Chapter 418: Chapter 418: I’m His Wife

Audrey Sutton could tell from Faye Xavier’s tone that the matter was quite serious.

Faye said that an assistant followed the ambulance to the hospital, but he was still in the meeting room and wasn’t exactly sure what was going on, only mentioning that Shane Warner looked very unwell at the time.

Audrey was extremely worried and naturally couldn’t concentrate on watching the movie anymore. She returned to the cinema, picked up her bag from beside her seat, briefly explained to some friends, and left the cinema with her bag.

While walking out of the cinema, she pulled out her phone to check for flights. The earliest flight was after four in the afternoon.

Audrey bought the ticket, took a taxi home to pack two sets of changeable clothes, grabbed a small backpack, then had the driver take her to the Suttons where she dropped off General and Pea before heading directly to the airport.

After rushing through these tasks, she went to the airport to swiftly handle the boarding procedures.

While waiting in the departure lounge, Faye called: "Sister-in-law, it’s nothing serious. I’m at the hospital now, the doctor said it’s acute appendicitis. Master Shane is still in the operating room. It’s a minor surgery, not a big deal."

Audrey breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I’m already at the airport. Minor surgery is still surgery, I should go see him."

"That’s fine too. Call me when you get to the airport, and I’ll come to pick you up."

"Alright, I’m about to board. If anything comes up over there, send me a text."

"Sure, take care on your way, sister-in-law."

After hanging up, Audrey finally felt her heart settle down.

Earlier, hearing Faye say something like "Master Shane isn’t doing well" nearly scared her to death; she couldn’t calm down for a while. Now learning it’s acute appendicitis, she thought, he always worried she couldn’t take care of herself when he wasn’t around. Now it seemed, she should be the one worrying about him.

Without her by his side to take care of him, he ended up with acute appendicitis at almost thirty years old. Definitely not making things easy.

The plane landed at around six in the evening.

The weather here was quite pleasant; as she disembarked, she could still see the afterglow of the sunset.

After getting off the plane, Audrey contacted Faye, guessing Shane Warner had already come out of the operating room. He also sent her a message saying he knew she would run around for no reason, and complained that such a trivial matter still warranted a call from Faye.

Audrey, carrying a small backpack with two sets of clothes, skipped collecting any checked luggage and went directly to the parking lot to wait for Faye.

Faye, probably calculating time in advance, had set out early. Audrey didn’t wait for long before Faye said he had arrived at the airport.

The parking lot was huge; Audrey wandered around it for quite a while, talking on the phone with Faye. Eventually, Faye told her to stay put, and he’d come to find her; thus, they finally met successfully.

After a half-hour drive, they reached the hospital directly.

Following Faye towards the ward, Audrey unexpectedly bumped into Clarissa Morgan here, coincidentally witnessing a medical staff member leading her to Shane Warner’s ward.

Faye murmured, "Why is this woman here?"

Audrey frowned and quickened her pace, running over.

Arriving at the ward, she found that there were several medical personnel inside checking up on Shane Warner.

Clarissa stood nearby. When she saw Audrey, she was stunned, then smiled at her saying, "Little Audrey is here too?"

Audrey took a concerned look at Shane Warner; aside from his rather pale face, his eyes were still spirited. The doctor was giving him a check-up, so Audrey did not go over to disturb them, but smiled and replied to Clarissa, "Sister Morgan is quite well-informed."

Clarissa responded, "I was here with students for a competition. A former classmate of mine works at this hospital. She mentioned Master Shane came here, so I came to see him."

Audrey eyed the bouquet in Clarissa’s hand, clearly meant for Shane Warner: "Thanks for your kindness, Sister Morgan. These flowers are for my Shane, right? If so, hand them to me. Sister Morgan might not know, my Shane is allergic to pollen; he wouldn’t dare accept this recklessly."

Clarissa naturally knew Shane Warner wasn’t allergic to pollen but didn’t argue with Audrey, feeling somewhat irritated internally. Yet, she maintained a congenial smile as she handed the bought flowers to Audrey.

Audrey took the flowers and placed them directly on top of a cabinet in the far corner of the room, keeping them away from Shane Warner.

The flowers were beautiful; Audrey really liked them in her heart, but the gift-giver was simply unwelcome.

The doctor finished the examination, removed the stethoscope from his ears, turned to look at Audrey and Clarissa, and asked, "You’re both the patient’s family, right?"

Audrey quickly came forward, eagerly saying, "I am, I am, I’m his wife."

With that, she moved to the bedside; Shane Warner indulgently smiled, raising a hand to hold hers, playfully twirling it.

The doctor then advised, "Although it’s a minor operation, recovering still needs attention. Be mindful of the diet these days to ensure it’s as bland as possible, avoiding spicy, greasy, and high-sugar foods. It’s best to consume liquid diets, drinking nutritional porridge."

Audrey obediently nodded. Shane Warner asked the doctor, "How soon can I be discharged?"

The doctor replied, "Depends on the situation; at least three to five days. Rest is important; avoid smoking and drinking, and if you feel any discomfort, inform us immediately by pressing the call bell by the bed."

Audrey nodded, "Thank you, doctor."

The doctor gave a slight smile, turned and left with his assistants. Shane Warner mumbled, "Three to five days, how am I going to see you off to school?"

Audrey glared at him, "Focus on your own recovery. You’re never easy to manage!"

Shane Warner chuckled, holding her hand, looked up at her, and asked, "Were you waiting for my news here ahead of time? How come you immediately rushed over as soon as something happened to me?"

"As soon as I got Brother Xavier’s call, I bought the plane ticket. Brother Xavier said you weren’t doing well, scared me into thinking something was truly wrong!"

Shane Warner squinted at Faye standing by the side, Faye uneasily chuckled, "Well, at the time, I wasn’t sure of the situation. Watching Master Shane faint and turning that ghastly pale while getting on the ambulance, it was truly terrifying."

Clarissa joined the conversation, moving closer to the bedside, saying, "Shane, you really need to take better care of yourself, watch your health."

Shane Warner looked up at Clarissa, deliberately replying, "Thank you, Mrs. Sterling, for your concern. Appreciate you coming down personally."

He deliberately emphasized "Mrs. Sterling," as though reminding Clarissa to be aware of her identity.

Clarissa also sensed the intentional distance in his words, but feigned ignorance, with a soft smile saying, "Just happened to be here, we’ve all been friends for so many years, it’s natural to care."
