Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 419: Just One Son and One Daughter Is Enough
Shane didn’t respond to Clarissa’s words but instead looked up at Audrey and said, "Hungry, you haven’t had dinner either, right?"
Audrey: "I had a bread roll on the plane. What kind of porridge do you want? I’ll order takeout for you."
Shane: "Anything. Porridge doesn’t have much variety. The only difference is whether it’s made by someone else or by you."
Audrey laughed softly, giving him a look, "Then I’ll just go buy a pot to make it myself."
Clarissa said, "I’m not sure if the porridge bought outside is sanitary. How about I go home and make it? I have a friend who lives nearby, not too far away."
There was no way Audrey would let Clarissa cater to Shane. Without waiting for Shane to respond, she said, "Thank you, Sister Morgan, for your kind offer, but there’s no need to trouble you. Our Shane isn’t that picky. It won’t hurt to eat something not so clean. Right, honey?" She looked down at Shane and asked.
Shane didn’t dare say anything, only nodded.
Audrey: "It’s getting late, and it’s not safe for a girl to be outside as it gets dark. Brother Xavier, could you please take Sister Morgan back?"
Audrey’s intent to send her away was clear, and Clarissa knew it. Especially now, Shane was listening to Audrey about everything, so she had no way to compete with Audrey in front of him. Smiling, she said, "No need to trouble you. My assistant drove me here. I just came by to check on Shane, and since Audrey is here looking after him, I’m relieved. So I’ll be leaving now to let Shane rest."
Audrey: "Brother Xavier, please see off my Sister Morgan."
Faye nodded and stood by the door, gesturing to Clarissa to go ahead.
Clarissa was extremely annoyed internally but had to hold it in, turning to leave with a smile.
After Faye closed the door, Audrey dropped the fake smile from her face, pulled up a chair to sit next to Shane’s hospital bed, and started scrolling through her phone to order takeout, muttering, "Luckily, I came here, otherwise she might have just stayed the night."
Shane, lying in his hospital bed, glanced at her, "You think I wouldn’t have the heart to see her go?"
Audrey knew he definitely would but teased, "Who knows?"
Shane reached out and pinched her thigh, making Audrey yelp softly in pain. She quickly rubbed the spot where he’d pinched her, then moved to evade him, glaring at him, "I found a porridge shop with lots of options. See what you want."
She handed him the phone, but Shane didn’t even glance at it, simply saying, "Whatever you get, I’ll eat."
Audrey looked at the porridge options feeling they were bland. She lost her appetite just by looking at them. As she scrolled, talking to herself, she said, "Should I have porridge with you? Otherwise, if I eat something else, you might get jealous."
Shane didn’t reply, moving slightly, probably tugging at his surgery wound, frowning a bit without making any sound.
Audrey didn’t notice, and for the sake of sharing "joys and sorrows" with him, resisted the temptation of ordering "spicy pot" and "spicy hotpot", choosing two bowls of porridge and a serving of fried dumplings instead.
A couple of minutes later, she couldn’t resist and ordered milk tea and some snacks from another store, feeling satisfied only then as she put down her phone and asked, "What did it feel like when you got sick? Was it just stomach pain? Bear also had appendix surgery before, but she only went to the hospital after her stomach hurt for more than a week."
Shane: "Hers was chronic."
Audrey chuckled, "Brother Xavier said you almost fainted when getting into the ambulance. It’s so funny to think of you, usually such a tough guy, almost fainting from a stomach ache..."
As she spoke, thinking of the scene, she covered her mouth and giggled.
Shane rolled his eyes at her, "Try it, and you’ll know."
Then he changed his mind, speaking in a hoarse voice, "Actually, no. I couldn’t bear it; it’d be worse for you."
Audrey gently covered his hand still connected to the IV, as if to warm it with her warm palm, smiling, "I knew you wouldn’t let me. Just think of it as experiencing period pain."
Shane: "It’s much worse than that."
Audrey: "How do you know it’s worse without having periods yourself?"
Shane looked at her with displeasure, as if thinking of something else. He clasped her small hand in his palm and said, "They say childbirth hurts more." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Audrey just smiled, turning to comfort him, "My mom said the first child’s birth hurts, but it gets easier with each one after."
Shane: "So how many do you plan to have for me?"
Audrey’s eyes sparkled with dreams, "I’d like to have one boy and one girl."
After she said that, she suddenly froze as if realizing something, her expression turning serious, "I don’t think I’ve had my period this month yet, could it be..."
Shane was also momentarily stunned, then immediately said, "Have Faye take you for a checkup then."
Audrey seemed impatient, standing up, "I’ll ask the doctor."
She said this and couldn’t wait any longer, getting up to run out of the ward.
Instinctively, Shane wanted to get up, but any movement tugged at the wound, so he promptly lay down again, only casting a concerned look at Audrey’s back, saying, "Walk carefully, don’t run."
As soon as Audrey went out, Faye came in, puzzled, watching Audrey’s running figure disappear, and asked Shane in confusion, "What’s my sister-in-law running for?"
Shane: "Go after her, keep an eye on her."
Faye hesitated, not knowing what had happened, but following Shane’s orders, he immediately followed Audrey’s steps.
A few minutes later, Audrey returned, and Shane eagerly asked her, "How was it?"
Audrey leisurely sat back on the chair, exhaled, and said, "I asked, and they said irregular periods after a miscarriage are normal, and an older doctor also checked my pulse and said I’m not pregnant."
Shane was still worried, "Is checking the pulse reliable? Better to get checked tomorrow morning since we’re at the hospital anyway."
Audrey nodded, not daring to be careless herself. A check-up would be reassuring.
In the evening, Shane originally asked Faye to take Audrey back to the hotel to rest, but Audrey insisted on staying at the hospital to keep him company.
At night, Shane tried not to disturb Audrey, calling the duty nurse only when necessary and taking a painkiller once.
Then he secretly got out of bed to use the bathroom. The doctor had suggested using a bedpan post-surgery, but to maintain his image as dashing and tall in Audrey’s eyes, he obviously opted not to.
After taking the painkiller and getting out of bed, it didn’t hurt too much, and he was always careful not to strain the wound.
She was sleeping deeply, not waking up even after all he did.
