Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 434: It’s Not That He’s Afraid, But That I’m Not
Shane Warner contemplated silently for two seconds before saying, "I will look into it. I’ll have people protect you over the next few days, and aside from school, try not to go anywhere else."
Audrey Sutton obediently nodded, "Should we call the police?"
Shane Warner: "I’ve already informed your second brother, but Phillip Keating hasn’t made any moves yet, and there’s no reason to catch him. I’ll figure it out; you don’t need to worry."
Shane Warner had already learned from Faye Xavier that the club Phillip Keating recently visited was owned by Celestine.
Although he didn’t directly see Phillip Keating negotiating with Lan Irving, his guesses were mostly correct.
Just like Audrey Sutton said, Phillip Keating has no reason to kill her; it’s likely Lan Irving is behind all of this.
She refused to comply, so she couldn’t blame him for no longer considering past feelings.
The glass door was quickly repaired, and although the night was peril-free, Audrey Sutton still felt a bit uneasy.
It was as if she returned to the days when the serial killer hadn’t been caught, feeling a bit anxious and restless.
Audrey Sutton curled up in Shane Warner’s arms, and he thought she was already asleep. As he was closing his book and preparing to turn off the lights, he suddenly heard her mutter, "Honey, when will these days end?"
Shane Warner’s movements stiffened for a moment; he looked down at her and softly asked, "What’s wrong?"
Audrey Sutton held onto his arm, looked up at him, and said, "I just want to live calmly and steadily with you, like ordinary people, peacefully and securely."
Shane Warner sighed, feeling that all this instability seemed to stem from him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
He had always lived by the principle of not offending others unless offended, but now it seemed he needed to handle those chaotic evildoers.
Shane Warner jokingly replied, "You’re a fairy from heaven who wants to live an ordinary life?"
Audrey Sutton laughed and gave him a light scolding glance, "I’m not joking with you; I’ve even thought about moving to a place where nobody knows us, going back to the countryside to farm, and maybe even having a child or two, just living a simple and peaceful life."
Shane Warner gently stroked her hair and said, "Once I’m done with everything these days, we’ll go for a honeymoon, just to relax."
He didn’t want to see her worry about these matters every day.
He couldn’t be soft-hearted anymore towards Clarissa Morgan and Lan Irving.
After coaxing Audrey Sutton to sleep, Shane Warner got out of bed and walked to the window, retrieving his phone to call Faye Xavier: "Did you find him?"
Faye Xavier: "His motorcycle was abandoned in an alley, so he’s likely hiding now without any tracking. But he can’t leave Rivia; I’ve already instructed the brothers to seal off the city, and as soon as he appears, we can catch him immediately."
Shane Warner thought for a moment, then said, "What about Lan Irving?"
The phone fell silent; usually loquacious Faye Xavier was quiet for several seconds before somberly speaking, "Master Shane, let me handle her."
Shane Warner: "I’ve let her go once already. Last time it was you who pleaded for her."
"Understood, Master Shane. I’ll make sure she leaves and ensure she won’t appear in Rivia again."
Shane Warner: "Handle Phillip Keating cleanly. As for Lan Irving, I’ll give you three days. If I’m not satisfied with how you handle it, I’ll do it myself."
Faye Xavier: "Understood."
The night was deep, and the wide road saw only Faye Xavier’s car driving on it.
He drove directly to Lan Irving’s residence and stood downstairs, dialing Lan Irving’s number.
Within five seconds, Lan Irving came out of the building in pajamas and a shawl.
Her slim figure looked worn-out.
She softly asked Faye Xavier, "So late, what brings you here?"
Faye Xavier looked at her gravely, "Are you unaware of the situation?"
Lan Irving laughed lazily, leaning against his car door, "If you suspect me, why bother talking to me? Wanting my confession or seeking my redemption? When did he become so long-winded?"
Faye Xavier: "Had I not pleaded for you last time when you kidnapped Madam, you’d have faced a death sentence."
Lan Irving: "Do you think I’m afraid of dying?"
Faye Xavier frowned, somewhat pained by how Lan Irving had become, "Anna, why did you destroy yourself?"
Lan Irving chuckled, "Destroy myself? Faye Xavier, think carefully about how much effort we put in when working with him, all the suffering we endured. But in the end, for a woman, how did he treat me?"
Faye Xavier: "Master Shane’s marriage found him happiness, and we should be happy for him. Why must you dwell on something hopeless? Besides, I warned you not to have any ill thoughts towards him."
Lan Irving smiled bitterly, "I did have feelings for him, but I’ve always kept it hidden, never hoping for anything from him, always striving to help him, hoping he wouldn’t suffer, thinking of him in every way possible. You believe you’re his invaluable assistant, but to him, we’re just disposable pawns. He’s no longer the Shane Warner he once was, so why should I remain the same Lan Irving?"
Faye Xavier sighed, realizing he couldn’t persuade Lan Irving to change her twisted thoughts and not having time to do so, he simply said, "Master Shane’s investigation has led to you; he knows all about your dealings with Phillip Keating. He’s given me three days, offering you a way out. Buy a ticket tomorrow to fly to Germany, and go find Old Man Dawson. They will assist you, so you can build a new future there. Don’t return to Rivia."
Lan Irving listened to Faye Xavier’s arrangement, her eyes slightly distant, smiling fearlessly, "If I don’t leave within three days? What will he do? Kill me?"
Faye Xavier: "You know Master Shane’s temperament. You betrayed Starfield for Celestine, yet he didn’t trouble you, which was his mercy. You know how important Madam is to Master Shane, yet you target her — you’re seeking death."
Lan Irving: "It doesn’t matter anymore; I can’t justify myself. I won’t leave, nor will I run. If I can die by his hand, it would fulfill my final wish."
Faye Xavier looked at her distressingly, "You’re mad. Do you truly believe Master Shane won’t dare do anything to you?"
Lan Irving: "It’s not that he won’t dare; it’s that I’m not afraid."
Faye Xavier: "I didn’t rescue you back then just to watch you leave now. Be sensible, go to Germany willingly, I’ll book the ticket for you. Once these days are over, I’ll come find you, and Old Man Dawson will take care of you."
Lan Irving smiled, stood upright, took two steps towards the building, then stopped to look back at Faye Xavier and said, "Thank you, but it’s no longer necessary. My affairs have nothing to do with you."
