Chapter 478: Jin Cen’s Scheme

Behind the cell bars, Jin Yan threw the wotou to the ground and gnashed her teeth. "This princess won’t eat these things anymore!"

Jin Cen looked at the now dirt-covered wotou, then glanced at his younger sister with a hint of warning in his eyes. "A Yan, don’t make trouble. Pick it up and eat it."

Glaring at her elder brother, Jin Yan snapped back, "Why should this princess eat such filthy things?! On what grounds?!"

Knowing that his younger sister had never suffered this kind of grievance since birth, Jin Cen suppressed his rising anger and bent down to pick up the dirty wotou.

After brushing off the dirt, he slipped it into his sleeve and handed his own clean wotou to Jin Yan.

When he saw her glare at him, Jin Cen took a deep breath and coaxed gently, "A Yan, be good. If you don’t eat now, you will be hungry later."

Ignoring his gentle words, Jin Yan slapped his hand away and shouted, "I won’t eat!"

Thud...

The wotou rolled across the dirty floor and was quickly covered in dirt.

Jin Cen’s jaw tightened as he stared at it. Closing his eyes, he ground his teeth and slowly ordered, "A Yan, pick it up."

Hearing this, Jin Yan’s anger flared. She stood up and screamed, "This princess has had enough of this kind of life! Isn’t General Wu already coming? Why hasn’t he come and destroyed this place?! This princess wants to leave—right now!"

As her shrill cries echoed through the silent corridor, the other prisoners merely sneered.

Unable to endure her noise any longer, one of the Jin Empire’s soldiers imprisoned in another cell shouted angrily, "So noisy! Can’t you stop screaming?! Won’t you let people sleep?!"

The moment Jin Yan heard this, her mind went blank.

Driven by fury, she rushed to the bars and screamed back, "How dare you speak to this princess like that?! This princess will kill you!"

Before she could continue scolding the soldier, Jin Cen strode forward with a dark face and struck the back of her neck with a sharp chop.

Jin Yan’s eyes widened in shock before everything went black. As she collapsed, Jin Cen caught her in time. Carrying her to the corner, he gently laid her down on a pile of hay.

Watching this, one of the Jin Empire’s vice generals asked quietly, "Your Highness, you have heard it. What is your next plan?"

Jin Cen thoughtfully stared at his unconscious younger sister for a moment before asking, "Do you think that rumor is true?"

The vice general shook his head. "This subordinate is not certain."

After a brief silence, Jin Cen turned to Shi Yixi. "What do you think about this, Imperial Teacher Shi?"

Shi Yixi pondered for a long while before replying, "Your Highness, this old subject believes the rumor must be true."

Jin Cen raised his brows slightly at his answer. "Oh? Why do you think so?"

Shi Yixi spread his hands. "Your Highness, look at where we are. Unless Feng Xiyan wants something from us, there is no reason for him to scheme against us. And in our current situation, what can’t he obtain from us?"

"If he truly wanted something, he could simply stop providing food and water. With so many soldiers imprisoned here, someone would surely give in and help him get what he wants."

After listening to his analysis, Jin Cen fell into deep thought. Moments later, he lifted his gaze. "This prince thinks the same."

As soon as his words fell, the generals and vice-generals in the surrounding cells all turned to look at him.

Seeing hope ignite in their eyes, Jin Cen added calmly, "Don’t be too quick to be happy."

"If the rumor is true, then General Wu will face General Zhan Qi. Though General Zhan Qi is young, he is not someone to be trifled with. Amongst Feng Xiyan’s generals, he is the fiercest."

"This prince believes it will be difficult for General Wu to rescue us. Even if everything goes smoothly, it would take at least one year for him to capture the four border passes and reach Xiqiang City."

After a long pause, Jin Cen swept his gaze across everyone present and asked solemnly, "Do you all think we can survive until General Wu reaches Xiqiang City?"

Silence fell as everyone lowered their heads.

While a gloomy atmosphere enveloped the prison cell, Shi Yixi calmly observed Jin Cen. Seeing no despair on his face, he asked, "Your Highness, what is your plan?"

At that, the corner of Jin Cen’s lips slowly curved upward. Under everyone’s expectant gazes, he calmly said, "This prince does have a plan."

Gesturing for them to lean closer, Jin Cen lowered his voice. "First, we need to..."

As they secretly plotted their survival, time slipped by.

That evening, Feng Xiyan finished his work early and returned to the Great General’s mansion.

After dismounting from his warhorse, he saw Xiao Cui waiting outside and asked, "Xiao Cui, why are you standing here? Where is Yun’er?"

Xiao Cui curtsied and replied, "Answering Young Master, Miss Bai has prepared dinner and is waiting for you to dine together in your courtyard."

A faint smile appeared on Feng Xiyan’s face when he heard this. "Yun’er didn’t dine with Brother Hua and the others?"

"Young Master Hua and his friends are already resting," Xiao Cui replied cheerfully.

Noticing her smile, Feng Xiyan thought, ’Why does she look so happy? Did Yun’er reward her with gold again?’

"Alright. Tell Yun’er I’ll join her after I clean up." Feng Xiyan said as he walked toward the main courtyard with Xiao Cui following a few steps behind.

"Yes, Young Master," Xiao Cui replied, then walked toward the dining room.

Arriving at his bathroom, Feng Xiyan ordered the servants to prepare the water, then took a quick bath. Once he made sure he was clean and presentable, he headed to the dining room.

By the time he arrived outside the dining room, the sun had already sunk beyond the western horizon.
