Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 448: Life Drawing Model
It was after nine in the evening and when Shane returned to the room after making a phone call on the balcony, he saw Audrey Sutton was already asleep hugging a pillow.
She still had a noisy variety show playing beside her pillow.
Shane walked over and turned off the overheated phone, wondering what this girl did at school today? She was so tired, usually staying up until midnight, but now she fell asleep before ten.
Not wanting to wake her, Shane took his pajamas and went downstairs to the bathroom for a bath.
Without feeling sleepy, he sat on the sofa, reached for the cigarette box on the coffee table, but suddenly remembered he promised Audrey to quit smoking and drinking, so he silently put it back down.
Looking at the baby cradle in the corner of the living room, his eyes dimmed.
Reflecting on it, a slight sense of regret brewed in his heart.
The loss of that child seemed like an accident, but in reality, it could have been completely avoided.
If only he had unconditionally trusted the girl who always smiled; if only he had replied a little when she sent him countless messages; or if he had gone to the island to find her earlier...
"Meow—" Pea stretched lazily, rubbed against his leg as if acting coy, typically wanting some fish snacks.
If it were Audrey, she couldn’t resist such a furry creature’s coyness and would probably bounce over to open the snack box.
But Shane just slightly frowned, disdainfully nudging Pea away with his foot.
Ever since he knew Pea was a rascal boy, no matter how cute and adorable, he wouldn’t fall for its coyness.
He felt that if he had children, he might prefer girls.
If it were a boy, he thought he wouldn’t have the mind to pamper him; if it were a girl, he might hold her as a treasure every day.
As if imagining having children in the future, his furrowed brows slowly relaxed, and he walked upstairs.
Holding her in his arms, even though he still had no sleepiness, it felt like all the worries disappeared.
Listening to her steady breathing rhythmically sounded by his ear, his heart gradually calmed down.
He thought since she went to bed early last night, she might wake up midway to bother him, but he finished his usual gym routine and she hadn’t woken yet.
Seeing that she had slept for over ten hours, Shane worried she might be sick?
Returning to the bedroom, he reached out to touch her forehead, but her temperature was normal.
Looks like it’s just the cool weather making her sleep in.
Shane sat on the bedside and mischievously pinched her nose.
Asleep, Audrey knitted her brows, shifting her head sideways, waking up due to the suffocating feeling.
Shane released his hand, smiling as he looked at her, saying, "Getting lazier and lazier."
Audrey yawned widely, sleepily looking like she hadn’t fully woken, and only after a dazed moment did she ask him, "What time is it?"
Shane: "You’re going to be late for school."
Audrey chuckled, snuggled his arm, "I’m not going to school today, no classes."
When she rubbed his arm, she somewhat resembled Pea.
But Shane’s attitude was completely different, not as harsh as with Pea, he fell for Audrey’s coyness readily, eyes full of affection, rubbing her hair, "Get up, I’ll take you out for breakfast."
Audrey clung to his arm and as he stood, she followed the motion, sitting up from the bed, "I want noodles."
"Get up first, I’m going for a shower."
In the bathroom, Shane was showering while Audrey stood at the sink brushing her teeth.
The shower had frosted glass providing some cover but still cast shadows indistinctly.
Audrey brushed her teeth while smirking at the man behind the glass, speaking in muffled words, "I want you to be my life model."
Shane didn’t respond immediately.
Shane thought he heard wrong, turned off the faucet, and asked, "Say that again?"
Audrey shamelessly pointed at him again, repeating, "You! Be my life model."
Shane didn’t respond, so Audrey walked towards the shower, asking, "Is that okay?"
"Whish—" The shower door slid open, Shane emerged with a towel around his waist, gave Audrey a teasing look, "To draw me you still need a model? Shouldn’t it already be etched in memory? You should be able to draw me with your eyes closed."
If it were before, she’d be flushed by such teasing remarks, but now she grinned slyly, "Then let me touch again."
Saying that, her palm landed on his wet abdomen, splattering toothpaste foam as she spoke.
Shane slightly frowned, firstly because she got toothpaste foam on him after he cleaned up, secondly because he felt she’s getting naughty.
He grabbed her messing hand, pushing her toward the sink, looking down at her saying, "Seems you don’t want to go out today."
Audrey continued teasing, "I’m not going to class anyway, what about you, didn’t you say you have a morning meeting?"
Shane smiled, knowing she was deliberately provoking him, he lifted her leg to play with her skirt.
Seeing he was serious, Audrey suddenly panicked, hurriedly trying to push him away, holding a toothbrush she’d pulled from her mouth, brushing foam onto his arm as she pushed.
Audrey quickly stood straight, pressed her skirt, picked up a cup of water beside her to rinse her mouth, "Are you crazy? Don’t you need to earn milk money?"
Shane: "Missing this morning won’t matter, you said you wanted a good touch, I’m giving you the chance."
Audrey glared at him, grabbed a towel to wipe her mouth roughly, then turned and walked out of the bathroom.
Shane grabbed her arm, looking at the toothpaste foam on it, said, "Wipe it off for me."
Audrey glanced at it, knowing it was her doing, shrugged and shook his hand off, walking quickly while saying, "Wipe it yourself!"
Shane muttered under his breath, "Grown some courage."
...
After having breakfast at the noodle shop near Audrey’s school, she mentioned going shopping with Phoebe King.
Time was late, making Shane inevitable for his morning meeting.
Nonetheless, Audrey didn’t want everyone to wait too long, and declined Shane’s offer to take her to meet Phoebe.
Originally, Audrey intended to just take a taxi and meet up with Phoebe but Shane immediately called Phoebe to pick Audrey up.
Audrey felt Shane overdid it a little bit with his worry, but knew it was for her own good.
Being alert and cautious was always wise.
