind, turning his head aside, avoiding looking at Gu Qingqing and the others.

"Oh, a tough guy. I do love these kinds of people; they’re perfect for testing my elixirs," Mu Chen said, eyes gleaming, clearly thrilled by the man’s determination. Saying this, he took a Jade Bottle from his sleeve, poured out a black elixir, and approached the man. "This is my latest Insect Poison Pill, made from four venomous insects. I haven’t had a chance to test it yet, so this is just perfect."

With that, under the man’s terrified expression, he forced the elixir into the man’s mouth, pinching it open.
